Lyrics for The Futile as interpreted by Mopnugget

The Futile Lyrics
shit! nothing makes sense
so i won’t think about it
i’ll go with the ignorance
eat, sleep, fuck and flee
in four words, that’s me
i am full of indifference
what do the old people teach us
but how to die
die, die, die?
and what do those hissy fits
teach you except how to cry, pussy, cry?

the futile, the futile
it outweighs the beautiful
futile, the futile
it outweighs the beautiful
futile, the futile, the futile, so...

taste, i have no taste
i don’t like these tiny portions
or your artful abortions of sound
sealed with a kiss
slathered in the sauce sarcastic
so go choke on your irony!

what do the old people teach us
but how to die
die, die, die?
what do your hissy fits
teach you except how to cry, pussy, cry?

the futile, the futile
it outweighs the beautiful
futile, the futile
it outweighs the beautiful
futile, the futile, the futile, so...

i’m eating rat poison for dinner
pull the cord from the phone
i am dining alone
tonight, rat poison for dinner
pull the cord from the phone
i am dining alone
so goodnight...

love! i shall not love
yet i’ll still sing about it
hope it covers the ocean in slime
the drama and drool
i’m leaking the blood of a fool
i’m full of it, i’m full of it, i’m full...

eating rat poison for dinner
pull the cord from the phone
tonight, rat poison for dinner
pull the cord from the phone
i am dining alone tonight
oh i am dining alone tonight
tonight, tonight oh yeah

This song is just awesome...Like when you are feeling depressed..it is a good song with good lyrics. I think the song lyrics speak for itself. He is basically saying, "The futile ways out he beautiful"

Mmmm. It makes me happy to have ears.

And I SO agree with the line "What do the old people teach us but how to die?"

Couldn't have said it better myself.

"And I SO agree with the line "What do the old people teach us but how to die?""

Then you missed the point of the song, which you're a target of.

This is my favorite song from "...is a real boy".

It's the apathetic, unbridled truth.

Nobody likes to think of things this way (no matter how much they say they do), but it's the absolute truth.

Kind of sad that a world so full of life could possibly be this dead.

I'm in ethics class right now and we're discussing Singer who says that doing good is its own reward. Right now, doing good seems like something futile to me, because you can't ever help everyone. But the thing is, every endeavor people try to undertake will never come out to the full extent they want it to. The best people can hope for is something close, and to be content with it. When you are content with being close, I think that's what's beautiful. Either that or when you're dead and don't have to care--that seems beautiful.

Some people spend their lives searching for something meaningless, make a big fuss out of it, cry like pussies, be paranoid old people, and die.

I think Max is saying he just doesn't want to be those people.

[amaefm]

the verses are from the perspective of the 'futile', that's the point.

it's about when you feel all these apathetic and bitter feelings and even want death, yet you know all along that it's bullshit to feel those things. but still you feel it because it's what you know. you feel safe there.

"so what is the point then smarty pants?"

Ally hit it. These lyrics are extremely sarcastic("slathered in the sauce sarcastic")... or 'ironic' when the hook("What do they teach us but how to die?") is laced in ignorance of wisdom and learning.

"What do they teach us but how to die?" falls right in line with the brutal mentality of "what do your hissy fits
teach you except how to cry, pussy, cry?"

This is a commentary against the fools who are so wrapped up in themselves that they will not ingest anything foreign. It pushes them to a 'futile survival,' being consumed solely by their wants(eat, sleep, fuck, flee) and ignoring their true needs(healthy nutrition(rat poison), human interaction(dying alone), art(no taste) and emotion(real love, the beautiful, the pussy's hissy fits.))

yeah stopdancego that was pretty good.. just long enough to be credible and short enough to not sound pretentious.. although it kind of seems like max is telling people how to live their lives, you can't really argue with his opinion

This song is pretty much my personality in one. I am overly sarcastic and cynical to people. And I hate people who are not 'futile' persay.

Don't give a FUCK about what ya'll gotta say about it.

I can see why it looks like it is from the perspective of the futile. I disagree. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as a side note, I believe Max is jewish. I may be wrong. either way, I believe (and this may sound a little ludicrous) this song is about Adolf Hitler (told from his perspective). Max references the Holocaust in Alive with the Glory of Love. I believe it is about Hitler because it explains the contempt held against the futile. Hitler killed himself (shooting himself, admittedly, but I wouldn't put eating rat poison past him), as he does in the song. The cynical, degrading nature of the song embodies the personality of Adolf Hitler.
