If you want to be my friend
You want us to get along
Please do not expect me to
Wrap it up and keep it there
The observation I am doing could
Easily be understood
As cynical demeanor
But one of us misread

And what do you know
It happened again

A friend is not a means
You utilize to get somewhere
Somehow I didn't notice
Friendship is an end

What do you know
It happened again

How come no one told me
All throughout history
The loneliest people
Were the ones who always spoke the truth
The ones who made a difference
By withstanding the indifference
I guess it's up to me now
Should I take that risk or just smile?

What do you know
It happened again
What do you know

I totally agree with josephRaymond. I think the song is about a person who is too honest for their own good and so people don't understand them. They misread the things they say. When they feel that a person is using them, they let it be known that that's how they feel. If there is something about their friend that bothers them, they can't be expected to just forget about it and leave it there, they're going to try and do something about it. But, in the end, this kind of behavior can backfire and in the end the person can be left with no friends, bcuz even when he tries to behave himself, "what do u know, it happened again". So, should he just paste a smile on his face and try to forget about the things that bother him about people? Or should he continue to be honest and only keep the people in his life that don't misread the things he says?

You know, they say the meaning of the song is the meaning to you. To me its not about a girlfriend neccessarily, it's about relationships with people in general. The person this song is about is a very honest and up front person. He has a habit of picking out peoples flaws and letting them know about it with honest intentions, but the other person gets hurt and misunderstands his intentions of trying to be the best friend you'll ever meet. A friend that will be brutally honest simply becuase of the fact that he wants to make you an even better person. Long story short, he burns a bridge because the other person doesn't get it.

this song is great because it could be interpreted in so many ways to different people. and it sounds great, of course. :)

my first interpretation would be that he's trying to choose between a life of solitude and a life with friends. being alone means being self-reliant and independent, without anyone to let you down. but a life with others is wonderful because they're there to share it with you, but you end up losing sight of yourself, a lot. the balance between both is important, yet sometimes we struggle with question anyway.

my second interpretation would be about him misinterpreting his relationship to a friend. he loves her, she doesn't, he's aware of this and can't stay friends with her because of it.

i don't think other people do not quite get the meaning of this song. i think it means that friendship is not needed to be great. and to be great you most likely wouldnt find making friends easliy because you dont want all the bullshit that goes with it.

we are all brought up by different cultures and values. some are taught to be brutally honest; others are brought up to be non-confrontational. because of this, misunderstandings are common. neither person is particularly correct nor wrong, it just depends on how you look at things sometimes.

"How come no-one told me, All throughout history, The loneliest people, were the ones who always spoke the truth." That is very true, in my life anyway.

This song is so catchy and 'happy', yet once you listen to the lyrics wou realise how sad it is. Especially when you realise you did the same thing as the singer to a friend. Sigh. Honesty is priceless, yet it's repercussions are infinite

This is a song about how a couple breaks up but she wants them to still be friends. Although she does, it just isn't working.

i love this song... i recently found out about the band and they are very good... very mellow, almost like simon and garfunkel, especially the song, "homesick"

It doesn't have to be about love - romantic love - infact, I think it's not. But it's good. Peaceful, like all kol songs, but sexy, rhythmic, wise.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
