I spent
22 years in this zoo of broken faces.
The parents, the school children
watch me sit on this neon nest, naked.

YEEEEAH.
There's a girl in a cage,
makin' love to a switchblade.
There's a girl behind bars,
milk abandoned cars.
There's a priest in shackles,
makin' bombs outta' bibles.
A piano wire vine, men in the pines!
It goes 'round and 'round and 'round and 'round!

YEAHHH!
C'mon,C'mon!
Take me to the pit of celebrity pregnancy!
YEAHHH!
C'mon,c'mon,c'mon
I want to wear the skin of a magazine, baby!
YEAHHH!
C'mon,c'mon
Take me to the pit of celebrity pregnancies!
YEAHHH!
C'mon,c'mon,c'mon
the five o'clock news is fucking fantasy!

I stole the rice
from the beggars death bowl.
in this zoo of broken faces.
I told a widow that she was beautiful,
when half of her smile was missing.

and I've done my addition:
gun plus gun equals bang bang bang.
and I've done my division:
trash into trash equals trash flavored trash.

I wanna see more dirty places.
Take me to the hall of filthy faces.

There's a girl behind a chicken wire
coughing up ghosts.
There's a housewife in a cage
that vacuums all day.
There's a boy in toupee
speaking resume's.
And the teeth-heads with no eyes on the carousel rides that spin
round and round and round and round and round.

I've played my mission.
I've paid my submission.
I've seen the petition.
I've done my addition.
And I've done my division:
trash into trash equals trash flavored trash.

My Interpretation:It's not about "corporate America" or anything. It's an angst against people playing the roles that 'society' set for them, and the narrator is describing how he doesn't want to end up like them ("take me to the hall of filthy faces", "22 years in this zoo of broken faces").

General Comment:When I hear the line "Take me to the pit of celebrity pregnancies." I can't help but think of abortion. It's quite possible its actually a metaphor, but in a literal sense it can describe some giant wasteland where celebritys dump their unwanted child. Just a thought.

General Comment:I think the chorus is meaning throwing a magazine away... or finding one in the garbage can, and all the lies and images of expression in the magazine itself.

"gun plus gun = bang bang bang" i believe is just insulting the intelligence of the average celebrity or their follower. and then the toupee and housewife thing is obviously how we trap ourselves, which is where the zoo metaphor comes out. Its just showing the different aspects of human entrapment, how we all live in a cage where we make our own bars and call it "success."

General Comment:trash into trash=trash flavored trash.
the main part of the song, means to me, that trash and trash just makes even trashier trash. and things will just get worse and worse for...CORPORATE AMERICA.

General Comment:I think sporkit has got a lot of it right. There's two things I wanted to point out though...

I don't know what it says on the jacket, because I lost it, but the part that says "five o'clock news is fucking fantasy", in the song it sounds a lot like it says "five o'clock news is A fucking fantasy". I don't know if this makes much of a difference but that would make it sarcastic instead of meaning it's all made up.

    "There's a priest in shackles,
    makin' bombs outta' bibles."
This sounds to me a lot like the terrorists. We're capturing a bunch, so shackles, but then they are using their religious beliefs to do terrorism against us. Just a thought, though.

i kind of think that means something along the lines of the media/government using religion as a weapon, or how religion is creating wars, OR how people say they are a certain religion for attention
