Lyrics for Omerta as interpreted by jc6md

Omerta Lyrics
Broken the paradigm an example must be set
Invoke the siren's song and sign the death warrant
This what has been wrought for 30 pieces of silver
The tongues of men and angels bought by a beloved betrayer

I am the result, what's better left unspoken
Violence begins to mend what's broken
You've been talking, I've been all ears

Words meant to dwell in darkness shall never see the light of day
Words can be broken, so can bones
Execute the mandate
Mouth full of dirt, your name removed from the registry
St. Peter greets with empty eyes then turns and locks the gates

I am the result, what's better left unspoken
Violence begins to mend what was broken
You've been talking, I've been all ears

Omerta

Cheaply venal, stupidly verbose
A slip of the tongue, a slit of the throat
Six feet under with no marker
Keep my name from your mouth forever
Free speech for the living, dead men tell no tales
Your laughing finger will never point again

Omerta
Sing for me now.

I think this is one of the most dark song ever.
The line "St. Peter greets with empty eyes then turns and locks the gates" sends a chill down my spine.

It's obviously about Judas Iscariot.

The reason for the name is explained in the line; "Keep my name from your mouth forever", like the term 'Judas' has become a type of curse word.
Omerta is the code of silence about criminal acts.

Wrong!
The speech in the beginning explains it all. The song does refer to Judas, but its actually about the consequences of breaking the Mafia code of silence, Omerta.

No, it really isn't about that the mafia code, in anything other than the name.

The speach at the start is just a cool intro. It really has little meaning other than the idea that if you are going to fuck with someone, you had better kill them, cause anything less, will just make them angry and they will come back at you, twice as hard.

The lyrics are obviously about Judas Iscariot, and the way his name has become synonamous(sp), with betrayal.

Every line is an obvious referance to the story of Judas.

"you've been talking, I've been all ears" is about how dispite all that he had seen and heard, he still chose greed over Jesus' love.

"Words meant to dwell in darkness shall never see the light of day", is kind of the same as the previous quote, it just makes the point, that Jesus's words ultimatly counted for nothing to Judas.

"Execute the mandate", I believe is in referance, to the speach Jesus gave, about how 'it would be better for the one who betrayes me, if he had never been born', and this is Judas saying, fair enough, if thats the way it has to be, then so be it...

"I am the result, what's better left unspoken" talks about how despite all the good that came from Jesus' words, there was still the 'bad apple' in the bunch, but we prefer to forget about him.

(my personal, favorite line in the song):
"Mouth full of dirt, your name removed from the registry, St. Peter greets with empty eyes then turns and locks the gates" - Judas was buried in an unmarked grave (hense the 'mouth full of dirt' and the other line "six feet under with no marker") and because he killed himself, he was eternally damned.

There is nothing in this song, other than the title and possibly the line "six feet under with no marker", to suggest that this song is actually about the code of silence.

The beginning is a butchered up excerpt from "The Rise and Fall of the Cleveland Mafia."

I think this song is about the code of silence. It uses religious examples though. It really could go both ways.

I can see why some people relate it to Judas though the last stanza:
"Cheaply venal, stupidly verbose
A slip of the tongue, a slit of the throat
Six feet under with no marker
Keep my name from your mouth forever
Free speech for the living, dead men tell no tales
Your laughing finger will never point again"

Doesn'r fit in though can relate to Omerta the Mafia code of silence as can the rest of the song.

This is all interesting but any idea why Lamb of God would be singing about a story from the bible. Whats the theme?

Any reason why they wouldn't?
The story of Judas and the notion that he chose to betray his friend for cash is probably the darkest idea, expressed in the bible and therefore, perfect subject matter for a band like Lamb of God.

It is about the mafia code. The intro is taken directly from it. The actual code is really long though.

I think i missed something, last time i checked omerta(now there is a huge possibility im wrong here) was this: A rule or code that prohibits speaking or divulging information about certain activities, especially the activities of a criminal organization:(Taken strait from dictionary.com) So, maybe it has nothing to do with the mafia, maybe it shows judas as being Criminal towards jesus for selling him out.....just my thoughts! =-)-=

Mafia. It's what happens if you break the code of silence, Omerta. "A slip of the tongue, a slit of the throat"? Words can be broken so can bones? Someone rats, someone dies.

