I said, her from the city, so her got to be witty
She said, him from the country, so him got to be funky

Mama, I'm a millionaire, but I feel like a bum
Mama, I'm a millionaire, but I feel like the only one
I I I I woke up early this mornin'. I don't think why'all heard me
I woke up early this mornin'. I don't think why'all heard me
I woke up early this mornin', I don't think why'all heard me
I said I woke up early this mornin' but I still ain't see the sun
Uh uh uh oh uh oh (repeat three times)

Papa, I'm a millionaire
But Saks Fifth Ave. don't sell affection
(Saks Fifth Ave. don't sell affection)
Papa, I'm a millionaire
But I ain't moving in the right direction
Somethin' ain't right. I know

I am rich. He is rich. She is rich. We is rich
Oh, I am rich. He is rich and she is rich. We is rich (repeat twice)

Where there is cheese, there are rats
Wherever there are rats, there are cats
Wherever there are cats there are dogs
If you got the dogs, you got bitches
Bitches always out to put their paws on your riches
If you got riches, you got glitches
If you got glitches in your life computer
Turn it off and then reboot her
Now you back on
Can't just put the cap on the old bottle once you pop it
That'll spoil it. Go on. Drink it and enjoy it
Mama, I'm a millionaire

What's a girl to do when she just has diamonds. No time. Just pay
What's a girl to do? Instead of me; it's you. Be true
What's a girl to do in a world of greed when you're in pain?
What's a girl to do when she's lost her long time friends
That's life

General Comment:My analysis of the key lyrics:
"I woke up early this mornin but I still aint seen the sun"- She tried to fix things but things remained the same.
"Saks 5th ave dont sell affection"- She can't buy REAL love from others (maybe from the rich popular ppl) cuz they only like her for her material possessions (money/expensive things). The ones that truely loved Kelis without the money were her long life friends.
"What's a girl to do when she's lost her long time friends that's life"- implies that Kelis lost what matters more than being a Millionaire which were her real life long friends. And there's nothing left for her to do about it and thats how life is =( unfair

    Story of it:
It seems to me that she got caught up so much in being a millionaire, the glamour of it all, and gaining friends that like Kelis for her money-that she may have hurt her true friends in the process. She feels remorse and depressed over her mistakes so she tries to patch things up with her true friends but nothing changed. As a result, she lost the only friends that mattered the most to her. Its sure lonely at the top.

The music video expresses that she reminiscences over the past and how simple it was back then when she was a kid and played with her friends before all of her fame and money problems.

Such a beautiful sad song with that important message the other ppl stated in their comments below. ='(

General Comment:one of my favorite songs. basically talking about someone who's got all the money in the world but it isn't enough, money isn't everything. the "I woke up early this morning but I still ain't seen the sun" is saying that they wants things to change, but it ain't happening. being rich isn't all it's cracked up to be, because there's always gonna be someone who's got less, someone who wants to take what you've got, someone who wants to spoil it. but it's yours so you better enjoy it anyway (can't just put the cap on the old bottle once you pop it that'll spoil it)

    General Comment:This song is AMAZING!
Money is not everything in life.

Saks 5th Ave. is a store located on 5th Avenue in Manhattan of New York City. 5th Ave. is where all the high end designer stores are. Saks 5th Ave. only sells designer clothes, only people who have lots of money shop there.
"Saks 5th Ave. don't sell affection."
-- Yes, she can buy from there, but it does not sell her love. She's needy, she wants to be loved and feel needed.

Andre 3000's rap of if you have this, then you have this clearly means once you have something that is wanted by everyone (money) then you're wanted by everyone for the wrong reasons. You lose yourself in the glamorous life.

    My favorite part is:
"What's a girl to do when she just has dimes no time just play-yay-yay-yay.
    What's a girl to do instead of me it's you'll be true-woo-woo-woo.
What's a girl to do in a world of greed but kneel and pray-yay-yay-yay.
What's a girl to do when she's lost her long time friends that's li-i-i-i-ife"

She's lost, she doesn't know what to do anymore.

Such a sad song. But, I love it.

General Comment:Well 1st its spelt 'saks' lol and saks 5th avenue is a very expensive shop, like Harrods in UK.. and shes saying that although she's rich enough to shop there, the place doesnt sell love.

The cheese/rats, dogs/bitches part describes that theres always someone wanting something if you have money and 'if you got riches u got glitches' sums it up, saying that money is more trouble than its worth then 'if you got glitches in your life computer turn it off...' etc. means that you should forget about the money and refresh, then ur back to reality when its all gone... ofc then the 'cant just put the cap..' part describes how you shouldnt live for those riches, but live for the moment and the fun.

    Its a good song :)

That line had deep meaning for me the first time I heard it when I was in my mates car stoned one night being subjected to all his r&b/rap/gangsta rap. Sad.

I dig this song. It's just saying being rich isn't always what it's cracked up to be.

i think these lines mean that when you've got money, all the people want to be your friends , and eat yoor cheese like rats 'Where there is cheese there are rats'
