Lyrics for Dreams as interpreted by aliforsale

Dreams Lyrics
All your dreams are over now
And all your wings have fallen down
Oh all your dreams are over now
And all your wings have fallen down
She's just like you
So why keep doing what you do
Why cut a friend
Why cruise that mean lean to an end
You could have heel toed
To another place
You could have peeled slow
To a better face

But your heart can't grieve
For your little dreams
Oh no your heart can't grieve
Not for your little dreams

All your dreams are over now
And all your wings have fallen down
All your dreams are over now
And all your wings have fallen down

Broke trust in two
Now no one's looking out for you
Why keep it cruel
Why waste so much to play the fool

And maybe I'm the fool but I think we'd find
That we could all be so so kind
If you'd just leave your tread mill powertrip behind
Oh leave your treadmill powertrip behind
And maybe it's best that you're so so blind
It's best that your so so blind
Because your heart can't grieve
I know your heart can't grieve

I know your heart can't grieve
What your eyes won't see
But you were my favorite moment
Of our dead century

I know your heart can't grieve
What your eyes won't see
But you were my favorite moment
Of our dead century

But all your dreams are over now
And all your wings have fallen down
Oh all your dreams are over now
And all your wings have fallen down

Oh warfarin' terrapin
Unconfined undesigned
Undersigned bantering
Bartering bellowing
Barracking blundering
Pillaging plundering
Living and lavishing
Hammerings harrowing
Flourishing flattening
Levelling reveling
Wrecking and ravaging
Savoring savaging

Oh warfarrin terrapin
Unconfined undesigned
You've got me worried and wondering

All your dreams are over now
And all your wings have fallen down
All your dreams are over now

What an amazing song. This band doesn't get the recognition it should, it's truly an amazing song, as are all of theirs.

the chorus gives this song a very sad feeling. I always liken it to someone havin no dreams cause they have been maimed in a horrific car accident.

the rapping part is proabbly the best bit in the song.

Oh warfarin' terrapin
Unconfined undesigned
Undersigned bantering
Bartering bellowing
Barracking blundering
Pillaging plundering
Living and lavishing
Hammerings harrowing
Flourishing flattening
Levelling reveling
Wrecking and ravaging

He's pissed at somebody in this song. All his dreams are over cause he's an asshole and ruins everything for himself and he's too stupid to realize it. The best part is, "leave your tread mill power trip behind." Cause, like, if you're on a treadmill, you keep walking, but you don't get anywhere, and that's where his power trip is getting him.

Also, "It's best that your so so blind because your heart can't grieve what your eyes won't see." Pretty amazing.

The song is not about him being pissed at himself hes pissed as some girl that left him because she thought she was better then him. The "treadmill powertirp" is about this chick who has this body because she works out and got confidence from it. "you've got me worried and wondering" means hes scared if there are more people like her out there but wonders if he should be scared at himself for thinking the way he does. It is not so much about love as it is about loss. That chick dumped him hard and fast thats why her "heart cant grieve" he doesnt think she cares at all. The rapping part is all there experences that culminated to the chick leaving him. Poor guy...

This songs seems to speak strongly against current U.S. foreign policy. "She's just like you....why cut a friend" - why act aggresively toward other countries. "Heel-toed to another place" - soldiers marching.

"And maybe I'm the fool but I think we'd find
That we could all be so so kind
If you'd just leave your tread mill powertrip behind
Oh leave your treadmill powertrip behind" - possibly alluding to the need to give negotiations and talks a chance over instant military action. "Treadmill powertrip" conjures images of tanks. The end of the song is full of militaristic and violent images.

Just like to add that I saw these guys live and they were friggin' awesome.

Treadmill powertrip strikes me as a more sophisticated metaphor than a girl with a nice body. I think the point is that the nature of the powertrip is such that it doesn't allow any actual progress, which I believe someone pointed out already.

That does strike me as having political undertones, but the rest of the song makes me think its more about the fundamentals of human nature/interaction that about the war in wherever.

I think it's about being blown off.

What I think is funny is that there are Google Ads for the NordicTrack Treadmill on this page.

Anyway... great band.

On second thought, the lines:

She's just like you
So why keep doing what you do
Why cut a friend
Why cruise that mean lean to an end

... suggests that this song is addressed to someone who has treated a woman badly... maybe even the writer himself.

That last comment does make me think that Tunde is possibly singing about himself and his distaste about his actions, but maybe it is about another person. I don't think it matters though, the song is trying to convey a deeper message than one man's actions, whether it's about Tunde Alimbe or any other specific person is irrelevant to the meaning. If tunde wanted to tell you what he himself was like he'd do so in an interview, though we all have to draw from personal experience.

