Lyrics for Holiday as interpreted by Biznoice

Holiday Lyrics
(Say hey!)

Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon flame
The shame
The ones who died without a name

Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called Faith and Misery (Hey!)
And bleed, the company lost the war today!

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On Holiday!

Hear the drum pounding out of time
Another protestor has crossed the line (Hey!)
To find, the money's on the other side

Can I get another Amen? (Amen!)
There's a flag wrapped around a score of men *Hey!)
A gag, a plastic bag on a monument

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest our lives
On Holiday!

(Hey!)
(Say hey!)

(The representative from California has the floor"

Zieg Heil to the president gasman
Bombs away is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel towers
Who critiscize your government
Bang bang goes the broken glass and
Kill all the fags that don't agree
Trials by fire, setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me
Just cause, just cause because we're outlaws yeah!

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives ...

This is our lives on holiday!

And jshiscool troops don't want to go fight they do it because it is their duty. Our military is their to protect us, and the people that attacked us was Al Qaeda if anyone seemed to forget since Bush since 2002 hasn't mentioned Bin Laden. Bush was hell bent on invading Iraq since he entered office in 2000. He would do anything he could to mislead the American public to join the war bandwagon. And look where colin powell is now? Right... The only intelligent voice in the administration is now out of a job. War is a last resort, and Iraq was hardly a threat. When Bush is making jokes by looking under his chair for weapons of mass destruction as our troops are dying it's hardly funny. His words on supporting our military is lip service like every politician who is a neoconservative. Actions speak louder than words Mr. President. You support the troops by supplying them with what they need to get the job done. Regardless of how much he has mishandled the occupation of Iraq our troops have almost got the country under control. The praise goes to them and our generation of fighting men and women. Bush should have been held accountable for his lies and incompetence but as a nation we have praised him by reelecting him. You want politicians to be accountable we need to start looking for transparency of government and not clapping at every word and getting down on our knees every time he walks into a room. He's not the king... He's a citizen who is the leader of our great nation. Let's not let one man ruin our country.

Hendrix:

>The muslims that are trying to kill us (which is a VERY little percent of them) are not trying to kill us because we invaded their country, they attacked us first (remember 9/11?).

Yes I do. Hussein was not among them. He was barely even a Muslim, for fuck's sake! His whole career has been dedicated to SECULAR rule. The fact that I have to explain something this elementary says a lot about the state of political awareness in this country.

>Also, if the war is so pointless than why do 90% [of the military] support Bush.

I disbelieve this and would like you to cite a source.

>I guess we shouldn't listen to their opinion, after all they are the ones over there that actually see what's going on.

People who go into the military usually don't do it because they have a lot going on upstairs, if you know what I mean. But even aside from that, the fact that they are serving DOES make their opinion worth less: after all, if someone is shooting at you, that is what you are going to think about, not the intricate points of how the war started. But the rest of us DO have a duty to examine such things.

>And, as I recall, all the polls taken in Iraq showed that a great majority of Iraqi citezens liked Bush, I don't remember the Polish citezens liking Hitler all that much.

There's a lot you don't remember. Most Poles didn't like Hitler, but quite a few thought him better than Stalin and collaborated with him--just like some Iraqis hated Hussein so much they are willing to cooperate with an occupation. That doesn't prove much. And whether Bush is liked by the majority in Iraq or not--which I doubt--the polls also clearly state that the majority wants us to leave the country now, or yesterday if possible.

Great song, I really like it, and the lyrics are well written.

"Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon flame (Hey!)"
Referring to bombs dropping from the sky, like falling rain.

"The ones who die without a name"
Soldiers and innocent people dieing from war.

"I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies"
He disagrees with the whole stance on the war in Iraq

"On holiday"
Anyone remember where Mr Bush was during the war in Iraq? Thats your reason for this line.

"A gag, A plastic bag on a monument"
Covering up what you see before your eyes, hiding the truth.

"Zeig Heil to the president gasman"
Comparing Bush to Hitler or Stalin.

"Pulverize the Eiffel towers
Who criticize your government"
To those who criticize the USA, they will take away your figureheads.

I hate songs like this solely for the reason that it gets people fighting. I like green day casually and actually think holiday is a very well written piece of music. My political mindset is that, well, they're almost all assholes and out to get more power and money so its no use being staunchly one party or another.
But back to why I hate songs like this. Play it once, and nobody cares about the music--there's an immediate air of political tension, right squaring off against left with us political cynics in the middle of it all.
But then, if i dont like it, i should just not listen to it.
Overall, i'd rate this song good if used sparingly (somebody said something about a repetitive riff...that's good in small doses). I just hope Green Day gets another album out soon so people stop fighting.

oh yea, and i think there should be a correction to the line
"Triumph by fires, setting fire
It's not a way that's meant for me
Just cause
Just cuz we're on holiday "

i think it should be " Just cause; just cause because we're outlaws, YEA!"

i could be wrong though the music kinda drowns that line out

runninonbrains, your right about the line being outlaws. Even though the song has a lot of political ties to it, i still think its a pretty good song and a contender for the best on the album (with Jesus Of Suburbia & Homecoming)

it sounds something like "three, four" but I can't be too sure. Also, i think it's a little weird they released this after Boulevard Of Broken Dreams as the video for Holiday leads into BOBD.

