Is it dark yet outside?
I'm through hiding tonight
Take from the rest, your debt erased
Sleep with my curse and feel no shame
No shame

It might take you all night
But you'll love me with time
Take from the rest, your debt erased
Sleep with my curse and feel no shame
No shame

Take from the rest, your debt erased
Sleep with my curse and feel no shame
No shame

Is it dark yet outside?
I'm through hiding tonight
Take from the rest your debt erased
Sleep with my curse and feel no shame
No shame

Take from the rest your debt erased
Sleep with my curse and feel no shame
No shame

General Comment:Great track. I have both the 7"'s that were handed to me at Rasputin in Berkeley when buying Futures on CD the day it came out, and I still play them to this day. It doesn't quite match the rest of Futures in style and feel, I think that's why it's left off, but still glad to have it released in some form.

As for meaning, heck, it's a little cryptic. But it's all clear in one line: "I'm through hiding tonight."

General Comment:this is proof that no matter what theses guys put out there its still good material...it doesn't matter if it made it on the album or not!

General Comment:as this song has only seven lines of lyrics you can probably read everything you want into it, but to me it kind of sounds like it sums up the themes of the futures-cd, except for nothing wrong: i'm aware of my mistakes, but i want you to forgive them as i forgive yours and be finally loved for who i aim to be.

General Comment:Indeed, indeed. It's possible, but Jim's notoriously gnomish about inspiration. He insists that his songs are about whatever you want them to be.

General Comment:probably the best song from 'futures'. i wonder why they chose to leave it off the album...

and in response to sin-é: i agree with that. jim has implied in several interviews that he is a big reader. quite a few of their songs contain refernces to various literature or have been clearly inspired by it.

General Comment:It's a song about a Vampire who kidnapped the woman he loves and is trying to turn her, but she seems reluctant, so he tells her to feel no shame.

General Comment:Has anyone else read John Irving's "The Fourth Hand"? It seems like this song could fit with that, particularly the chorus, and the "It might take you your life, but you'll love me with time" part could refer to Patrick's relationship with Doris.

It wouldn't be the first time Jim used an Irving novel as a source for a song, i.e. "Goodbye Sky Harbor" being modeled after Irving's "A Prayer for Owen Meany."

General Comment:I agree with wnxsnipers6 like you could relate this song to someone who has problems admiting their sexuality to people:
    "Is it dark yet outside?
    I'm through hiding tonight
Take from the rest, your debt erased
Sleep with my curse and feel no shame
    No shame"
The person's saying they're tired of hiding what they are really from people and they'll live with their 'curse' and try not to feel shame.
Or it could be someone who is gay and really likes someone else but that person's too afraid to come out and they're saying "It might take you all night
But you'll love me with time" like one day they might admit it to themselves and other people but at the same time the writer of the song's saying it's okay because they understand "Take from the rest, your debt erased, Sleep with my curse and feel no shame"
    Awesome song whatever it means!
