Boulevard Of Broken Dreams Lyrics
I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known Don't know where it goes But it's home to me and I walk alone I walk this empty street On the Blvd. of broken dreams Where the city sleeps And I'm the only one and I walk alone I walk alone I walk alone I walk alone I walk a... My shadows the only one that walks beside me My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me Till then I walk alone Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ahhh Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ahhh I'm walking down the line That divides me somewhere in my mind On the border line of the edge And where I walk alone Read between the lines What's fucked up and everythings all right Check my vital signs to know I'm still alive And I walk alone I walk alone I walk alone I walk alone I walk a... My shadows the only one that walks beside me My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me Till then I walk alone Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ahhh Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ahhh I walk this empty street On the Blvd. of broken dreams Where the city sleeps And I'm the only one and I walk a.. My shadows the only one that walks beside me My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me Till then I walk away! |

Jesus’ attempts to accept his new home flow into the Boulevard of Broken Dreams, as does the song Holiday flow into Boulevard of Broken dreams. Blvd of Broken Dreams marks an important part of Jesus’ emotional decline. He is trying to accept that the streets on which he is living are home, but he can’t deny the fact that he’s horribly lonely. We see a bit of Jesus’ personality from Dearly Beloved returning to him during this song. His futile attempts to claim that the streets are his home mark an important emotional decline in his character, and *possibly* even signify a losing of the touch of reality.

''i'm walking down the line that divides me some where in my mind''
probably means that maybe it's all in his head, like he's really his own enemy , or the line or street(whatever you want to call it) is like his life he's setting up in his own head............... if ya get me?

Basically, it explains how JOS is feeling after leaving home. It can be applied to any situation with someone who’s fighting for a cause and thinks that they’re the only one who cares. It all goes back to the idea of not being an “American Idiot” who just follows what everyone else says and doesn’t put in the effort to have their own opinions. It’s a great follow-up to Holiday, where JOS states his opinions blatantly and is perhaps isolated for doing so. It really captures the loneliness that you feel after you’ve broken away from everything that you know and begin to walk on your own path.
On a separate note, what’s the big deal with the eyeliner? First of all, I think it’s pretty hot. Secondly, it’s not because they’re sellouts or trying to get attention. Billie Joe said in an interview that David Bowie was one of his biggest influences, and that he found the whole androgynous thing interesting and appealing. So it’s more of a tribute to Bowie than anything else.
I like GD’s old stuff, of course, but they had to grow up sometime, and I think they’ve done a wonderful job of it.
Props to Leena for her insightful comments.
