Anywho, He could save himself, and he realizes he should but "It's a matter of taste", he knows his ideals are trash, but he doesn't want to do anything about it...

In the context of a rock opera, the whole album makes a lot more sense... I put an overall plot in the Alarum lyrics.
" Now that the thrill of the massacre is over" could be a reference to the rapture.
"I roll back the stone just to see what I'm missing" also has some Biblical meaning, with the ressurection of Jesus and rolling back the stone of his grave.
"Salvation's at hand" could once again refer to the end of the world.
This whole song is really vague and cryptic, so that may be completely wrong.
