Lyrics for Holiday as interpreted by Biznoice

Holiday Lyrics
(Say hey!)

Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon flame
The shame
The ones who died without a name

Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called Faith and Misery (Hey!)
And bleed, the company lost the war today!

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On Holiday!

Hear the drum pounding out of time
Another protestor has crossed the line (Hey!)
To find, the money's on the other side

Can I get another Amen? (Amen!)
There's a flag wrapped around a score of men *Hey!)
A gag, a plastic bag on a monument

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest our lives
On Holiday!

(Hey!)
(Say hey!)

(The representative from California has the floor"

Zieg Heil to the president gasman
Bombs away is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel towers
Who critiscize your government
Bang bang goes the broken glass and
Kill all the fags that don't agree
Trials by fire, setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me
Just cause, just cause because we're outlaws yeah!

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives ...

This is our lives on holiday!

this song is trashing a great nation, the ppl that die every day for the cause of america are also helping the idots in england and foreign contreys. and anti-bush? why be anti-bush? that doesnt help anthing, since you cant change anything for anouther 3 years, you might as well support him and try to work with what you got, now it sounds like alot of intellagent ppl comment on here, why cant you undestand that hating does no good?

I think in today's day and age, it is non conformist to actually have a legit opinion. So many people hear all of the bush bashing and they instantly think that they're gonna join in cause it's against a leader. They hate bush cause it's the cool thing to do. They dont know anything about what they're talking about, they just talk. About the song, i think comparing bush and hitler is wrong. Bush is not intentionally trying to slaughter millions of people. I agree with silly kitty a lot, everybody's saying how bad bush is, when not a year ago, you had a chance to change that. Instead of bitching, which is prolly the main thing that is tearing down this country more than anything, we should try to work together. Terrorists are watching us and laughing at us tear apart our own country, what does that tell you?

Here is my take on some pieces of the song:

Hear the sound of the falling rain - this could be symbolic of soldiers' (rain drops) dying (falling)
Coming down like an Armageddon flame - this event is so tragic that it is appocalyptical in nature
The ones who die without a name - "name" here really means "cause"

Hear the dogs howlin' out of key - "dogs" refers to Republicans justifying (howlin') the war. "out of key" means the writer of the song thinks they are wrong
To a hymn called Faith and Misery - "hymn" here subtly satires the religious base of the Republican party. They have "Faith" in Bush, but is causes them Misery (deaths of children in Iraq)
And plead, the company lost the war today - again referring to the Republican party

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies - "hollow lies" referring to absence of WMD's despite Bush's statements
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives - this is the most important part of the song. "dawning" refers to an awakening or new generation that will bring peace, but...
On holiday - the promise of peace is being put on holiday by an injust war

Hear the drum pounding out of time - again musical ineptitude means corrupt in this song. This most likely refers to the percieved overbearing power of the Republicans on people against the war
Another protestor has crossed the line - this does not refer to John Kerry as I have seen others state. John Kerry supports the war but belives it was mismanaged. This means an anti-war person has said something that offended Republicans
To find, the money's on the other side - the writer thinks Republicans have all the money

Can I get another Amen - possibly another satirical reference to the religiousity of Republicans. It could also be defining the audience of the song as being anti-war
There's a flag wrapped around the score of men - the "flag" is the US flag, a symbol of freedom, it is ironically constricting this group of people (Iraq)
A gag, A plastic bag on a monument - monument refers to the statue of Sadam Hussein that was torn down. The US flag was draped over the face as it fell. Again the writer is using this symbol of freedom in an ironic way. It is suffocating like a "plastic bag" or a "gag"

I support Bush and I support the war!!! I hope all the faggots that don't understand the war move out the country. America would be a better place without you. Too bad these American Idiots, aka Green Day, have the ability to warp the minds of its followers. Lets let Saddam hit america like bin laden, and then we will see if retaliating is ok then. Have you forgotten about the WTC?? Saddam would do the same damn thing to us if we would have let him. Too bad Green Day is so disrespectful with the Hitler references. I only hope that these band members can be treated like Hitler treated those who were killed. Maybe Green Day wouldn't think it was so cute and comical them. Green Day - you are dickheads. If you don't American and bush then leave. Move to a better country.
The proud wife of a proud AMERICAN soldier.
Why didn't the terrorists hit hollywood instead and make this world a better place? WHY????

I'm not to sure what the song means..I think what you guys are saying is making some sense. But anyways, the lyrics are wrong in some places.

'Ashamed
The ones who die without a name'

It should be..

'The shame
The ones who die without a name'

Annnd here..

'Just cause
Just cuz we're on holiday'

should be..

'Just 'cause
Just 'cause because we're outlaws yeah'

Yeah that's all I have to say..

are you people deaf or blind? this song and blvd or broken dreams are closely related. if you listen to the two songs together, the end guitar note ties into blvd. and in the videos, the band is in the same car. the songs are related.

