When the half light makes for a clearer view
Sleep a little more if you want to
But restlessness has seized me now, it’s true
I could watch the dreams flicker in your eyes
Lying here asleep on a sunbeam
I wonder if you realize you fascinate me so

Think about a new destination
If you think you need inspiration
Roll out the map and mark it with a pin
I will follow every direction
Just lace up your shoes
While I’m fetching a sleeping bag, a tent . . . .

Another summer’s passing by
All I need is somewhere I feel the grass beneath my feet
A walk on sand, a fire I can warm my hands
My joy will be complete

I thought about a new destination
I’m never short of new inspiration
Roll out the map and mark it with a gin
Made my plans to conquer the country
I’m waiting for you to get out of your situation
With your job and with your life

All I need is somewhere I feel the grass beneath my feet
A walk on sand
A fire, I can warm my hands
My joy will be complete

General Comment:I swear I can hear that in the part of "your situation with your job and with your life", I don't know if is Stuart or Sarah, but I think it's definitely Stuart who sings "wife" alongside "life".

    Someone thinks the same?

My Interpretation:I think this song is about divine discontent. Wanting to escape, to go on a trip to a place you've never been before.

General Comment:This song means a lot to me right now. I'm planning on going to England in the new year to teach and travel. I was there for the past six months and I loved it. I would love it if the object of my affection would pick up and leave his current situation to travel with me ("waiting for you to get out of your situation with your job and with your life").

i don't know. I just love the feeling of escape in this song. :)

General Comment:I agree with TearsforAffairs regarding Sarah and Isobel. As much as I love Isobel her leaving the and was definatly of benefit to their music as far as I am concerned as it unleashed Sarah's talents which tended to get overlooked before "Waitress" was released. She has a wonderfully soft yet slightly husky tone.

This song has always struck me as being a love song about a couple wanting to be with each other but one of the couple is involved with someone else.

Or maybe im reading to much into it and it really is just about tents and stuff!

General Comment:It just stirs such happy feelings...

Waking up and seeing the one you love, lying barefoot in the grass with them...

Kind of a lazy relaxation song. It's amazing.

General Comment:1.) okay, what an idiot I am, of course this is Sarah singing, when I posted that I had just started listening to B&S. btw, Sarah's stuff with the band is way better than Isobel's, imo

2.) maybe this is more about camping just on the surface, but really it's talking about the idea of sort of "getting out" of one's life for a while? the whole thing has an escapist feel, and it sounds like she (the singer) is waiting for a significant other to get out of his current situation so they can escape together. just my thoughts.
