Lyrics for Disconnect the Dots as interpreted by errigan

Disconnect the Dots Lyrics
Come disconnect the dots with me, poppet
Come disconnect the dots
Come disconnect the dots with me, poppet
Come disconnect the dots

It's so beautiful
Our lunacy
It's so beautiful

Poppet is a pet name, old English in origin. Back in the day, it was another word for 'puppet'.
This song is sweet though. It makes me want to laugh and dance and look at the stars.

Does anyone have an idea what could be meant by 'disconnect the dots', I keep thinking it's a metaphor for something big but I can't figure it out. I love this song however, I agree with all the comments, it's so sweet ^^

This song makes me really happy. I love the "poppet" part. Haha. :] It's such a sweet and innocent-sounding song. What it means? I have no clue. Maybe it's about little kids and their lunacy, how they put it, is just their innocence and it's beautiful and I derno'. Just trying to make some kind of sense out of it.

I absolutely love this song, it is so catchy. It doesn't really sound very similar to much of Of Montreal's other songs, but I think even with the repetitive and addictive beat and lyrics there is a deeper yet whimsically simple meaning. I think the phrase, "come disconnect the dots" is simply the singer's way of saying come break down all of the barriers of what this world is and just come be with me. Obviously he is saying this to his "poppit" which has already been explained and obviously this is someone very near and dear.
Their lunacy is their love and it's so beautiful to them even if it isn't something complicated or well structured like the dots of the world. Their happiness in their own world is the beauty and meaning of this song. At least that's what I think.

This song, like most of the tracks on Satanic Panic, is about taking drugs and falling in love with everything.

I think it sounds so innocent but it's like an invitation for a girl he likes to come do drugs with him and experience how good it feels. It is an amazing song too, I love the music, totally rapture.

a poppet is a wikkan doll meant to represent the harvest god. they also can be used as voodoo dolls.

beyond that i'm not sure, just having fun with a voodoo doll i guess.

I absolutely love the intro to this song - it makes you want to dance. And it does sound very 80's, maybe thats why I like it so much haha. And I thought it said boppet? Oh well.

I believe the song speaks of losing control, being in love, and enjoying it. Disconnecting the dots would mean giving into chaos, disordering a figure, setting the dots loose. Still a game though, the lunacy of love. Poppet is such a cute nickname.

Based on many of the band's song titles, album art, lyrics, etc, I understand that the use of drugs, particularly entheogens like LSD (refer to song title "Lysergic Bliss," which I believe is on the same album) play a role in the influence of the band.

That being said, I agree with the posts here that say it is about taking drugs, however something more. It's not just about taking any drug, and more than the drug usage itself, it's about seeing the world in a different way, which hallucinogenic/entheogenic drugs oftentimes enable the user to do. To me, it seems to be renouncing the logical thought processes so central to our daily lives.

Think about it-- in our (sober) world, the ability to make logical connections between things -- concepts, actions, time, everything; is valued. At very early ages, we are taught to connect dots. (remember dot-to-dots?) The ability of the prefrontal cortex to make rational judgments, decisions, is highly valued. In school, you learn little pieces of information, and then "connect the dots" to understand a concept. It's deduction, but not creation. In a way, this song celebrates, seeing the world not in terms of dots which you can connect, but kind of painting your own picture.

The human brain, as configured for practical daily use, fine-tuned to logic, can make rational decisions better than any other species, and is very good at making connections between different things to create utility (technological advancement) but for instance do not have the sensory capabilities that other animals have. For instance, bees can see a wider spectrum of visible light than we do, some animals can hear better, smell better, etc...but do not have the logical capabilities that we posess.

Drugs like LSD allow the brain to receive an overflow of sensory input, in such a way that the user "sees" and "hears" things that are not there (or at least cannot be picked up by a normally configured human brain). People may lose the ability to make decisions based on the deduction of sensory stimuli and their significance, but are able to "see" a lot more.

Some of this is extrapolation, I know, but I think it says something more about the nature of the drug experience than the mere encouragement of drug usage. It's not about rebelling, it's about experiencing beauty.

Here's a romantic take on this song:

Throwing out the traditional constellations and turning the blank chart of the sky into a language shared and known by only two.
