Suffering from something we're not sure of
In a world there is no cure for
These lives we live test negative for happiness
Flat line, no pulse, but eyes open
Single file like soldiers on a mission
If there's no war outside our heads
Why are we losing?

[Chorus: Repeat 2X]
I don't ask for much
Truth be told I'd settle
For a life less frightening, a life less frightening

Hang me out to dry I'm soaking
With the sense of knowing
What's gone wrong but doing nothing I still run
Time again I have found myself stuttering
Foundations pulled out from under me
This breath is wasted on them all
Will someone answer me

[Chorus]

Is there a God tonight?
Up in the sky or is it empty just like me (Just like me)
A place where we can hide out from the night
Where you are all I need (Where you are all I need)
So all he says, goodbye, and close your eyes
Tell me what you say (Tell me what you say)
A life I sit inside this dream of mine
Where you are all I see

[Chorus]

General Comment:It's about being to afraid of whats going on to in life to live it and you just want a life where theres none of this crap like population, war, ect.

General Comment:Great song. I love the songs idea of not asking for a perfect world on this downward spiral to dystopia but for something more managable. It makes me almost sad to see this song in the light that we have people begging for a "life less frightening" because war is everything with seem to live for.

"Flat line, no pulse, but eyes open" is the line that really shows that people are too scared to act. They see everything but don't have a life to do anything with and they don't have a life because all they say is slowly dying and is slowly turning to a life that is a world run by fear. We criticize th Nazis for what they tried to do but we're all just Nazis these days, just more subtle. The good people never get a chance and this song is a great sign of that it's marvelous and catchy too.

I'd also like to point out that Rise Against Basslines are really well done.

General Comment:This is one of the greatest quotes ever:

"If there's no war outside our heads
    Why are we losing?"

It's so ironic... it just owns.

PS bri-guy, Billy Talent are nowhere near as good as Rise. In - the - least.

General Comment:This song is so F-ing awesome. this and 'Prayer of the Refugee' are my favorite Rise Against songs.

I think that all of Rise Against's songs have alot of deep meaning and this one is about a life that is not very good for some reason and he wants it to get better. lol i kno its prob pretty obvious but thats just what i think.

IF YOU LIKE RISE AGAINST I RECOMMEND "BILLY TALENT". they are my favorite band and they do alot of 'yelling' type singing like Rise Against. I would really recommend any of their music i love all their songs but if u feel like giving them a chance listen to 'Try Honestly'. then if u like that just keep listening theyre great.

General Comment:What do you mean by main verse? if you mean chorus...(the repeated one) the backing singer just keeps singing "life less frightnening" otherwise i can't hear anything else.

Anyway. I like to think of this song as a prayer. i never prayed much as a child but if i did i never asked for material things, it was always things like having a particular mind set like no fear or happiness. which is what this song is sayin.

Soaking with sins of knowing is such a classic line for everyone. we feel guilty that we don't help good causes. maybe we should be hung.

The God verse is the main prayer part. it could be seen as a conversation with God. Especially since it says "he". if it said "she" it'd be to a lover. God is filling his mind with fearless purity. Even after is existence was questioned.

This is one of the songs that got me liking this magnificent bunch.
