Slow nights so long she's frenching out flavour
She's seventeen but I done went and plum forgot about it.

No tears are gone they're pooling on the table
No tears are gone they're leaving their mark behind

So far so good she's absolutly wasted.
She's hanging up and changing her story around

I just don't know where leading ladies come from
I just don't where they can be found

She's opening up just like she really knows me
I hate her face but enjoy the company

I'll take you home, ot back to Oklahoma
You're not so nice but the sex sells so cheap

Rise and shine all you gold-digging mothers
Are you too good to tango with the poor poor boys

General Comment:does anyone else see the conection'Slow Night,So Long' has to '17'? kingsofleonrock114 said "I read that this song was about how Caleb liked Jared's girlfriend, but Jared's girlfriend that Caleb was a dick. It was in Rip and Burn" and 17 has lyrics such as "brothers frightened when's a baby gonna sleep" and "i could call you baby i could call you dammit". JUST SAYING.......

General Comment:Wow, almost 5 years and not one comment on the bass play. IMO, the bass play takes this song from good to phenomenal. It is usually my go-to when I'm in a max volume mood.

As for the meaning, its about the difference between sex and a relationship. He has no respect for the girls he's hooking up with, and longs for a meaningful partner. "gold diggin mothers" and "hate your face" are examples of the contempt he feels for the snobby girls he's screwing.

General Comment:This song expresses the self-hatred Caleb feels after sleeping with a 17 year old girl, who he has nothing in common with.

They french, so he ignores her age, and has sex with her, but then her imaturity shows, she gets possessive, and her tears "pool on the table," lingering in his memory, leaving their "mark behind." She's talking shit ("changing her story around") as "she's absolutely wasted," and Caleb yearns for a grown-up woman, a "leading lady" he can really relate to ("I just don't where they can be found").

He's so needy that he "sells" his sex to this young girl he "hates" the sight and sound of, even taking her back to oklahoma with him.

His final plea is a shout out for real women to come and get him. He's so desperate for this, he opens the door even to gold-diggers, as long as they're fully grown up adult women who can keep him interested:

"Rise and shine all you gold-digging mothers
Are you too good to tango with the poor poor boys!"

Go for it, ladies, he's all yours! :)

General Comment:ignoring jared's girlfriend, since i like to differentiate between the muse and the subject, this song is about letting a girl fuck you even though you know you shouldn't, for whatever reason. to respond to everyone's comments on the age of consent, you're missing the point: he's saying she's too young for him. plus, age of consent means she's old enough to tell her parents to fuck off and marry you, not that you're protected when daddy finds out, threatens to take away her cell phone and suddenly she's telling the judge she didn't understand what she was doing and wishes she hadn't. i quote: "so far so good, she's absolutely wasted. she's hanging up and changing her story around." first line: if she's drunk, she can't consent. second line: daddy said i'm not allowed to talk to you cause the lawyer told him it would hurt the case.

foo fighter: most of their songs make you think of hookers because their art focuses on the bargains we make for sex. marriage, for example, was originally a tool father's used to advance themselves in status or finance. though sometimes, like this time, it's about some girl fucking the cute singer who's poster is hanging by her bed so she can say she lost her virginity to a rockstar when she was only 17. or a rockstar who is running cool doing something he shouldn't because he shouldn't and there is nothing else to do.

now that i've thought about all this i've come to realize what he truly means by gold digging mothers. kanye's usage never fit in my mind, since she doesn't seem to be asking for anything other than a night's lust. i've decided he's actually talking to her mother, saying, don't sue me just because you can, i don't deserve it as much as i think you do.

General Comment:I actually think this is about a one night stand
"She's opening up just like she really knows me" kinda gives that impression and how he talks about how she's drunk and he's 'forgotten' that she's 17. Convenient ;]. Especially if we're going by American laws about the age of consent.
Absolutely fantastic song as well, as is all of their stuff. Gotta love KOL.
Really looking forward to Only By The Night.

General Comment:i don't think the last part necessarily has anything to do with prostitution, but more just about snobby rich girls that are too good for anyone under them.

General Comment:As long as you're all talking about legal ages, we (Victoria, Australia) only have to be 10 years old so long as theyre both within 2 years, then at 16 its fair game. So the line 'shes 17' doesn't really have the same impact, but of course due to Americanization you can get the idea.
