General Comment:What the hell does Lynrd Skynrd have to do with the price of fish? I've hated this band the day I heard they dissed Neil. I now laugh that they had been destroyed by that plane crash, because it means I don't have to put up with any more of their crap fanboy beloved songs.

Trolling completed, now some of the comments here aren't very nice, and are flawed in attacking or defending opinions. Opinion are not universal facts, however ad hominem attacks are, as long as a person's back ground in music is justifibly questionable. Joking. John Bonham was 15 years ahead of his time in drumming prowess, the Rolling Stones have had longevity up the wazoo, Led Zeppelin was a very talented band in all areas, The Beatles were the best marketed band ever, period, and I'm still glad that Lynrd Skynrd died with that fateful plane crash.

General Comment:i wish i got in on this argument sooner...but just to give me a reason to leave a comment, i summarize....

Moby Dick on Zeppelin II is a different song than Bonzo's Montreaux on Coda. There are other versions that include the two as a medley from live shows or something.
Bonham was the best R'n'R-ish drummer from the 60's-1980's, in terms of being technically demanding and musically artful.
This song is named from Bonham's nickname (Bonzo) and the city it was recorded in (Montreaux).
most of all...lynard skynard sucks, allmans bros = incredible, led zeppelin is superior to even the most positive adjectives.

General Comment:Great song. And it only took thirty minutes of scrolling through posts to figure out what Montreux means.

General Comment:"The song is called Bonzo's Montreux because, as has been hinted at but not fully stated, it is named after John "Bonzo" Bonham who recorded it in 1978 at a studio in Montreux, Switzerland (with later electronic parts added by Jimmy Page). It was never released during the band's career - but placed in " Coda" (which is a technical term in music meaning "the end of a musical score" - an apt title for a collection of recordings released two years after the band disbanded) in 1982."

Well, isn't that kind of obvious?

And I thought Bonzo did the synthesizers as well in this song?

General Comment:IMHO, Skynyrd made two of one of the most greatest songs ever, Freebird and Sweet Home Alabama, and the rest suck...

But anyways, shouldn't we be making jokes about how this song's lyrics hold the secrets of life, like on all the other instrumentals?

General Comment:okay the only reason i joined was cause i saw this argument. Back in 2004 and maybe throughout the whole thing I can see nobody has a clear insight, or respect for music. saying this bands the best or that band, it's a fucking opinion, there is no best, there is favorite. Zeppelin is my favorite to >me< they are one of the best. Sorry but mentioning Skynyrd on a Zeppelin page is just stupid even more so w/ pink floyd. they're just all completely fuckin different. though i do have to point out the incredible combination of players in Zeppelin a true super group.

Anyway Coda was released after Bonham's (Bonzo) death, with Bonzo's Montreux on it after Jimmy Page added electronics to it. I think it's very symbolic of his death, montreux being final resting spot for those who know about Montreux. It's also one of the very few studio albums where you can hear Bonham's drum pedals squeaking. I can't believe I'm the only one commenting today b/c its the anniversary of John Bonham's death in 1980.

General Comment:at least you guys are having this argument on the page of a song with no lyrics... 5 pages of writing and still noone has come up with a good reason for it to be called Bonzo's Montreux. I know who bonzo was, what is a montreux?