If they make Are We The Waiting, it would make sense to link it to St. Jimmy, seeing as Are We The Waiting cuts off abruptly before St. Jimmy starts. So i can't see them releasing Are We The Waiting unless they release St. Jimmy as well.

I Find this incredibly sad. I read this whole entire thread, (now THAT is sad) and what I mostly, (I said mostly) find is that people are idiotic.
I wasn't even a member of this site until I felt so compelled by this thread, that I had to join so I can comment on this issue. Let me first say a few things:
I like Green Day, but I don't like them too much anymore (I still think Dookie was the best). I'm not saying they "sold out," and I'm not saying they "suck" or anything of that matter. I am just so sick and tired of hearing every musician in America bitch and moan about the Bush administration in their music. News flash guys; when I listen to music, I want to ESCAPE the political crap. That goes both ways as well. I am a Bush supporter, but even if there was some sort of band that supported Bush (they would never get a record contract anyway) I would still tire of having their message JAMMED down my throat. You people want to bitch about Bush brainwashing; well pull your heads out of your asses because your "favorite band" does the most brainwashing? Not to mention they are extremely overplayed on the damn radio.

Another topic which has been beaten like a deadhorse. I see jackasses on this board state "Bush=Hitler" What a F*cking Joke. I'm assuming anyone who has said that has the education of a sheltered third grader. I don't even take those comments seriously because they are so far out of reason that it makes a dog licking his balls look smarter than the juvenile who wrote it.
Let's go through the facts:
1.Bush is elected by a group of congressman/woman who represent the American people's votes.
2.Someone had said that "the citizens should not have to stand for having a bad leader" (not an exact quote but close enough) Well guess what? The citizens feel that this "bad leader" was good enough for the country since the majority of the country voted for him. (Would you Kerry supporters just GIVE UP on Ohio for god's sake) Now hypothetically, if you, and your plastic shovel-wielding kindergartener colleagues felt the need to, "uprise" against our leaders, then that would be a completely "facist" act(since everyone throws the word around without knowing the meaning, I thought I would too.) because you would be going against what the majority wanted for our country.
While we are on the topic of contradictions and facts, lets list a few more:
1.) The majority of the military does indeed support George W. Bush. Probably not 90% but the majority.
2.) If you are so adament about "taking bad leaders out of power," then what was the problem with taking Saddam Hussein? "But he didn't have anything to do with our country," you say! Well, I believe that S.O.B (who you can compare to Hitler accurately) deserved to be taken out since he was oppressing his people for years, as well as commiting mass genocide.
You know it's funny with you extreme left wing nuts: You preach about stopping war and keeping people from dying, but you apparently advocate the extreme slaughtering of millions of people (and yes it is millions). Let's not forget to mention all the "liberals" who bitched and moaned how we are killing "innocent Iraqis." Where the hell were you the whole time Saddam torturing whoever they pleased?
3.) The damn media is a joke. More than half of you base your opinions on what CNN or John Stewart has to say. Let me tell you something, the Media is Left-Wing. No doubt about it, don't even argue it. The only republican channel is Fox News. When you read the NY Times or whatever, you are basically looking at one side of the picture. You would never hear anything about the good stuff our men and women are doing in Iraq because it would never make the news because the media doesn't want this conflict to seem like a success or a good cause. On a side note: If any of you give me some sort of "fact" based on a Michael Moore film you have watched, go slam your head against a hard metal door right now, because he is the biggest propagandist of them all.

I'm going to stop now because I'm totally losing my train of thought and I am surely digressing. I just needed to vent and express my opinion. This rant does not apply to everyone, and it does not apply to all liberals, just the ignorant people who continue to make stupid comments on message boards because "Billie Joe" and P. Diddy told them too.

Anyways, sorry for any grammatical errors or anything. I am in a rush.

P.S- I always find it hillarious when people write "sorry for the grammer issues" and they always spell grammar incorrectly. (See previous line)

Also, this song can fit into the story of Jesus of Suburbia. It could be that it is in fact Whatsername that is singing this song. If you look at the lyrics to She's A Rebel it states: "She sings the revelation, the dawning of our lives. " Dawning of our lives -> Lyrics within holiday (soz if thats obvious). So whatsername is on 'holiday' and singing this song.

In Letterbomb, at the end she sings "I can't take this place, i'm leavinn it behind." This could mean that she's had enough of this 'holiday' and is going back home leaving Jimmy/Jesus.

So, in fact this song is Whatsername's view on things, before Jesus comes to town off the boulevard of broken dreams.

Well, it's an idea anyway. Any thoughts on it would be welcome. (If Green Day decide someday to produce this as an actual opera/musical then it would certainly answer a lot of questions here)
