So we've put an end to it this time.
I'm no longer yours and you're no longer mine.
You said this hill looks far too steep
If I'm not even sure it's me you want to keep.
And it's been ten days without you in my reach,
And the only time I've touched you is in my sleep.

But time has changed nothing at all
You're still the only one that feels like home.
I've tried cutting the ropes and
I let you go but you're still the only one
That feels like home.

You won't talk me into it next time,
If I'm going away your hearts coming too.
'Cause I miss your hands I miss your face.
When I get back let's disappear without a trace.

'Cause it's been ten days without you in my reach,
And the only time I've touched you is in my sleep.

But time has changed nothing at all
You're still the only one that feels like home.
I've tried cutting the ropes,
Tried letting go but you're still the only one
That feels like home.

So tell me, did you really think
Oh tell me, did you really think
I had gone when you couldn't see me anymore?
When you couldn't

'Cause baby time has changed nothing at all
You're still the only one that feels like home.
And I've tried cutting the ropes,
I let you go but you're still the only one
That feels like home, yeah,
You're still the only one that feels like home,
You're still the only one I've gotta love.
Oh yeah

My Interpretation:No offense to the Aussie crowd and their interpretation, 'tis the beauty of art to be interpreted by the consumer, viewer, listner, whatever media is presented, hence individuality. The context in which I found this song though and the meaning is quite different to me.

So we've put an end to it this time.
I'm no longer yours and you're no longer mine.
You said this hill looks far too steep
if I'm not even sure it's me you wanna keep.

An apparent breakup, He doesnt think that she wants him anymore, (stagnation, physical separation) or he thinks that the problems between them are too great to overcome, (you said this hill looks far too steep)

But time has changed nothing at all -
you're still the only one that feels like home.
I've tried cutting the ropes and
I let you go but you're still the only one
    that feels like home.

The time apart, thus far, she has tried to emotionally detach (cutting the ropes), but whatever comfort, security, familiarity, or home they had made together is what she really misses. Having growin accustom to someone, their mannerisms, idiosyncrasies, she now finds that these 'isms' are haunting her.

You won't talk me into it next time,
if I'm going away your hearts coming too.
'Cos I miss your hands I miss your face.
When I get back let's disappear without a trace.

I would imagine in the relationship that he has been the one trying to salvage it, and find the pieces of it, wherever they may lay, he has been trying to convince her not to gleave him emotionally, (you wont talk me into it next time), but now that she sees that this IS what she wants, and when she gains the courage to return, then she will indefinitely. She will be the one to come back and salvage the relationship this time around.

So tell me, did you really think...
oh tell me, did you really think
I had gone when you couldn't see me anymore?
    When you couldn't...

She knows that he has been the one struggling to fix it all along though she broke it off. She is telling him rehtorically, that after the love that they have experienced together, there is no way that it could simply disappear. Even after trying to be firm with her decision, somewhere inside she longs for that familiarity that makes their relationship unique.

I think the rest is repetitive, but the last line. This song was sent to me by my ex today, we have a daughter together, so it means something different to me. Missy says.

you're still the only one I've gotta love.

General Comment:i'm not australian or anything, but this song is the story of my life living overseas. my then-boyfriend moved away from where we were living a little more than a year ago. we "put an end to it," but "time has changed nothing at all." i still love him today.

General Comment:This song means everything to me. I can't explain how perfectly it fits right now.

I'm leaving Australia tomorrow; who knows when I'll be back. I don't want to leave him.

General Comment:I'm not Aussie (which means I can't find Missy albums anywhere around here, but anyway...) and I've never moved away from my country, but I have a friend who's an Aussie. We met over the summer and I instantly felt so comfortable with him, and then I returned back here, so far away from him and I miss him. Ten Days is the song that makes me think of him, because "Time has changed nothing at all - you're still the only one that feels like home."

Everything's so crazy and confusing, everyone has expectations but when I talk to him I feel like myself.
Except that it hasn't been ten days without him in my reach - it's more like 10 months...

General Comment:This is my fave Missy song! She wrote it when overseas about a guy she was missing (i think they broke up when she left) and sent it to him for his birthday. But apparently she spoke to him a while later and he said he was doing great without her, so she then wrote an angry song for him. She played it live in Melbourne, and it was awesome, it had a real sarcastic, nasty sting to it, i hope it's on one of her Cd's in the future.

She's so good, I seem to be able to relate to all her songs right now.

General Comment:I love this song so much. It describes the feeling exactly of being far away from someone you love and how hard it can be. To sum it up this song is very acurately about how "absence makes the heart grow fonder"

General Comment:I totally agree with you Tyruunie. I am Australian, living overseas so I can totally relate to what you're saying, and what Missy is trying to express. I got this CD two days before I moved back after Christmas break and 'Ten Days' just sums up the feeling of loosing someone perfectly. When you're at home, with the people you love, you feel accepted, safe and warm. When you're away by yourself, you feel foreign, out of place and lonely. I feel like Missy left a loved one behind, and for her, no matter what, that person is home.

"You said this hill looks far too steep,
if I'm not even sure it's me you wanna keep."
I feel like this deals with the issues of long distance relationships.
