    great song

    the hotel chelsea, which this song refers to, was a hotel in new york that everyone hip stayed at. there was leonard cohen, dylan, burroughs, joplin, tom wolfe, jefferson airplane, nico, and other artists, writers, and filmmakers. i'm not sure exactly who all the people in this song are but i'm sure some of them are people from andy warhol's movies. anyways, lotsa people did drugs and wrote music at the chelsea and that's what this song talks about.

    The song is based on the Warhol movie Chelsea Girls, which nico herself appeared in. Some of the other people who appear in the film, mentioned in the song include:

    Ingrid Superstar's real name was probably Ingrid von Scherven or something similar. Susan Bottomly's AKA was International Velvet. She might be the Susan referred to in the lyrics.

    Chelsea Girls is about the girls Nico knew at the Chelsea Hotel. It's a great song. Her voice is so hollow.

    My Interpretation

    The song was written I believe by Lou Reed and is about the Chealsea Girls who starred in the film of the same title. Lou allowed Nico to sing this on her debut. It is a wonderful song and also does refference the Chelsea hotel, which is what Chelsea Girls is all about I believe.

Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith.
