Lyrics for Blood Of The Scribe as interpreted by jc6md

Blood Of The Scribe Lyrics
All of this comes crashing down. Cornerstone's gone
Sleepless. Hopeless. No end in sight
Ink well has run dry, fill it with blood of the scribe
Rest comes easy to the guiltless
The vampire laments as he prays for the sun
Doom, despair, tragedy are the tools of the trade
Cut to the bone, rob the grave
Unearth the stone, lay to waste
Defile the tomb, rip the page
Strip mine the vein, lay to waste
Frayed at the edge, flat lined. The anvil cracks
The hammer relentlessly comes down
A new pariah is born
Chastisement lays you down to sleep
Tucks you in with bloody kisses
Gifts of nightmares bitter sweet
Type A negative shuts me down
Catch phrase will be the death of me
Is this not what you came to see?
What, are you not entertained?
Climb the walls till nails bleed
Rip the hair, tear the seams, break the glass
Head in hands, bell tolls endlessly
No end in sight.

is "...Bloody Kisses...Type A Negative..." an allusion to the Type-O album?

this is one of my favorites too jhoo. so i'll make a comment.

first, egghead, not all blood means type-o. lots of songs talk about blood. try finding a true metal or hardcore album that never uses the word blood.

I love the vampire preys for your soul pun.

and this song is about depression and its awesome. I love the deviations from politics in Ashes of the Wake

I think this is yet another song about the politics that goes on in America."Rest comes easy to the guiltless" the head leaders can lie and manipulate the public and knowing its wrong they can still sleep at night no caring about it."Doom, despair, tragedy are the tools of the trade" This is what are stupid ass fucking president use to get us to agree to go to war in iraq."rob the grave" the government will rob or do anything to hide the truth. even denying that someone existed.

Why does everyone think the only thing Lamb of God write about is politics?
Yeah, sure, we all hate Bush, get over it.

I'd say this one is about depression for sure, MAYBE about suicide.

"Ink well has run dry, fill it with blood of the scribe"
"Cut to the bone"
- And the rest of the lyrics sort of swing that way, some way or another, I think mostly, about making mistakes, the reason.

To me this song seems to tell a story of someone who's on at the end of the line "Sleepless. Hopeless. No end in sight" who has probably commited crimes, murder "Ink well has run dry, fill it with blood of the scribe
Rest comes easy to the guiltless" conviction "The hammer relentlessly comes down
A new pariah is born" and is overall going insane :Rip the hair, tear the seams, break the glass
Head in hands, bell tolls endlessly."

i dunno though this is one of my first comments. It also seems like anarchy could be involved in the song, i'm not sure. its just what it seems to mean to me.

It seems to me that this song is telling the story of some entity trying desperately to hold on to the threads of a crumbling deception, and the toll that this farce is taking on said entity. I've written in explanations where I saw fit, but please fill in the gaps

All of this comes crashing down. Cornerstone's gone
(The deception is failing because some underlying lie has been exposed/realised)
Sleepless. Hopeless. No end in sight
(Statement on the difficulties of keeping up such a deception)
Ink well has run dry, fill it with blood of the scribe
(Running out of ways to lie, so a new scapegoat is found)
Rest comes easy to the guiltless
(self explanatory)
The vampire (the deciever) laments as he prays for the sun (wishes he didn't have to lie)
Doom, despair, tragedy are the tools of the trade
(Tactics used to uphold the deception)

Cut to the bone, rob the grave
Unearth the stone, lay to waste
Defile the tomb, rip the page
Strip mine the vein, lay to waste

Frayed at the edge, flat lined (the deception is evidently coming undone). The anvil (the basis of the deception, relating back to the first 2 lines of the song i.e. 'cornerstone') cracks
The hammer relentlessly comes down
(The deception is repeatedly questioned)
A new pariah is born
(A new scapegoat is found)

Chastisement lays you down to sleep
Tucks you in with bloody kisses
Gifts of nightmares bitter sweet
Type A negative shuts me down
Catch phrase will be the death of me

Is this not what you came to see?
What, are you not entertained?
(Justification of the deception)
Climb the walls till nails bleed
Rip the hair, tear the seams, break the glass
(Entity will do whatever it takes to keep its ruse alive, to the end of its sanity)
Head in hands, bell tolls endlessly
No end in sight.
(The mental burden of balancing an intricate web of lies)

Ah, everybody's thinking too politically and not ideologically enough. think CENSORSHIP! the clues are everywhere!

