General Comment:This song is really deep actually. All these people thinking college is a necessity; people thinking that life is ruined without a college education; parents pressuring kids to go to college to get that 'college education.' I think what Animal Collective is trying to say here, in the most simple way possible (so that the listener can analyze it for him/herself) is that, enjoy life because college honestly isn't that important and don't let that distract you from enjoying your life to the fullest.

My Interpretation:When I hear this song, I think of the drinking that goes with college, and how the partying and social scene all can just make you feel like shit, even though it's supposedly going to make you successful.

Coming from a chick who hated high-school and college, I guess it's a bias interpretation.

General Comment:This song is LITERALLY about the leader vocalist's (Avey Tare) wife, Kria Brekken. She is from Sweden and was in the band "mum," also studying physics at COLLEGE. She came to the U.S. to stay and record with Animal Collective on this album (and various others in the future), but eventually had to go back. for college. So "You don't have to go to college" means "You don't have to leave me." Like the guy above said.

General Comment:i think it's sweet how simple this is. like, all our lives everyone is telling us to go to college, get a job, be something. and so many kids these days are locked into that mindset. then here's a song with the only lyrics "you don't have to go to college." maybe not even necessarily literally college, but moreover what everyone expects of you. be yourself, you don't have to do anything.

My Opinion:I applied to college this year, and by some coincidence, almost every time this song played on shuffle one of my parents was in the room. The song even had me convinced not to apply for a while, but I decided against it.
