Lyrics for Holiday as interpreted by Biznoice

Holiday Lyrics
(Say hey!)

Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon flame
The shame
The ones who died without a name

Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called Faith and Misery (Hey!)
And bleed, the company lost the war today!

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On Holiday!

Hear the drum pounding out of time
Another protestor has crossed the line (Hey!)
To find, the money's on the other side

Can I get another Amen? (Amen!)
There's a flag wrapped around a score of men *Hey!)
A gag, a plastic bag on a monument

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest our lives
On Holiday!

(Hey!)
(Say hey!)

(The representative from California has the floor"

Zieg Heil to the president gasman
Bombs away is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel towers
Who critiscize your government
Bang bang goes the broken glass and
Kill all the fags that don't agree
Trials by fire, setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me
Just cause, just cause because we're outlaws yeah!

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives ...

This is our lives on holiday!

To Culture_of_Fear... "Zeig Heil" means show well-being... or I guess it also could be show welfare. But it's (in my opinion) in reference to Arnold S., since the line before it refers to "the representative from California." But interpret it however you want. :)
To Scattered... Oh, I wouldn't say that I'm the stereotypical punk... I mean, I've only got my ears single pierced and don't have any other bodily piercings/artwork on me. I think being punk is about being independent too. Mostly about being a non-conformist and doing your own thing, right? Which is basically what I do. So yeah... Just filling ya in. :) But it's cool what you said, I like other people's opinions... (most of the time... lol... :D)
A question for everyone.... Um... what exactly is the line "On holiday" refering to? I took it as like the time that the troops are spending over in the warzone area, but I wasn't quite sure... So if someone could fill me in, that'd be sweet. *-*

Yeah, I wish all "punks" were like you, because you do what you think you should do, not what makes you look like a every other punk.

Anyways, I don't know exactly what he means by "On Holiday."

He could be talking about how we spend Veteran's Day praising all these soldiers that don't want to kill or die or fight anymore.

I don't know. I'm listening to Reject. The meaning of this song is so much clearer...

Clture_of_Fear i have no idea whats going on either. "another protestor has crossed th line to fing the moneys on the other side" and "bleed, the company lost the war today" mkes me think they're ranting on about how people give up when they cant take any more and only want to do with anything involed in money. "hear the dogs howlin out of key to hymn call 'faith and misery'" is like the solders stuck in iraq and how they have to fight a war that has nothing to do with us. as for the lines: "theres a flag wraped around a score of men, a gag. a plastic bag on a monument" sounds to me like theres is a larg group of people (a monument) that are ignored. personaly i think no one gives a shit about my opinion. but hey i AM only 14 so why should they? 14-year-olds cant know anything, they dont matter. personaly i think bush is somewhat of a retard. he used a cheat sheet in the debates and he did a really bad job. on the other hand kerry is nothin but a flipin lemming. i HATE lemings. (for thoes who dont know what a leming is its a small mamal that just folloow the heard. you see lemmings are migratory so if a herd of lemings where migrating strait at a cliff and the lemming in the front didnt stop, none of them would stop and they would all plung to they're death). i dont have any particlar political party but i can agree with some of both demarats and republicans and some of the others as well. stereotypical punk is an oxymoron if you ask me. in my opinion, punk is about being yourself and being free to express yourself. (please excuse my spelling if i miss spelled any thing.)

I think this song is about when jesus of suburbia left home in (the song) jesus of suburbia, and in Holiday he's experiencing what he has left his old life to become a part of. Holiday is about how he rebels after he leaves home. It goes into Blvd. of Broken Dreams because once he's stopped enjoying his newfound freedom and fun, he realizes he's left everyone he ever knew behind and for the moment he is alone.

Hey brokenwings, maybe no one listens to you because your grammar is incorrect and you're points make no sense. For example, you said you hated John Kerry because he was a lemming. Then you proceeded to spell the word "lemming" two different ways.

Fruitonpie: I think you're correct, but I'm pretty sure that Holiday takes place during an anti-war rally.

Arbuckle: I haven't seen the video for this song yet, where di you see it?

hey guys,
Well i've been listening to this song alot and i decided to share it with my mom, and her opinion was pretty cool...
she said that when people refer to "holiday" it can mean like vacation, or getting away, and the people are not plugged in because they on are break,...so it makes sense! (to ME anyway)
"I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies, this is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On Holiday"
...The way i interpretate it is that we don't realize whats REALLY going on in the governemnt and the media, etc because we're not plugged in and we just believe mostly of what we hear and read from the media etc, but thats just the way that makes most sense to me! :-)

President Bush has openly declared that the United States will invade any country it pleases, whenever it pleases, and that the opinion of other nations is meaningless. You can rationalize it all day long, but if that is not fascism, there is not such a thing as fascism on earth.

fas·cism Audio pronunciation of "fascism" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (fshzm)
n.

1. often Fascism
1. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
2. A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.
2. Oppressive, dictatorial control.

Wow, that's funny...

I always thought Dictionaries were correct, but evidently
Fascism isn't a form of dictatorship, it's a form of Democracy.

You're a fucking idiot.

If the US was under a Fascist government, there would be no "American Idiot."

Allow me to amend my statement per your objection. It should've read: "If that [Bush's foreign policy] is not fascist, there is not such a thing as fascism on earth."

Better?

So, you're saying we should vote on who we want to go to war with?

Well, considering all the war-craving, blindly-patriotic rednecks that live here, and the whiny, everyone-should-be-comfortable-all-the-time liberals we also have here, we would get absolutely nowhere.

Those are not the only two choices.

And even if they were, yes, there are times when the proper thing to do is to vote to repudiate an administration that has crossed certain lines, even when the alternative is uninspiring or even no improvement at all. Because of our sadly deformed constitution and its presidential system, and the two-party morass that has followed from it, the best we can hope for is to keep rejecting warmongers until aspiring politicians figure out that warmongering is no longer a viable policy.

i like the lyrics to this song. i was quite vocal in my criticisms of 'american idiot', but i think these lyrics are a lot better and more original than the cliches of american idiot.
"I beg to dream and differ..." - i love that.

When did we invade them? They're made that we set foot in their land when we were helping them fight Russia.

>When did we invade them?

That depends which "Muslim insurgents" you were referring to. If you meant the Iraqi resistance, we invaded their country, illegally, on March 19, 2003. Surely you haven't forgotten already?

This could be completely wrong and idiodic...but perhaps the last line "this is our lives on holiday" has something to do with the fact that we have no control over our lives and while in a democracy we should have some say...those who are a part of the minority essentially are stuck on holiday...with no one really caring what they say. ....i also thought that it said "a price tag stuck on a monument" so ...yeah