Combine that with a slightly less fervent search for anti-bush lyrics (i hate bush too, don't get me wrong), and you've got a song about the US government's manipulation of the media and individuals that works an awful lot like censorship.

this might be a look at LOG themselves. Their prior album did gain a lot of popularity they had never seen before "cut to the bone..strip mine the vein" these terms could all be referring to the pressure of being a success. How the public is expecting you to come out with an album just as good as the last, and that expectation slowly wears down a band as the "bell tolls endlessly." With the pressure to be the next new thing only to result in having "Catch phrase will be the death of me."

So basically, its about the ficklesness of the industry, the pressure to be big that only results in people wanting you to fail.

"Chastisement lays you down to sleep
Tucks you in with bloody kisses"
Criticism from old fans, jaded metal people who hate anything that plays outside of small metal clubs

"Is this not what you came to see?
What, are you not entertained?"
You wanted us to do good, you supported us, now you're unhappy that we're popular and other people like us? Our music is still good, we havent changed, the only thing that changed is the fans view of the band

drunk at six in the morning and this song came up. i always thought this song refferedd to the brain as a "scribe" writing to your emotions to your soul. whether the brain be learning a truth or a lie it is writing it and causeing you to feel how you feel. the brain can be considered a scribe because it doesn't "write" exactly what it sees but puts a twist on it through emotions. For example "All of this comes crashing down" Refers to the brain learning a new truth and going into high gear "writing" about it in the paper that is your soul. "Sleepless. Hopeless. No end in sight." the scribe works at all times. dreaming. thinking of new outcomes. "Inkwell has run dry. Fill it with blood of the scribe" the brain has stopped writing but the soul continues to burn. "the vampire laments as he prays for the sun" the "vampire" in this case the soul, crys out for help from the misery he has had to endure at the hands of the scribes writing. he prays for the sun to rid him of his misery. "doom, despair, tragedy are the tools of the trade" the "scribe" knows only how to manipulate through the use of these. without them the thoughts do not become actions . the next couple of lines all show what the soul thinks needs to be done to cleanse itself of what it feels. "frayed at the edge....." the soul has gone crazy. it cannot take what the scribe is writing but the "anvil" continously pummels it. The last few lines are quite important, I think. "Climb the walls till nails bleed, Rip the hair, tear the seams, break the glass, head in hands, bell tolls endlessly no end in sight." The things the human does do rid himself of the "scribe" rip his hair out, tear his head apart, claw at his eyes to get rid of the "scribe" that runs his life that makes him depressed and maniacal. Bell tolls refers to the connection that the brain and the soul have going on endlessly and never ceasing.

well thats it my first attempt at a meaning to a song.

Politicaly it refers to restriction of civil rights under the bush administration, and restrictions of reporting and things of the sort that have taken place throughout the years past since 2001...
"Ink well has run dry"- People have tried to report truth behind alot of the bush admin's doings
however,
"Fill it with the blood of the scribe"- Gov't (government)/ Bush Admin's response, through infringements on constitutional and civil rights, and more specific punishment towards reporters or whatever, which also serves as an example to the people in attempt to intimidate us into not undermining gov't

The gov't does so guiltlessly.

Doom despair and tragedy,
In essence, the things that people attempt to undermine when it comes to government are all thing that in one way or another are related to some sort of crisis, etc.
The only thing is, these are the types of things that really keep gov't and politics running

Cut to the bone, rob the grave, unearth the stone, lay to waste;
People trying to undermine the gov't and the Gov't in response will both try to rip each other apart figuratively, and reveal what is supposedly the truth. They'll go back and bring out dirt on each other about things that took place in the past and for the most part have been laid to rest discussion- wise, and theyll both say that they have found the truth about the other and insist its the truth, the only truth and nothing but the truth.

Defile the tomb
Theyll both one way or the other try to ruin each others reputation
and initially thats the point

Rip the page
Theyll both try to deny things about the other that are suppose to be true, in attempt to again bring down the others reputation

Strip-mine the vein
Theyll both take each possible iota suggesting imperfection in the other and try to use it in their attempt to bring the other down

Lay to waste
One or the other will be overturned in time

Moving on, the part from chastizement to bitter sweet nightmares, i believe refers, to how either side of this conflict between gov't and individual will try to make you feel guilty for what you believe in in support of the other.

Thats all i can write now.. my class bell just rung
haha tell me what you think for something done by an 11th grader lol

Kwama King had the first real true meaning the song could have, because its not about george bush. If you add notdrunkenough's comment to the mix and it sounds like Kwama King's comment is talking about Lamb of God, themselves.
