It seems to be saying that love is something that will always end in sorrow ("first it gets hot then cold in the end it hurts"), yet it is something we unavoidably yearn for. The metaphore of it being a wild beast is quite accurate, I think. Rammsteins' lyrics are always to deliciously bittersweet. ;)

This song _is_ about love. In detail it's about a relationship:
at first, you really want your partner
then, you have a great time together
after that, love expires
and at last, it will end (your partner dies, or you leave him/her)

Somehow you can't live without love, but in the end love will hurt you ... and therefore "he" wants: "bitte, bitte, gib mir gift" to get out of this vicious circle!

"Bitte bitte, gib mir Gift" - could 'Gift' be a reference to love itself? Everyone seeks it frantically but in the end it poisons us... how would it have sounded if it was "bitte bitte, gib mir Liebe"? Sound more plausible?

LadyMage, you couldn't have heard this song on Live Aus Berlin. This song was released on Rammstein's fourth album, Reise Reise, in 2004. Live Aus Berlin was recorded in 1998, and only has songs from the band's first two albums. (Besides that new song, Wilder Wein.)

I think This song is saying that love is above everything and nobody can control it nor can anybody tame it ("alle wollen nur dich zähmen....am ende gefangen zwischen deinen zähnen"). you can't control your fucking feelings and love makes you blind. I think this song is great and the greatest thing about it is definitely the "bitte bitte gib mir gift" at the end, saying that there's no escape from this wild animal but death

I totally agree with Ladymage's description of some of rammsteins song's, the lyrics are examples of late 19century early 20 century romantic poetry.

frisst mich auf mit haut und haar und würgt mich wieder aus nach tag und jahr is a very strong metaphor for the feeling to fall in love and the feeling to end a relationship.

this song is about cocain.
in the whole song he ist taking about love but the phrases he use are very invidious (the love is hunting you and eats him up from the inside.
It drops softly like snow (Lässt sich fallen weich wie Schnee)
First it gets hot then cold in the end it hurts (Erst wird es heiß dann kalt am Ende tut es weh)
--> schnee = snow it's a german metaphor for cocain
--> First it gets hot then cold in the end it hurts --> discribes how the trip feels and ends in pain

--> everyone is trying to tame it (cocain) but in the end the beast (refer to line 1) ate you up (caught between your teeth)
but he is going on taking cocain and the drug is holding to him and beats him up (It bites and scratches and steps towards me

i think this song is about how everyone thinks that they wont get hurt by love, that 'this is true love' and it will last forever but get torn to pieces in the end, regardless & many people have grown sick of it & wish for freedom >> "Please please give me poison"

you come out of a relationship & think 'im gonna be free now' but then some guy/girl comes around & drags you through the whole cycle all over again; delicious beginnings & horrible endings; 'love doesn't last'
