seen the futureheads live a couple of weeks ago and they played this second last (manray afterwards, like the album) and everyone sang the UH! oh-oh part and it was something special... very special...

I agree with kaquth taht ppl shoudl listen to the kate bush original which is also great.
I absolutely love this cover when i first heard taht the futureheads had doen it i must admit i was rather sceptical but im more than happy to have been proved wrong

I think it's about being scared of love or commitment when your young and it affecting your adult life, it is fucking fantastic live! i saw them yesterday in gateshead at the orange evolution music festival worth the 8 hour wait!!!! and i met ross millard at DFA 1979 anyway. but they are fucking brilliant live

I think this song is meant to come across as quite camp, almost "taking the piss" but to me it holds alot of meaning. It's obviously about being frightened of falling in love, although everyone knows it's inevitable at some point in life.
It then goes on to talk about love coming after him "oh oh the hounds of love are calling" but then contradicts his fear by saying "I don't know what's good for me" - therefore that if he allows it to happen it can in fact turn out good.
So he decides to try it - "take my shoes off, and I will throw them in the lake, and I will be two steps on the water" although he feels vulnerable that he is going to "sink" as everyone knows it's not possible to walk on water.
All in all a great song!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol dunno bout the song as a whole, but the lines 'take my shoes off, and I will throw them in the lake, and I will be two steps on the water' seem to me to be a direct reference to the tactic of throwing off pursuing tracker dogs by going through water and leaving your shoes behind to stop them having anything to scent u by. Anyway thats probably the literal reference, it'll have other connatations as people have said........great song aswell lol
