Lyrics for Are We the Waiting? as interpreted by animated456

Are We the Waiting? Lyrics
Starry nights city lights
Coming down over me
Skyscrapers and stargazers
In my head
Are we we are, Are we we are
The waiting unknown
This dirty town was burning down in my dreams
Lost and found city bound in my dreams

And screaming
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting
And screaming
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting

Forget me nots and second thoughts
Live in isolation
Heads or tails and fairytales in my mind
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting unknown
The rage and love, the story of my life
The Jesus of suburbia is a lie
And screaming

And screaming
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting
And screaming
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting
And screaming
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting
And screaming
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting
Ohh..
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting
Ohh..
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting

this song kinda reminds me of 70's music and a bunch of people with lighters waving them about above their heads. good song though

Dated: Easter Sunday

The day Jesus rose from the (city of the) dead ... and found new life in St. Jimmy. The day he decided he was sick of doing what he was told because no reward was coming despite being very patient and waiting so very long. "Are we? We are." is an epiphany.

...And patience is only a virtue if someone APPRECIATES you waiting. Otherwise, you're an idiot.

This song is the transformation of the Jesus of Suburbia to St. Jimmy. Great song.

I think this song is a collective shout of all the Jesus' of Suburbia. All of them are shouting, wanting to know what they are waiting for. Its really the lament of all of us, espcially the current generation. We have nothing to live of die for. Thats why the song "St. Jimmy" directly follows this song. Jimmy is the savior. He's come to save the jesus' from themselves. He's come to wake up the population, to tell them that life could be better than this.

The album "American Idiot" is the story of one man. 'Jesus of Suburbia" and 'St. Jimmy' are two different sides of one person.

I love how this song just asks this one simple question. It makes me feel so calm and at peace. I feel like I'm flying.

No, I did not just do pot!

Why dosn't the person just be St. Jimmy or The jesus of Surburbia? It is kinda annoying. [The schizo]

I LOVE this song my favourite out of GreenDay

St. Jimmy and Jesus are one and the same eh?

Wonder how they tackle that one if they make a movie...perhaps a Fight Club style take on it.

I never thought they were the same, I always assumed that St. Jimmy was a different person who livened up Jesus' depressing life

One thing about the whole plot of the song... I looked at the lyrics to part four of homecoming... if everyone thinks that jesus of sub. and st. jimmy is the same person, then y does it say " i got a kid in newyork, i got a kid in the bay"? if you read the lyrics to part one of the song then you will see that st. jimmy "shot his brains out in the bay". I think that the jesus of suburbia is the one in newyork. The album is so confusing to me. If someone else is thinking the same way as me, please post.

I wish one of the guys in greenday would tell us the whole meaning of the album.
