Lyrics for Dalai Lama (english) as interpreted by Shoot_Me

Dalai Lama (english) Lyrics
An airplane is in the evening wind
On board is a man with his child as well
They sit secure and warm
and so they fall into the trap of sleep
In three hours they will be there
for mama's birthday
The view is good the sky is clear

Onwards, onwards into destruction
We must live until we die
Humans don't belong in the sky
So the lord in Heaven calls
his sons to the wind
Bring me this human child

The child has still lost time
Then an echo jumps to his ears
A muffled rumbling drives the night
and the driver of the clouds laughs
He shakes the human cargo awake

Onwards, onwards into destruction
We must live until we die
And the child says to the father
Don't you hear the thunder
That's the king of all the winds
He wants me to become his child

From the clouds falls a choir
which crawls into the little ear
Come here, stay here
We'll be good to you
Come here, stay here
We are your brothers

The storm embraces the flying machine
The pressure falls quickly in the cabin
A muffled rumbling drives the night
In panic the human cargo screams

Onwards, onwards into destruction
We must live until we die
And to God the child pleads
Heaven take back the wind
Bring us unharmed to earth

From the clouds falls a choir
which crawls into the little ear
Come here, stay here
We'll be good to you
Come here, stay here
We are your brothers

The father is now holding onto the child
and has pressed it tightly against himself
He doesn't notice it's difficulty in breathing
But fear knows no mercy
So with his arms the father
squeezes the soul from the child
Which takes it's place upon the wind and sings:

Come here, stay here
We'll be good to you
Come here, stay here
We are your brothers

It's kind a mix of the Ramstein Flugschau story and "Der Erlkönig" by Goethe.
For me, its genious :|

Thats the cool thing. No bands make a song without saying the title. {that I can think of at least.}
It would have been cool if it was on a horse. jk

another version of Goethe's Der Erlkönig. the horse is replaced with an airoplane. it has nothing to do with the Dalai Lama or Buddhism for that matter it is named this just because of the Dalai Lamas infamous dislike of flying.

i thought about that again and i guess the poem by goethe can be understood in both ways:
the rational one in which the child dies by fever.
or the rather mystic one in which there's some supernatural being killing the child.

i think it's also possible in the original poem that the child dies by his father pressing it too tight because he's in some way scared about the child's words and worried of course.
that again would make it possible to include some supernatural being as well that causes the man to press his child to death.
in rammstein's song for the reason that doesn't want human beings to reach heaven by themselves.

*confused*

i agree that it's refering to der erlkönig, but i still dont get it.
-- the wikipedia entry about der erlkönig says the poem is about "the death of a child assailed by a supernatural being".
so that would quite fit to the rammstein song, but makes the actual poem quite pointless, doesn't it.
just telling about the death of a young boy caused by some supernatural being would not be typical for Goethe.

i always thought the child was ill and the erl king was imaginary due to his feverish dreams - what in the end killed the child was just the fever.
but that doesn't make any sense in the song, does it.

am i awfully wrong?
anybody explain it to me please ^^

Alemur is right. And, much as I love Rammstein, the original is better, I think.

It seems to me that the child in the song is more aware of the danger than the father is. The kid hears all these voices and can sense the storm coming, while the father is just focused on getting back home. His child even asks, "Don't you hear the thunder," but the father is still oblivious at that point and it's not until the storm finally hits that he sees the truth in his child's predictions.

As he starts to hold the child instinctively, like parents do in such situations, all is already lost. In the end one can't be quite sure whether the child's difficulty in breathing comes from the drop in pressure in the airplane, or from a supernatural source that is out to claim the child for itself, or whether the father unintentionally suffocates the child due to his own fear.

The song seemed to me at first just a very nice song with enchanting choir, after i read the lyrics and got the translation, i began memorizing it, although i do not understand German, because the meaning of the song and the depth of it is really something that touches me deeply, and such ideas as fate and destiny are really problematic, the way the poet put it is just wonderful, i can't say the story is sad, it's a bit scary though, anyone watched tThe Omen?

Alright, I'm going to clarify for those people who didnt already know. This song is based off the poem Der Erlkönig by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

Gosh - a Rammstein-fan who can count further then links-2-3-4!

BTW: links=left I don't know which song it is from but it was made by rammstein to show that they are not right-winged politicaly. but links-2-3-4 can also be interpreted as links-rechts-links-rechts so it ends on right.

Their lyrics are with no real information - meaning - or anything.
I think only people who are realy simpleminded like them for the lyrics because they think that the lyrics are so good that they can't understand them.

Does anybody know if the Dalai Lama has taken any position towards Rammstein and their use of his title in this song?

perhaps he is afraid that the heavens will claim him... or something

The word is "plane". And yeah, there was never meant to be a plane crash. It doesn't imply once in the lyrics that the plane crashes, just that there's a storm.

Now, on the subject of you having enough time to make forty-six useless comments... get something better to do.

oh crap, i just got it. there's no plain crash. obviously the kid and his dad are on this plain. god(which is perhaps just a symbol that represents dreams/destiny/other such things) sees the kid and claims the kid as his own. the wind calls the kid up to heaven, to no longer be human(to die in some way, perhaps metaphorical). "He wants me to become his child", the kid is excited, maybe somewhat frightened, but ultimately hysterical. everyone else on the plain is freaking out. the dad grabs the kid, and he's holding him back. the dad is trying to protect his son from being pulled out into the sky, but he holds so tight that he suffocates the child. the kid's dies and his spirit goes out and becomes part of the wind, singing and calling others to rise to their dreams/destiny. this song could be about a lot of things, like censorship and stuff... 46
