There is a house in New Orleans,
They call the Rising sun.
Well it's been the ruin of many a poor boy,
And God I know I'm one.

Oh mother, tell your children,
Not to do what I have done.
You spend your lives in sin and misery
In the house of the Rising Sun.

Well there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising sun.
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy,
And God I know I'm one.

General Comment:As a rule, I don't like covers of songs, when there is a definitive version ( as in this case - I realise the Animals were technically covering the song, but theirs is the definitive version ). However, I do like this. I was alerted to it through it being used in a trailer over here, and the first verse part is fabulous.

I don;t think the rest quite lives up to it, but a very cool cover of a very cool song. IMO.

General Comment:In my opinion it can be a metaphor for any kind of sin or addiction that you keep coming back to, despite it making your life hell. Alcohol, drugs, an unhappy relationship. I mean, I doubt Matt is the type to buy a woman - being who he is he can get some without paying. So personally I think Muse's spin on it is about some other kind of addiction.

General Comment:I believe this song is based on an actual location. It's a prostitute house. Given that information, it's pretty obvious as to what the song is about. Matt's singing about how "he" went there and regrets it very much. He's saying be warned that it's a terrible place and to keep people away from it. The cover has a lot more emotion and strength to it than the original, I think. Muse really makes it their own!

    That's my opinion anyway! :)

General Comment:OF COURSE!!! How come I didn't get that! It seems so obvious now. very obvious. Of course it's about a brothel! I guess I just didn't pay too much attention to the lyrics. Great song though. I like the cover a lot. It's quite different from the original one. Both great.
