In your house, your daddy's car
You salt the slugs, keep at bay
Happy when your eyes are closed
In vogue this year I hate your kind
I just can't stop
You salt the slugs, keep at bay
Happy when your eyes are closed
In vogue this year I hate your kind
I just can't stop

Through the lyrics, they point out the faults that they see within Americans, but with the last line, they can't stop pointing out these faults, nor can they stop their hatred.
That's all that the song says, and I believe theres not that many lyrics because I think the artist wants you to draw your own interpretation.
The picture is set: We hate Americans because we think they're spoiled and we can't seem to stop hating and judging them.
Now do you as the listener agree and join in, or point out their blind arrogance? Judging from their other songs, I think Bloc Party would want you to pick the latter...
i think with the title "american kids" he could be talking about kids who comply to the most negative version of the american stereotype the world over.
it's a socio political commentary song, just like "uniform" and "where is home?"
nobody took the lyric "no one can be trusted over the age of fourteen" this seriously.
i just think he hates society and materialism, not just americans.
1.) this is not against Americans in anyway
2.)this song is about the culture we accept and embrace.
Our Children Become spoiled and instead of correcting that behavior we go along being ignorant and we let this get out in may Fomrs of entertainment:
i.e.Television :the hilss ,The real world etc.
i.e.Music Every Genre Has Band that reek stupidity
and instead of staying in america like we hope it gets out and everyone sees our behavior this isn't Just in america I know but we shouldn't judge others before we ourselves are perfect which will never happen so don't.
and i have to say that at first,
this song hurt me deeply,
then i realized, he isn't talking
about all of us, just the ones that
are always representing us, like
on the TV, magazines, and every billboard
around. if you are just to look at the
cover america puts on, like is explained
in this song, yes we look like ungrateful,
spoiled, self centered kids, and i know
plently of kids liek that. but i know
a hell of a lot more who are down to earth,
don't judge people, and greatful for what
they have, so americans, calm yourself,
kele means no harm.
...Hope that they don't hate any Canadians; I am one. lol.
kele is not against americans. he has openly criticised green day for their representation of western teens, how it fueled the anti-americanism among other nations.
this song is targeting a particular kind of western teen. not because they are american, but because they are indifferent. because they close their eyes to what is happening in the world, because they are soaking in the arrogance of our society- which is more and more unrealistic. because they want to crush any opposition to their hedonistic tendencies, even if it means ignoring all reason.
commentors who took this song so personally are missing the point. we would all do well to criticise these kinds of individuals, because they are the ones who are holding humanity back.
just my humble opinion.
We're making everyone hate us, including ourselves.
