    I'm a 22 year old guy and I'm not ashamed to admit this song brings me to tears. Reminds me of all my loved ones that have passed. Beautiful song.

    I believe this song is wrote about Mark Tremonti's mother who passed away from cancer. This song definetly talks about how much of an impact someone has on someong else's life and how they still make an impact on our life even when they are gone.

    WOW!

    While I'm pretty familiar with the Blackbird album, I just got my hands on this one a few days ago.

    So I was driving on my way to school, listening to the album all the way through. I was enjoying all the songs, and then this one came on.

    Halfway through this song, I'm driving down the highway in tears. I remembered the backstory my brother told me about it being about Mark Tremonti losing his mom, and that got me thinking of how it'd feel to lose mine, and it just really got to me.

    I can't wait for the new album! I have every bit of faith that they'll keep up the good work.

    Yeah i agree with 'sting06' - this song is about someone passing away. I guess it could also be seen by some people as about someone they love who just isnt around anymore, not necasserily because of death. Its a real nice song wiht great lyrics.

    this song would mean a lot to anyone that has lost someone because yes he lost his mother and they did a great job of showing the pain in the song its so powerful..right from the heart ..touches my heart every time!

    This song is probably one of my favorite songs. I think, personally, that it is Alter Bridge's best song. It's so heartfelt -- NOW I know who it's dedicated to. I know someone had passed away, but I wasn't sure who it was . . .

    My Interpretation

    This song was written about one of the band member's mother who passed away, but could definitely relate to the death of a loved one for anyone. The singer talks about how much he misses her, yet is thankful for the love she gave him throughout his life. He is struggling to cope without her presence but takes comfort that her presence will always remain within himself.

    I lost my wife to cancer 2 months ago. After 36 wonderful years together. Now nothing is the same. I miss her so much. I still can't believe she's gone. Listening to this song and reading your comments as I lie here wide awake in the middle of the night in our empty bedroom. Full of stuff but empty, empty as I feel. The song and your comments somehow help.

The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
