i take it "salty leave" is describing how he is crying when she is leaving him. The sound is very desperate and yet beautiful. its a very different song from all the others on the album. deff. one of my faves!

Am i the only one who thinks the chorus is about a teenage girl?
Hourglass body - perfect figure, hasnt lost it to age yet
Problems with drinking milk - as you get older you stop being so picky about your food and stuff, y'know. Or "milk" could be sexual, ie semen or something, but im starting to doubt this song is sexual at all.
Being school tardy/loan you her toothbrush/bartend your party - typical teenage activities, y'know, still at school, having people crash at house, working at a local bar to earn some bucks, whatever.

No idea how it fits to the overall song...perhaps he had a short relationship with some girl, who took part in his old-guy stuff (going to the matinee and drinking wine and stuff, i dunno i'm not old yet lol), but she got bored and left him ("stay for me," etc) for some other guy ( "he's on his own but his own is you" - to be literal about that, it means the new guy is busy having sex with her lol).

when i first heard this song it blew me away. it is so original and the line and climax [lol] where he sings stay for me is jus undiscibable. however with time it beacame just another kings of leon track. however the other week i took some shrooms and this song came on. as you might know shrooms distort time. at the start the instrumental is really quiet so in between the lines caleb sang i couldnt hear anything and time seemed to last forever and the songs beauty and eeriness surfaced again and felt just like it did the first time i heard it. the best way i can desribe it is leaving a familiar place [POF] and heading out into the wild dark wildnerness[silent instrumental] before discovering a mystical beautiful city in the middle of nowhere.

as for the song i think it is about some guy or one of them most probably masterbating over a a really well to do, geeky but really pretty girl[hourglass body]. tardy can mean consciencous but can also mean behind time, drinking milk could mean thet she looks after herself taking herself to seriously in his opinion and the reference to toothbrush is obviously about her non shaved pussy. shaved being sluty.

yeah, I think you guys are reading way too much into this. like cardiaque said, it's about a girl he was dating in la, and what I take from it, is that the song is just a description of how she is so a-typical and magical. all of her quirks. she's late for school, she doesn't like milk, she's really sweet and wholesome (she'll loan you her toothbrush) but then she's not afraid to have fun (she'll bartend your party).

Actually, I think this song's *full* of sexual innuendo.

'Salty leave' sounds like a pun on tears and semen. Milk sounds like the latter as well. 'Being school tardy'? What about not liking to rush the morning after? 'She'll loan you her toothbrush' if you haven't got one of your own... that being typical if it's a one-night stand. And taking generic stereotyping to the max, bartending hardly sounds like something a sweet, innocent girl would do, eh?

the girl's been mentioning some new person around him and he's holding on to the things he loves about her, she's getting more distant and when he finaly gets through he knows that she's with another guy.

I don't think he (i don't think all of their songs are always about them i think alot of the time it's things they've seen and know) feels angry with 'milk' (the girl) he's just aware that something special has slipped by and he doesn't want to erase the past.

I think this song, as mentioned, is simply about an exgirlfriend who cheated on him with someone he knew, a friend or somesuch.
The chorus is about the girl and her different appealing, although decidedly adolescent, qualities. I basically agree with MaxQQQ on this point. HOwever, the "She saw my comb over, her hourglass body" is confusing. What is this comb a euphemism for? Does he literally sweep it over her body? Or is he simply listing things: She saw my comb-over (n.). Her hourgalss body. I presume he doesn't refer to his hair with come-over, he is a little too young to be balding.

The first two verses are reminiscent of their initial happiness, telling jokes, drinking in the afternoon (presumably at the matinee film at the cinema), and possibly being caught by an usher;" the spotlight showed what i chased away" implies the usher's torch highlighted not only their indiscretion, but just how much he valued his relationship with this girl, who he apparently chased away.

He first says "salty leave", possibly showing how he had to leave her i.e. to go on tour. Then "stay for me" as in : stay faithful to him. And lastly, "kill me" after he has discovered her promiscuity.

The final verse is the crux of this. He suspects she is with someone else, someone he knows, but is away, perhaps on tour, and cannot prove it. He calls the man he suspects, who claims to be by himself, but as his repeated calls go unanswered, he becomes certain they are together, but blames himself, convinced he has driven her away.
