I want to trip inside your head
Spend the day there
To hear the things you haven't said
And see what you might see

I want to hear you when you call
Do you feel anything at all?
I want to see your thoughts take shape
And walk right out

Freedom has a scent
Like the top of a new born baby's head

The songs are in your eyes
I see them when you smile
I've seen enough, I'm not giving up
On a miracle drug

Of science and the human heart
There is no limit
There is no failure here sweetheart
Just when you quit

I am you and you are mine
Love makes nonsense of space
And time, will disappear
Love and logic keep us clear
Reason is on our side, love

The songs are in your eyes
I see them when you smile
I've had enough of romantic love
I'd give it up, yeah, I'd give it up
For a miracle, a miracle drug, a miracle drug

God I need your help tonight

Beneath the noise
Below the din
I hear your voice
It's whispering
In science and in medicine
"I was a stranger
You took me in"

The songs are in your eyes
I see them when you smile
I've had enough of romantic love
I'd give it up, yeah, I'd give it up
For a miracle, miracle drug

Miracle, miracle drug

General Comment:I feel like this song may be about Bono's dad's battle with cancer. Bono is just searching for a "miracle drug" to cure his father and he would give up romantic love to be able to maintain the love he has for him. Just my thoughts

These really keep you "clear". Things like politics and petty disagreements go out the window when you are reasonable, logical and are motivated by love.

My Interpretation:I don't know how much bearing this has on the meaning, but I read an interview with Bono (it may have been in U2 By U2) where he mentioned that while they were on tour for this album, Edge's daughter was diagnosed with leukemia He would look over at The Edge and watch him sing "In science and in medicine/I was a stranger, you took me in" and just be amazed at his strength.

I know so many people with chronic illnesses or with cancer, and this song always makes me think of them.

General Comment:Maybe I'm way off base here, but "I want to trip inside your head" indicates to me a desire for deep intimacy. The drug is love. Not shallow artificial love, but deep intimate love. The kind that is next to impossible to achieve.

General Comment:This song is extraordinarily sincere. It's easy to mold into different societal or relationship issues; it's easy to take to heart no matter what the person's situation.

I believe this song is particularly about writing, creating. Probably songwriting specifically, since the author is such. :-)

General Comment:To me, this song is all about disease. When I hear this song, I think of those lying in their beds, waiting for bed to come inevitably. A lot of people would love to give up all the pleasures in life just so the ones they love can be saved. When Bono says "Of science and the human heart, there is no limit," I think it means that the possibilities in science, and possibilities in medicines nowadays, is endless. But also that what we feel in our hearts will never end; that our love for someone has no limit, and we will do most anything to care for the ones we love. I believe that that one line summarizes the whole song.

General Comment:In May of 2006, I had a son born 3 months premature. Doctors say my wife had a placenta abruption and really don't know what caused it. My son Cole was born just over 2 lbs. He was in the hospital after birth for 86 days. He had a heart condition, couldn't breath on his own, and took more medications than I think I ever will in my life. He has truly been through more in his first year than I have at 33 yrs. old.

The reason I mention this is because this son "Miracle Drug" was one I listened to over and over (and actually quietly sang to him) while he was in the hospital. The lyrics couldn't be more fitting from a father to his son in the type of situation we were in. Usually I have to dig deep into a song to really think about how I can take the lyrics to fit my everyday life. With "Miracle Drug", it was as if the song was written for me to sing to my son. It was exactly what I was feeling and going through. Thank you U2.

General Comment:The Edge sings the verse:
"Beneath the noise, below the din,
I hear your voice, it's whispering:
    In science and in medicine
I was a stranger, you took me in"

while Larry does the backing vocals before "God, I need..." etc. ("Oh yeah, oohhh-oohhh yeah"). Not sure if this is just the live version, but best bit! Larry should do more backing vocal.

Those lines for some reason or another remind me of The Edge.

General Comment:To me... it means... having just found another kind of love. A very different one than other loves that had occured in one's life. It's just so different, it's probably inexplicable in real words, it just feels like... a miracle drug... no words can describe it, but it's the kind of love that just makes one... one... one.... inexplicably up-side-down... or whatever... cannot put it in any specific word...
