My cell is ringing
No ID
I need to know who’s calling

My garden’s overgrown
I go out on my belly crawling
I got CCTV, pornography, CNBC
I got the nightly news
To get to know the enemy

All I want is a picture of you
All I want is to get right next to you
All I want is your face in a locket
Picture in my pocket
I take a pill to stop it

I know these fast cars
Will do me no good

I’m going nowhere
Where I am it is a lot of fun
They’re in the desert to dismantle an atomic bomb
I watch them channel hop
Check the stocks
I’m in detox
I want the lot of what you’ve got
If what you’ve got can make this stop

All I want is a picture of you
All I want is to be right next to you
All I want is your picture in a locket
Your face in my pocket
Take a pill to stop it

I know these fast cars
Will do me no good

Don’t you worry about your mind
Don’t you worry about your mind
Don’t you worry about your mind
Don’t you worry about your mind

You should worry about the day
That the pain it goes away
You know I miss mine sometimes

There is no fiction
That will truly fit the situation
I’m documenting every detail
Every conversation
I’m not used to talking to somebody in their body
Look, there’s somebody in a body, somebody in a body

General Comment:I think these lyrics are wrong. I think he says "I watch the shadow box" not "I watch them channel hop"

General Comment:Why does everyone hate this song?! It's incredible. It's shows they can still do something that something that people totally don't expect. It's risky and I think they pulled it off really well. I think totally fits into HTDAAB because they whole album was insanely awesome! Seriously, freaking insane. It's the "Wanderer" of HTDAAB.

General Comment:after listening to the song again, this is totally about the middle-class/uppities of America, or maybe even in other industrialized nations. i feel like he's mocking them, that's pretty f'd up though. maybe he's referencing the 'fast cars' to the get rich quick scheme of things in America that leads to emptiness, or rather as he puts it, "not used to talking to somebody in the body" part.

General Comment:this is better than every other song on atomic bomb
it has a kick-ass spanish riff
it's about western consumers and their 'fast cars'
    cellphones, plactic surgery, etc.
    and the ending is obvious!
"not used to talking to somebody in the body"
they're not used to talking to someone face to face as opposed to over email or texting

this song completely owns xanax & wine by the way

General Comment:I think this songs alright, it makes no sense though, why would he write about somebody who has no life? I dont get it.

General Comment:I just love this song!
but, Yup, i agree that it doesnt fit as part of HTDAAB, maybe it could have been releqased laetr as a single [i think its better than a b-side]

General Comment:Love the song, although I agree that Xanax And Wine is superior lyrically and musically (same verses, better chorus). You gotta give props to U2 trying a different style of music.

I wonder, did Bono change the lyrics to Fast Cars to make it less about drug abuse and more about a fast life style?