"Poet's behave impudently towards thier own experiences: They exploit them." Nietzsche - BGE

I think it's about a type of person that fails to see the merits of others and causes them pain.

They're empty, souless, and have given up the sacredness of their humanity and become mindless soldier-types that believe what they do is right, and arrogantly so, but never make any progress.

They trust only in themselves and never allow others to help them, and in doing so waste so much possibility for happiness.

The best line in my opinion is this one:

"It's best that your so so blind
Because your heart can't grieve"

I.e. if you could see what you're doing is wrong then you'd feel intensely guilty: it would only cause you pain.

I was certain that this song was about MLK and his assasination until I read these comments. "...you were my favorite moment
Of our dead century", dreams. Anyone else agree?

yeah, i thought it might be about human interaction too. someone is so sucked into society that they're not even human, they don't dream, they don't have feelings, which are blessings to the human race. i don't know... i like the treadmill powertrip idea that was discussed earlier. like, your powertrip is getting you absolutely nowhere, but you just keep on going on about it... neverending, until you're worn out. and i do hear a political voice in this song. definitely relevant.

You could have peeled slow
To a better face
reference to chemical peels cosmetic surgery?

seems that he's refering to a particularly vain female friend.

also the line
You could have heel toed...

the "heel toe" is a dance move I've seen popular in hip-hop dance circa 2002-2004 era... died out now but eh.

I don't think you should accept that the video will always be an absolute interpretation of the song. Personally, I think the song comments on vanity and the malaise and feelings of detachment that accompany life in a world that places so much emphasis on superficial and/or hedonistic behaviours.
"She's just like you" I think refers to a loss of individuality and rise of conformity to certain media prototypes.
"You could have peeled slow to a better face" and "your tread-mill powertrip" I think supports the notion that he's talking about an appearance-obsessed society.
His incredulity at the moral abandon demonstrated by these personalities can be discerned in the line "why cut a friend".

"All your wings have fallen down" refers to the crestfallen nature of these individuals once the dejection, an inevitable consequence of moral turpitude, kicks in.

I think basically this is a story about the fragility of an existence based on such shallow foundations.

As with any art, this song is open to interpretation. Whatever the artist meant by it, the fact that it can be interpreted so personally is what makes it so powerful.

I've been able to connect with this song on a very personal level, and my interpretation of this song, no matter how accurate, reflects that connection.

I agree it's about a bad break-up, but I don't think that gives it the credit it deserves.

More, it's about someone that's unwilling to grow up. Unwilling to face fear. Someone who needs the power, the security, of irresponsibility (treadmill power trip)

He tries to help her, and fails. She has dreams, and he knows she'll never reach them if she doesn't change. She's driven help away(all your wings have fallen down, now no one's looking out for you).

By staying in this state of irresponsibility, she's hurting the people around her. But she continues to do it. She stays, and causes more and more pain. She hurts him, leaving him bitter. He wishes that she hadn't have involved him, and kept him there so long (why cut a friend, why cruise that mean lean to an end, you could have heel toed, to another place, you could have peeled slow, to a better face). She could have left, before he started to care about her. She could have gone to someone else, someone that might have been able to help her, or someone in the same boat as her.

He still cares about her. If she could just be a little more responsible for herself, they could work. not only that, everyone in her life that cares about her, would stop being so hostile toward her. (That we could all be so so kind, ff you'd just leave your treadmill power trip behind)
Although he still cares for her, he sees that she's capable of hurting those around her, hurting people that she loves, and to feel no guilt or remorse (your heart can't grieve).
she rejects him, precisely because he tries to help her. and although he thinks they could work, he realizes that.. maybe it's best that she's so so blind. maybe it's best that she's unwilling to take his help. someone who's willing to cause so much pain, just to stay irresponsible, like a security blanket, would only hurt him again.

the rap part, is a description of how the relationship went, what happened in it.

overall, he worries about her. he knows she means well, and just wants her to help, instead of hinder, herself, for once.

maybe she needed to reach this state. where there is no one left to help her, no one left to hurt. where there's no way to reach your dreams, before she can actually start getting them. hit rock bottom before you can get up again.

he can't stop caring about her, and will always worry and wonder, about what she's doing with herself.. if she'll ever reach that level of maturity.

Seems like it's about a love/hate relationship between a guy and a girl, who both also happen to hate themselves. So basically in the song he's listing off all the things he hates about the girl and why their relationship failed, but he's also admitting he himself has the same flaws, takes two to tango. The guy is looking back on the failed relationship and he no longer has any hopes and dreams for their future, it's all over, but he also looks back on it as the best time of his life even though it was doomed, aka favorite moment of a dead century.

Brilliant fuckin song like most their stuff. Amazing band, way better live than on cd btw.