Well, this song has many different sides. It may be anti-Bush. But Bush has done what he thought was right. Now, 4 years later, if he had the information taht he had now, do you really think that he would of ordered those "Companies of Men" and order them into a shitty country like Iraq? No. I don't. If you can look back into your memories, Post 9-11 America was strong, wanting revenge on those who killed all those inncoent 3,000 people. Now you all complain about the Conflict. Obviously they think the French are pussies because they want to "Pulverize the Effiel Tower". obviouslt they are paying tribute to the fallen soldiers because there is a "flag wrapped around a score of men" ie, an American Flag draped over a casket of a member of the military. "Kill all the fags that don't agree" ie. kill all the terrorists that attack our troops for not agreeing with us when Saddam surrendured. Bush is not a bad man. He is not ordering the gassing of millions of his own people. And Bush hasn't delcared war on Poland, invaded Russia, attacked France, or Bombed the UK. Therefore Bush IS NOT HITLER Damnit. The protesters and the plastic bag on the monument is saying that we live under a dictatorship where protesting is illegal. I still lack to see a massive organized anti-war protest. The last one was probably dring Vietnam. Vietnam only happened because the US was the Commie slayer. Holiday may be an Anit-War or Anti-Bush song, but the fact of the matter is that neither need be exsist. The troops need our support by cheering them on and backing them and our cause. The President needs our support. The Conflict in Iraq is Not a war. There was no declaration of war. Therefore the "Company lost the war today" Never happened. So there.

This is still a good song, don't get me wrong, just their ideas are a little off that's all.

Comparing Bush to Hitler is ridiculous because by making such a comparison they lessen the cruelties of Hitler. This has a great beat but I disagree with their (Green Day) political beliefs.

dvrains that really doens't have anything to do with the meaning. From what I've gatherd of these two songs, and I could be wrong this is just my opinion, Holiday is about JoS leaving this town with a whole bunch of people with him and then they just sort of ditch him and leave him alone, though Holiday can also stand alone as a song sort of like American Idiot. Just because one ties into the other has nothing to do with meanings..it just means that one song goes into the other.

>Bush Rox: Lets let Saddam hit america like bin laden, and then we will see if retaliating is ok then. Have you forgotten about the WTC?? Saddam would do the same damn thing to us if we would have let him.

Assuming that to be true, we would've deserved it. We are the ones who were bombing and starving his country for 12 years. Or didn't you know about that?

>The proud wife of a proud AMERICAN soldier.

Your American solider is a worthless piece of mindless refuse. I hope he meets the business end of an IED. There is no sadness for me in the fact that 1,900 chicken-fucking rednecks won't be coming home--one more dead redneck will make no difference.

>Issac1337: Now, 4 years later, if he had the information taht he had now, do you really think that he would of ordered those "Companies of Men" and order them into a shitty country like Iraq?

Yes. He is a religious fanatic and the reasons we were given for the war were pure nonsense.

>The troops need our support by cheering them on and backing them and our cause.

They may need it, but they are not getting it here. It would be better if none of those redneck fools ever returned.

i got the privalege of seeing green day perform live just 4 days ago. they were amazing and likemany before me have said billy joe yells out before the song starts "this song isn't anti-american...it's anti-war".

in response to BushRox above message; you're a very closed minded person. just because someone doesn't believe what you do you wish harm on them? that makes you more like hitler than any Bush reference made in the song. i have a marine in my family, and he totally disagrees with the war. you're blind if you totally agree with the war. our government mislead us into getting into iraq. they were searching for WMDs. never found. but conveintly we just happened to be in the country of saddam hussein, who "Dubya" had it in for due to the attempted murder of his father.

the american government covered up the death of Pat Tillman. they made him seem more heroic. he was a great man and gave up millions of dollars in the NFL to protect his country. but he was cut down by "friendly fire". hmmm nice of our countrymen to shoot our own men down. if you can't tell the difference between an iraqi rebel and Pat Tillman you dont need to be out there with a gun. they government told the public as well as Tillman's own family that he was cut down by iraqis in a heroic fight on a hillside. c'mon now. how can you honestly agree 100% with a government run like that?

i'm not anti-american. i'm not anti-war. i'm anti-bush!

also, watch fahrenheit 9/11 and watch the soldiers who hate it, the parents who have been lied to, and the congressmen who wouldn't sign their kids up for the war. and then ask yourself why?

when i first heard this i immeadiately thought of the treaty of versailles after WWI, which many blame for hitler's uprising. it was called the "hall of lies" by hitler, which was what i thought the line in the chorus was : P plus versailles rhymes with lies...? then theres the hitler references, as in while we think we are doing the right thing now (woodrow wilson's plan at versailles, bush now in iraq) it can end up spawning much worse things (hitler, terrorism nowadays) i could be soooooo off the mark but all jus thoughts from a 15 yr old aussie kid !

I think its a shame that Green Day has to talk about their anti-bush problem in their songs because a lot more people would by their music considering a lot of people like President Bush.

apparently they're doing fine in the market they're in... they've gone platinum & double platinum with this album. i don't think they give a damn if a few bush supporters aren't listening. and come to think of it, for all the criticizing they're doing of this album, that shows...someones listening...

Spam Word...You are right about the lyric errors posted abd "Just cause" is a great line in Holiday by Green day
I believe it refers to Operation Just Cause which attempts to locate and return POW's.
