Your bones are brittle inside you
Wrapped so soft, your blood is running,
I'll be there
If you're moving slowly we still get there
I'll be there
Such a strong desire
Hunger

Oh you need to hope you keep your head, yeah
The slow hand quickens

What you've done with all those around you
Hopeful always that someone will come and save you
But I'll be there
To watch you sulk, returning seething
I'll be there
Minutes hold onto hours
Gets you twisting

Oh you need to hope you keep your head, yeah
The slow hand quickens

How'd you leave it with the love you lost
You made them crawl to be without you
The slow hand quickens

Yeah sand is empty in the hourglass
I'll be there
To turn it over and over in your head
So you keep the hope you get your day, yeah

The slow hand quickens, oh
You seem too hard to break, too cold
To burn, afraid your chance is gone
Your wires are crossed, your mouth is lost
You fear you left it far too long
The minutes pass, the hours are gone
So hard to find your way alone

The slow hand quickens, yeah
The slow hand quickens
The slow hand quickens

I...
Your slow hand quickens

General Comment:>The song is about a woman (or women in general):

Your bones are brittle inside you
Wrapped so soft, your blood is running,

    >And a man's attraction:

    I'll be there
If you're moving slowly we still get there
    I'll be there
    Such a strong desire

    Hunger

    >And how women abuse this attraction to their own detriment because with time they get old and this power fades:

Oh you need to hope you keep your head, yeah
    The slow hand quickens

What you've done with all those around you

    > And how men who are burned by women like this come to resent them and have no pity on them when time turns the tables:

    But I'll be there
To watch you sulk, returning seething
    I'll be there
    Minutes hold onto hours
    Gets you twisting

    > And how those women continue to do this either completely oblivious or just uncaringly:

How'd you leave it with the love you lost
You made them crawl to be without you

    > But ultimately, time turns the tables. Women's attractiveness fades and they end up alone and time only makes it worse, nothing will them back to their youth:

Yeah sand is empty in the hourglass
    I'll be there
To turn it over and over in your head
So you keep the hope you get your day, yeah

    The slow hand quickens, oh
You seem too hard to break, too cold
To burn, afraid your chance is gone
Your wires are crossed, your mouth is lost
You fear you left it far too long
The minutes pass, the hours are gone
So hard to find your way alone

    > After using and squandering men's desire, the woman loses her power to the ravages of time and ends up bitter and alone.

General Comment:When I first heard this song (some years ago) I thought that he was talking about a vampire.
Today after reading all of the above comments I think that it means what we recognize in our own life.

Regardless, I love the mood that it puts me in.

General Comment:Hate to sound crass, but does anyone else think this could be about, um, masturbation?

General Comment:this song is clearly about addiction, and being soo high all the time. all you need to hope you keep your head?... your drug to get your fix... "the slow hand wuickens"... you need that fix again.
    "Hopeful always that someone
Will come and save you but I'll be there " - the drug dealer and "I'll" is the drug... you'll eventually get your fix. thats what i think, look at the lyrics.

General Comment:this is one of my favorites from the song and i must say from my point of view i see it as the narrator has realized the true face or personality of a person that they were close to or possibly loved ... and they used the narrator and now the narrator is watching the person going to tough times and the narrator is not there for that person to lean or for their help... and the tides a turning giving you the "The slow hand's quicker" where the narrator is starting to get the upper hand over the person that was once using them and they're catching onto it

General Comment:The song is about growing old and living a lonely wasted life. The line "the slow hand quickens" refers to the short hand of a clock. Your time is running out.

General Comment:in the song just before this on the some devil album, up and away, dave sings
    'Little darling, in your eyes
Got me all up and away
    You get me high'
he describes a beautiful whole love. maybe this is a reaction song after the couple from up and away break up
