Lyrics for Vertigo as interpreted by Lyra

Vertigo Lyrics
Unos dos tres catorce!

Lights go down, it’s dark
The jungle is your head
Can’t rule your heart
A feeling is so much stronger than
A thought
Your eyes are wide
And though your soul
It can’t be bought
Your mind can wander

Hello hello
I’m at a place called Vertigo
It’s everything I wish I didn’t know
Except you give me something I can feel, feel

The night is full of holes
As bullets rip the sky
Of ink with gold
They twinkle as the
Boys play rock and roll
They know they can’t dance
At least they know

I can’t stand the beats
I’m asking for the cheque
The girl with crimson nails
Has Jesus round her neck
Swinging to the music
Swinging to the music
Oh oh oh oh

Hello hello
I’m at a place called Vertigo
It’s everything I wish I didn’t know
But you give me something I can feel, feel

Check mated
Oh yeah
Hours of fun

All of this, all of this can be yours
All of this, all of this can be yours

All of this, all of this can be yours
Just give me what I want and no-one gets hurt

Hello hello
We’re at a place called Vertigo
Lights go down and all I know
Is that you give me something
I can feel your love teaching me how
Your love is teaching me how, how to kneel
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

The UNO, DOS, TRES CATORCE, stands for 3.14, the well known PI number. It makes a lot of sense if you watch the video, with all the circles and stuff. That´s the reasoin why Bono says that line. Vertigo, is produced by the spinning, spin the circle, wich diameter is defined by PI, that is 3.14.

Hey Brandnew1208: Knowing is a gift, and as much as i can say, you weren´t given one. U2 is the best band in the world,no because they promote records using Ipods, or making showcases for Apple. They are the best because they do best. Vertigo is what some bands like The Strokes, Hives or Vines tried to cope. Remeber man U2´s been here for almost 25 years, they were there by the time The Velvet Underground, The Clash and The Sex Pistols. U2 is better because they do best, and if you fail to notice it, at least show some dignity.

U2 sucks, and this song makes no sense, considering that you get vertigo by a fear of heights, and in the video they have the ground coming up around them, having them at THE lowest pt possible. They suck. They should go learn how to die.

U2 are a self-indulgent distraction for the middle classes.

I think they were using Vertigo as a representation of anxiety Anna, its a common thing to do in songs use of representation, and if you actually read the lyric, Bono is referring to Vertigo as a place, a club, where he thinks he should be having this great time, but feels like killing him self, a great feeling of anxiety....try not to take things so literally anymore Anna, maybe you could understand the meanings of songs better then, and your input would actually mean something on a site that is ultimately, really, about, ah, song meaning.

Viro, what are you on about, where is your back up for that....honestly, it makes no sense ,middle classes???, what the hell did you pull that one out off, that was just...stupid.

Oh come on, U2 are pure dad-rock. A truly great artist/band should always be fighting for respect. For these guys, a new album is just an excuse to have their egos massaged by glossy magazine reviewers. And that whole thing with Negativland was a joke, too (N.B. I'm not a Negativland fan).

This song to me seems as if bono is in a point of his life, where hes in this place he descirbes vertigo, a form of emotional being. He sees how bad the world is curropt how much hatred there is but through all of the bad he sees what is described as a woman, has a cross around her neck, a symbol, the only symbol bono sees of peace and love. Shes the only one he can focus on, he is amazed how he can see only hear, mean while everything else is a mess

Picture This. The year is 2004, when world is dominated by black cheap trash rap and white crach pop. But somehow U2 managed to sell almost a million copies of their new album on the first week of its release. Can you explain that? Easy, good rock and roll still sell. Not like cheap Korn album or Red Hot Chili Pepers greatest hits. I´m talking about real music. You can´t argue with success, U2 are a band for the masses, not for some 40 year oldies who like 80´s music. Period

"Oh come on, U2 are pure dad-rock."

Hey Viro, I bought U2's first record when I was 18 in 1980. When were you born? I think the point you miss is I challenge anyone to come up with a list of acts that can still write good material, let alone still be together or even alive.

I've found tremendous value and satisfaction having my favorite band since I was 18 still around and still kicking ass. All of us have grown up, gotten married (a few times), had children, failures, tragedies, joys, frustrations and they can still communicate that.

I don't have to put down the more recent bands for mine to look better. I also don't know of many acts in the last ten years that have sustainability, survivability, and relevancy.

Most satisfying of this long journey was when I brought bands like U2, Police, Talking Heads to my friends and they thought I was nuts, listening to this 'punk crap'. History repeats.

Ok Viro, why should a truly great band always be fighting for respect???, if they were truly great they wouldnt constatly need to be fighting for respect, they'd always have that respect. U2 25 years on and still rocking with newer sounding material than bands that have emerged in the last five years.

Because it's a sad fact that the public is generally not interested in anything groundbreaking. Look at the charts, everything there has been done before. There are bands like Sigur Ros, who are perhaps the most well respected post-rockish group since Sonic Youth, who receive virtually no chart success or airplay (I think they suck anyway, as it happens). Can you honestly say that every time U2 release a new album it challenges how people think about music? For Christ's sake, they could record Bono and The Edge's farts, release it and STILL make a stash. I wouldn't put it past some magazines to even call it album of the year.

Why does every new album have to be ground breaking??, U2 is always going to sound like U2 despite what they do, be it dance music to R'n'b based. Just because U2 are mainstream doesnt make them sh*t pop, or unorignal, and i honestly wasnt saying everytime u2 release a new album it challenges the way you look at music, i dont want it to be that way, i like to listen to u2 because i can relate to there songs, because they i love there music, and i can relax to it, i dont want music that im going to constantly sit there thinking about so much that i cant relax or enjoy it, and isnt that just what its about, entertainment and enjoyment.

Well just listen to the same album over and over then. There are plenty of artists who would love dearly to challenge you with their music.

It depends how challenged you want to be. I try and spend a couple of months exploring a musical genre, regardless of my initial feeling towards it, and usually end up with at least a few bands I really like. So hell, I dunno, go listen to some Merzbow, or Controlled Bleeding, for a good example of "is it art or is it noise", then try Kid606 for some non-conformist IDM, before finishing the day with some Burzum or Mayhem.

Maybe we just got your picture and clip it on a stack of old papers and claim it as THE DUMB OF THE YEAR. That would fit perfectly fair, thinking we got so many smart talk about this great band, but not you. Talking about a copycat band like Sigur Ros, who copied even videos from Weird Al Yankovick. Can`t you see that Untitled 1´s video is a ripoff from 1987 Weird Al´s "Christmas Song" You will never say anything relevant enough to make a true statement ´bout music. You amateur.
