The scene is dead, but I'm still restless
An hour till the last call I guess
I shouldn't even be here much less
Drinking myself into excess
But I'm not going home till I'm done

Well, go on get gone
Go on and get gone
Go on; you can't go home
The night is young
I'm blacking out
But it's been fun

Well, everything's another excuse
To keep you doing what I want to
Look, I would really love to kiss you
But I guess I'm in no condition
I'm not going home with no one

Well, go on, get gone
Go on and get gone
Go on; you can't go home
The night is young
I'm blacking out
But it's been fun

Well, I'm not going home with no one
Not going home with no one
Not going home with no one

Well, go on, get gone
Go on and get gone
Go on; you can't go home
The night is young
I'm blacking out
But it's been fun

We can't go home
The night is young
I'm blacking out
But it's been fun
We can't go home
The night is young
I'm blacking out
But it's been fun
We can't go home
The night is young
I'm blacking out
But it's been fun

Song Meaning:Purely because of the line "Look I would really love to kiss you" makes me think its more about a situation where they were out with friends in the group of which is a crush which they couldn't get. rather than give up and go home, they ended up staying after everyone else had left and simply didnt want to feel like the whole night was wasted on another failed attempt.

Quite sweet in a depressing way.

A very nice song all the same

General Comment:Truely my favorite song by one of my favorite bands. A "perfect song" in my opinion(guitar, vocals, drums, overall sound). To me its kind of about procrastination. He knows he should be doing more important things yet he's out drinking ("i shouldn't even be here much less drinking myself into excess"), which i can relate to big time as a college student, lol. He's using drinking as an escape from all the worries he has in an way some would look upon as unhealthy (especially when you take their other songs into consideration). He doesn't want it to end so he won't have to deal with his problems (especially without getting some action out of it), which i can relate to even more.

General Comment:Maybe this song explains how Jesus felt on the Mount of Olives moments before Judas kissed him and the guards sized and arrested him for the Roman autorithies...

Like, party's have gone out of style, but he is still trying to party and get everyone to attend parties.

General Comment:FIRST: "Well everything's another excuse
To keep from doing what I want to
Look, I would really love to kiss you
But I guess I'm in no condition"

That part just makes me want to go write a crappy romance novel. I don't know why but it really punches me hard enough to break a few ribs and puncture my heart.

    anyway.

this song, i think, is pretty much what you guys said. Basically, out drinking but i don't really think that he's out with friends mostly because of this line:

"An hour or so until last call I guess
I shouldn't even be here much less
    Drinking myself into excess"

it just gives me an image of a person sitting by themselves trying to talk themselves out of another drink. but they decided that since it's almost last call they'll stay a while longer.

and yes, obviously he has had too much to drink, but "i'm not going home with no one," i don't think it means that he doesn't have anyone to go with, i think it means that he doesn't want to go at all. maybe he doesn't have anything else to go to, and since he's obviously met someone who he'd like to kiss but wont because of a list of excuses, he'd rather stay anyway.

    and:

    "You can't go home
    The night is young
    I'm blacking out
    But it's been "

i think that the person he was with is trying to leave, since "you can't go home" is a line, although it could be something he's saying to himself because he thinks it could go somewhere.

General Comment:I think it's about when you go out with your friends. You're simply looking for a good time, and as the night comes to and end you realize you're not ready to go home. Everything is dead around you but you still feel like the night has life to it.

I agree with that part, but I also think it has something to do with drinking in order to have an excuse for something. "Everythings another excuse, to keep from doing what I want to, like I would really love to kiss you, but I guess I'm in no condition." He's using alcohol as a crutch so he doesn't have to face the things that make him vulnerable. Because, since he's under the influence its a good reason to do the things that he shys away from doing.
