Lyrics for Holiday as interpreted by Biznoice

Holiday Lyrics
(Say hey!)

Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon flame
The shame
The ones who died without a name

Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called Faith and Misery (Hey!)
And bleed, the company lost the war today!

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On Holiday!

Hear the drum pounding out of time
Another protestor has crossed the line (Hey!)
To find, the money's on the other side

Can I get another Amen? (Amen!)
There's a flag wrapped around a score of men *Hey!)
A gag, a plastic bag on a monument

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest our lives
On Holiday!

(Hey!)
(Say hey!)

(The representative from California has the floor"

Zieg Heil to the president gasman
Bombs away is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel towers
Who critiscize your government
Bang bang goes the broken glass and
Kill all the fags that don't agree
Trials by fire, setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me
Just cause, just cause because we're outlaws yeah!

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives ...

This is our lives on holiday!

I just listened to this song and it is amazing. I was so shocked by their new CD i thought it would be good but i didnt think it would be this good. Obviously protest against the bush administration and its actions i guess "Pulverize the eiffel towers who criticize your government" "kill all the fags that don't agree" absolutely wonderful song

Billie opens this song in concert with "This is a song about Iraq" or something like that.

I think it's decent, but the whole comparing Bush to Hitler is kind of dumb and over-used.

the comparison to hitler isnt overused since ive never really heard anyone use it before...but its not that impressive of a comparison, its cliche without being cliche, if you know what i mean. but this album is interesting...its neither bad nor good, i cant decide yet. its still punk music, but the protest thing is more subtle than most, which is better. green day are still catchy as hell though.

this is my favorite on the cd. green day, as well as many other bands come back from european and asian tours and interviews, and thus expereince the world viewpoint of our government, which is subtly expressed in the song.

But you don't have to be or even know people from foreign countries to know that the American govt. as it stands is questionable at best.

the beginning of the song reminds me somehow of the chili peppers*g+

Dated: April 1st, April Fool's Day.

Our current president is a joke, and a majority of the world knows it. And we have the right to be cynical about it (a la "The Daily Show") because politicians ignore our generation.

The last time the youth of america was organized politically was in the 60s, and though everyone remembers what they stood for, how much did that adminstration offer their ears?

Unfortunately, it becomes another example of being alienated in this country, the constant fight of our hero...

This song and "American Idiot" are horribly out of place in the context of the rest of the album. If the album started with "JoS" and went right into "Blvd of Broken Dreams" the consistency would be fluid.

Instead you start off with an out of place political rant, then jump into the story of JoS where in the end he leaves home. The next logical story point, his walk on the Blvd, is interrupted by another out of place political rant.

I deleted songs 1 & 3 on my iPod, now the album makes a lot more sense.

Good songs 1 & 2 but totally out of place.

He's also made a reference to Kerry in this song with "another protestor crossed the line to find the money's on the other side". Considering Kerry was the leader of VVAW (Viet Nam Vets Against War) in the 70s and is not a politician, that line is obviously aimed at him.

bbzzdd,
I think American Idiot sets the tone for the beginning of the story. It tells you what kinds of world this kid is living and what is going on in the government in his world...which is a parallel of ours.

comparison to hitler overused? thats pretty sad thing to say. very disrespectful to those that died in the holocaust. dont think they want anybody to ever forget. and bush is the closest thing to hitler since nazi germany.

holiday is a great song.

jesus of surburbia is my favorite.

The albums a rock opera. Everything is like it is for a purpose. All the songs cross-reference each other, there's a real deep meaning behind each song and what's it about, and we ain't gonna know that yet. The album has it consistancy and its used to hold it all together.

It's funny how so many people can compare Bush to Hitler, I don't recall Bush trying to commit Genocide or trying to conquer the free world.

davidecoyote, you're so right about damn near every song I've seen so far, but I disagree with the "Daily Show" thing. I think The Daily Show is supposed to bring a lighter side to news, I don't think it's cynical at all.

I heard when they play this live Billie Joe says "this song is abotu iraq". I can see several lines in the song that suggest that... "Ashamed, the ones who died without a name"... and even "theres a flag wrapped around a scroe of men, a gag...plastic bag on a monument"... possibly means taking down all the statues of saddam huesain and "a flag wraped around a score of men" ... probably the spread of a so called democracy, like taking all the people over in iraq and just ruling the place under american ideas and policies... I especially like the part where armstrong pretends to be a congressmen or a representative and denounces bush and his ideas... i think the "pulverize the eiffel towers".. possibly has somthing to do with france doing something a while ago... you know back in the days of freedom fries? and then the chorus ties everyrhing together about why we are over there in the first place... an excuse to invade iraq was the attacks of september 11th and weapons of MD which were not there and there was also no connection of 9/11 to iraq... the goverment led the people of america to believe that we were fighting a war for these reasons and now we are in iraq we MUST prevail now or it will affect our future generations... hence.... "I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies.... this is the dawning of the rest of our lives....." .... On holiday. Maybee im right, maybee im not... let me know! :)

This is an extreme stretch of the imagination, but perhaps Jesus of Suburbia fit in at first, but expressed these views and was absoloutely outcasted(hence Boulevard of Broken Dreams,"I walk a lonely road") Then after waiting for soemone to like the Jesus of Suburbia side of him(Are we the waiting)...he decided to create the St. Jimmy side of himself. And I think the rest may explain itself. I sorta went way beyond this song, but I just believe that this song really DOES fit in with the story. Opinions on my theory, anyone?

not that it makes much of a difference, but there are some corrections to the lyrics posted: Ashamed = A shame, And Plead = And Bleed, Triumph by fire, setting fire = trials by fire, setting fire, Just cause - Just cuz we're on holiday = Justcause - Just cause because we're all outlaws (Yeah!).
"Justcause - Just cause" is one of the better lines in this album

I just saw Green Day in concert 2 days ago and right before they played this song Bille Joe was like this song is against all authority. This song is anti-war. So I guess that's what this song is all about.

i voted and i voted for bush. i dont see this song or this album as muh anti bush as it is anti establishment. i think there is a lot of angst towards both sides. also i think the album is more about the fucked up world of the so called "perfect suburbia" and most of the political statements are on a local level not a national

part of the lyrics above are incorrect.

the line "Just cause
Just cuz we're on holiday"

is "just cause, just cause because we're outlaws, yeah" in the inner sleeve of the CD.

Anti-American? Whats that even supposed to mean? Can anyone clarify that? That, to me, seems like a vacuous statement based on any equally empty concept. Another vacuous phrase you hear a lot is "support the troops" or "i support our troops". What does that mean? How do you support them? If it's just symbolic, then its utterly useless. Its about as useless as "I hug trees" or "unite for peace". What does that do?