It's the mafia code. How stupid can you people be? Ok if the song seems to be ABOUT the mafia code...and its NAMED AFTER IT...then...oh by the way the begining speech its whoever knows about something and tells the cops about it, as the law requires, they're either stupid or they're scared of the athourities finding out. who ever goes crazy without following this law is both scared and stupid. your gonna kill me? well if i die then let it be forgotten.

annnd the song...is so obviously about OMERTA! the mafia code for death to anyone who speaks of this event whatever it may be. the lines make it obvious. i mean...A slip of the tongue a slip of the throat? That's so obvious! Accidentally blurt it out and ur dead. see? it works. six feet under with no marker, bury you without a gravestone, no one will know. omerta.

It's pretty obvious this is about Judas.. everything correlates and the beginning speech reflects such.

30 peices of silver? Judas sold Jesus out for that much.

St. Peter? Judas was buried in an unmarked grave like what was said above.

Personally I think Randy liked the beginning blurb or texts which included it so used it.

Omerta is also I think more of a reference to killing the Truth. We always kill those who bring out what we know to be eternal truths, be it Jesus, JFK, Martin Luther King. It's kind of like the line "Smite the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered."

"whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward, whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both for a wounded man shall say to his assailant if I live I will kill you,If I die you are forgiven, such is the rule of honor"I agree with soap on this one,but this quote to me means kill or be killed but only when you need to

The opening speech.

Whoever snitches a fellow family member is either scared of that family member, or is just plain stupid. If you cannot take care of yourself without the law, then you don't deserve to have the honor of being in the family.

If the guy dies because of the snitch, the snitch is lucky. If the guy survives, the snitch is going down.

Pretty much as it has always been, I guess. Great song.

Whoa, this is pretty fucked up.

The beginning speech has to do with actual laws.

"Whom ever appeals to the law against their fellow man is either a fool or a coward."

This sugggests that the laws that we have in place are for nothing. Men, people rather, are animals and no matter how many rules you put in front of us, we will break them. This is saying that we should, that we should go back to the way of the animals. An eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth.

"Whom ever cannot survive without that rule, is both."

This refers to that if you need the system of laws and Government in order to survive, you ae both a fool for following the rules and not getting what's yours, and a coward for not carrying out your animalistic plans to get what's yours. Picture a lion on the prowl, he has the perfect chance to get a prize catch, and he doesn't. He is labeled a fool for not taking the chance and a coward for not doing it.

The rest is self-explanatory.

I kinda have a different perspective on this song. In the opening speech, Judas is pictured as the 'assailant' and Jesus is the 'wounded man'. Judas is the one that appealed to the law (or romans... whatever) to betray Jesus. The speech then says (from Jesus' perspective) "If I live, I will kill you". Given the fact that Jesus supposedly rose again etc. and now is 'alive' in heaven... acording to the speech, Jesus has to get revenge on Judas, yes?

The rest of the lyrics are then all about Jesus getting 'revenge', causing Judas being subject to eternal damnation, and being locked out of heaven by St. Peter, etc.

sorry to anybody that said this already i read the first two ideas and i completely dissagree...the intro speech "Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of themself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, 'If I live, I will kill you. If I die, You are forgiven.' Such is the rule of honour." and the meaning of the word omerta "a code of silence usually in regards to criminal activity" I think randy is saying we shouldnt need the police or government for that matter we as man should be able to take care of ourselves (intro speech) and the rest of the song is basically about having honour and not snitching to the pig and how bad it can be to do so..."words can be broken so can bones" reminicent of the mafia to me anyway...sorry i didnt completely break the song down but read my opinion then read the lyrics again and keep in mind the into speech then tell me what you guys think i could be wrong im not randy and i dont personally know him so your guess is as good as mine but i think some people are digging too deep as far as the religion shit goes not this song anyway...lamb of god are the fucking kings of metal..pure american fucking metal..
