i think this song is about he loves this woman but knows somethings wrong between them and yet doesnt want to believe it........so he is asking to be let go before hurting even worse if he sees the truth and that she supposedly loves him but if she did she would know him and what it would do to him


im prolly way off on it but its my interpetation

This song is about a guy who trys to hide his dark side but he can't "escape these things inside". He wants the girl to let him go b/c she is a better person than him. -> "your not something I deserve" He feels that the girl wouldn't love him if she knew everything he keeps secret.

To me, this song is about someone who has kept a part of themself hidden from the person they love.. A part of them that they fear the other person can't/won't accept, and they would rather go without that person in their life than risk that person finding this.. thing out about them. They love the person with all of their being so they feel they have to let them go.

I can actually see alot of different possible interpretations for this song - I agree with all of the above thoughts, but also think it might be a sort of fantasy he's living in -

"In this world there's real and make-believe
This seems real to me

You love me, but you don't know who I am..."

Sort of like saying, you love me even though you haven't met me. Then: "I dream we head to what I hope for
And I turn my back on loving you..." Is saying there is something standing in the way of following his heart.

Of course, it's probably not the original sentiment behind the song, but an interesting way to look at it.

Personally, I think this song is about a relationship where one of them, lets say its the girl, has a secret that she's been hiding from the guy. She feels really guilty about it, and she wants to tell him, but she doesn't think that he will still love her once he finds out. So she keeps the secret, lives a lie, just to keep him with her.

"I'm torn between this life I lead and where I stand "
I see the secret as an addiction of some kind that she's hiding from him because she knows how disappionted he would be. The life she leads is one of addiction, and where she stands is with him. She is torn between the two.

wow okay... i heard a tiny snippet of this song on a commercial for Daily Download (it's a show, for those of you who don't have FUSE, and i am sorry for you if you don't) and i was like "oooh, 3dd has a new song" so i decided to look up the lyrics...

and i completely just got teary eyed. i feel like i'm nuts. alrighty... but what do i think this song is about? someone up there said something about keeping a secret from the one you love and would rather lose that person then have them find out that secret... i like that. i'll go with that.

personally though, this song reminds me of something that just happened to me (although it doesn't really fit the song) involving an 8 yr friendship, falling in love, and one hell of a betrayal. he doesn't seem to realize that i don't ever want to talk to him, and i just wish he would let me go.

good song... very depressing.

I already posted for this song, but I have to rave again. I LOVE THIS SONG! I really can relate to this song b/c I have secrets that hurt my relationships.

Anyway, I was listening to the radio and I found out what this song was written for. Spiderman 2! The song fits really well with the movie. The group decided that the song deserved better than a soundtrack so they put it on their new album. 8 Days til Seventeen Days!! lol

Okay it sounds like he loves someone and she loves him back, but he is a mess inside of his head and he feels that he doesn't deserve her and he feels like shit pretty much, and as well this person don't know the true him, he really thinks the real him is low, lieing, cheating and such, wether thats true or him just saying that out of a low self esteem he tells her that she doesn't know the real him and that he doesn't deserve her but she loves him anyway and wants to be with him.

This song could not have been introduced to me at a better time in my life. I have been going thru a break up with someone that I have dated several times and for whatever we reason we just can't make it work. I am a very open honest person and he is more reserved with his emotions. In all the years, I still feel like he knows me better than I have even known him....While I could be way off...This song is what I would think he might be feeling about me.

This song is great, and so is the cd, so get it. This was originally written for the spiderman 2 soundtrack, as ive heard in an interview, but they liked it too much to give it up. It is about how someone loves him, but she doesn't know his secrets, and he doesn't want her to get hurt.

this song is about a guy and girl and they love each other but he doesn't really know her but he can't let her go cuz in the video it just shows them in their normal lives a school and stuff and they're perfectly fine and then later on it shows her pullin up in a parking lot and he sees her and goes over to talk to her and then she tries to pull away and some guy pushes him away and she goes inside the builiding and it's a strip club and he never knew she worked there so when he went in a saw her it hurt him and later they're back at the school and shes tryin to talk to him and he keeps walkin away from her and wont talk to her and he goes out on a date with some of his friends and some other girls but keeps thinkin of her and walks out and leaves and he sees her threw a window with a baby (im not sure if its like her baby or just a baby she babysits or what)

I was with someone for 8 years and he knew me completely good and bad. He knew me so well he knew how to push my buttons (argue). We married after 6 years together and he left me just a few months later and never really told me why. I never knew him completely. But a couple of months after he left he told me he'd probably love me for the rest of his life, but he didn't make any effort for us to work things out and I was sick of chasing him. I never felt that I knew him. I knew the good things he was capable of doing with his life, but he always told me that wasn't who he was, but now that we've been divorced for 3 years I find out he's doing all the things I told him he'd be good at. I think I knew him, the side of him he showed, but he intentionally kept his emotions and opinions of things to himself and never opened up to me. So, this song really hits home for me. I really feel he had done something he thought I would never forgive, so he just gave up and left me so he wouldn't be caught or found out. I don't know, the song just makes me cry.

this has to be one of my favourite songs. i cant really relate to it in any way..since i've never been in a relationship, and i dont really know what its like to be loved..but this song still makes me cry. I love the last line "you love me but you dont know me"..the music video of this is sad too..well anyways, amazing song, by an amazing song writer..:)

i don't get this song the video confuzes my head. i mean it's about guy and a girl who are in love, but then she like blows him off. so they are both sad then he goes to find her to apologize i guess, but he finds out she has baby, then at the end of the song the baby is in it's crib, and then the baby grabs a picture of the guy and girl together.
then the song goes "you love me but you don't know who i am" is the guy the father and don't know it.

This song is good. When I bought the cd from Walmart, I got a free music download. It is the acoustic version of this song and My World. I like the acoustic version of this song better. I also agree with most of the song meaning comments about this song.

Love this song! I think this is the best 3 Doors Down song I have heard in a very long time. I think it's about a guy who is torn between two different things. One more kiss could be the best thing, one more lie could be the worst. I was in a situation like this and it's hard to explain. There's just something about him that you like but you don't know what. And there's the mystery of what one more kiss would be like. However, everyone on the outside sees him as someone that doesn't deserve the girl, and there's the mystery of how one more lie could ruin it all. And she loves him, but doesn't know the true him. He's torn between what it's like now, and what it could be. He doesn't know if he should stay or leave. That probably made no complete sense to any one you! But I just don't know how to explain it!

To me, this song illustrates the predicament where a guy is never himself around a particular girl and then the girl falls in love with this "alter-ego" of his.. leaving him thinking that she loves him but yet she doesn't really know who he is. He lives "two lives", the one when he's not with her and the one when he is with her. He wants the continue the charade but doesn't want to cause anymore pain than he may have already inflicted.

God, have I been there before.. :-/
