And if the snow buries my
My neighborhood
And if my parents are crying
Then I'll dig a tunnel
From my window to yours
Yeah, a tunnel from my window to yours
You climb out the chimney
And meet me in the middle
The middle of the town
And since there's no one else around
We let our hair grow long
And forget all we used to know
Then our skin gets thicker
From living out in the snow
You change all the lead
Sleeping in my head
As the day grows dim
I hear you sing a golden hymn
Then we tried to name our babies
But we forgot all the names that
The names we used to know
But sometimes, we remember our bedrooms
And our parent's bedrooms
And the bedrooms of our friends
Then we think of our parents
Well, what ever happened to them
You change all the lead
Sleeping in my head to gold
As the day grows dim
I hear you sing a golden hymn
The song I've been trying to sing
Purify the colors, purify my mind
Purify the colors, purify my mind
And spread the ashes of the colors
Over this heart of mine!
My neighborhood
And if my parents are crying
Then I'll dig a tunnel
From my window to yours
Yeah, a tunnel from my window to yours
You climb out the chimney
And meet me in the middle
The middle of the town
And since there's no one else around
We let our hair grow long
And forget all we used to know
Then our skin gets thicker
From living out in the snow
You change all the lead
Sleeping in my head
As the day grows dim
I hear you sing a golden hymn
Then we tried to name our babies
But we forgot all the names that
The names we used to know
But sometimes, we remember our bedrooms
And our parent's bedrooms
And the bedrooms of our friends
Then we think of our parents
Well, what ever happened to them
You change all the lead
Sleeping in my head to gold
As the day grows dim
I hear you sing a golden hymn
The song I've been trying to sing
Purify the colors, purify my mind
Purify the colors, purify my mind
And spread the ashes of the colors
Over this heart of mine!

Here my interpretation.
As most of the people said this is a love song, but in a nostalgic way. Almost everyone have experience love throughout life, and probably we all have in mind the feeling, anxiety, fear and everything that love do. All this feelings are in this song.
The beginning of the song is all about falling in love. When you start feel love to another person you start to live in a bubble ad there is nothing else. Even your parents or neighborhood are making difference. You don't care what they are thinking or what happens to them. In poor words you don't give a shit to what happens around you, you just care about her/him.
Than in the second part, is more about when the relationship is stronger by time. In the beginning of a relationship you give the best (looking, manners, ecc), but after time you start also understand the week side, flaw of your partner. You accept that, if you truly love her/him. So that's why he is talking about let grow the hair, because the physic aspect is not that important to people that have built a strong love-relationship.
The end is pretty oblivious, is the end. after the break. After years you see the nostalgic part. You remember how much you have love her/him and how that relationship have affected your life, but you can't remember the small details (name of our babies).
Sorry for my English. It's not my first language, so for me it's quite difficult to write in correct English.
The first verse is about young lovers. A snowstorm covers the guy's neighborhood, and he digs a tunnel from his window to hers, meaning they live close together. And then there's the bit about his parents crying. They are made weary from old age, and no longer love each other. Likely, the girl's parents don't either.
The second bit in the song is mainly their plans, and there are two ways to interpret it from here. Either they are making these plans with each other, or they are actually doing it. I prefer to go with the latter, because the singer's crying tone of voice makes more sense that way. They go out and live in the snow, together. This is a good thing from this point in the song. Their skin gets thicker, and their hair longer. They live with each other.
"You change all the lead
Sleeping in my head
As the day grows dim
I hear you sing a golden hymn"
This is a very strange lyric. This could be the couple's sex (sleeping in my head as the day grows dim) or just another expression of love, as she changes heavy thoughts to light ones (lead to gold). It will come to have a double meaning later in the song.
The next verse is sad. They forgot the names of the village they left, showing the cons of leaving and cutting all ties. This is the second perspective, It's uncomfortable to even talk about their parents at this point. I always thought he said: "It won't ever happen again.", but he says apparently "Well what ever happened to them." What happened to them, is the same thing that happens to you. You fell out of love, except you are all that each other has.
This is the double meaning. He commits suicide, or is at least suicidal: "You change all the lead, sleeping in my head... The song I've been trying to sing." He's realized that he's become his parents. He can't bear this thought. The outro, he just sings about purifying his mind and scattering the ashes. All terms for death.
Sleeping in my head
As the day grows dim
I hear you sing a golden hymn
maybe she makes him not want to die. lots of things are heavy but bullets are lead.
They're the Romeo and Juliets of their neighborhood
Purify the colors, pure as fire my mind
Didn't put it as lyrics correction last time :D
Purify the colors, pure as fire, my mind.
And spread the ashes of the colors
over this heart of mine!!
