Lyrics for Woe as interpreted by Mopnugget

Woe Lyrics
all the words in my mouth
that the scene deemed unworthy of letting out
banded together to form a makeshift militia
and burrowed bloodily through my tongue and my teeth
i stood proud in the gallery
with my open socket of a mouth for them to see
they all just laughed and said
"that boy he, that boy's got woe, woe
he lives with woe, woe"

and this girl who i met
whose pride makes her hard to forget
she took pity on me, horizontally
but most likely because of my band

and that's all i can get
when i'm lonely and these
visions of death seem to own me
in the quiet of the classrooms
all across the stacked united states of woe, woe
we live with woe

she said "i can't get laid in this town
without these pointy fucking shoes
my feet are so black and blue, and so are you"

please take me out of my body
up through the palm trees
to smell california in sweet hypocrisy
float in my senses, surround my body
i wake my nose to smell that ocean burn

so now i'm forging ahead
past all the plutocrats
who sold me out
go sob in your bed
if life is twice as pretty
once you're dead
then send me a card
i'm still the optimist, though it is hard
when all you want to be is in a dream

The basis to the entire album. "all the words in my mouth, that the scene deemed unworthy of letting out", this is when the character in the rock opera begins to let his words flow out uncontrolably, and where the story really picks up.

The song partially about a girl who has loveless sex. Thats why the "she said 'i can't get laid in this town/ without these pointy fucking shoes/ my feet are so black and blue, and so are you" part is there. The first time I heard this song was at a dashboard confessional concert and chris carrabba did a cover of some of it right after "Remember to Breathe"

The whole reason why I started listening to this band was because I had heard Chris Carrabba use a line from this song during a concert this summer. I looked up the lyric and it lead me to their website where I found that they were quite awesome themselves.

"i can't get laid in this down without these pointy fucking shoes." --i love, love, love that line. to me, it's just seems like it's laying out what girls have to do to get guys to even notice them - go all out, all the time. and it's really too bad it's like that sometimes.

to me, I see the song as a description of a snap--an eye opening experience. max is finally saying what he wants to say, hence the first verse. The description of the girl is a metaphor for the entire lifestyle of those that she choses to associate with. let's be popular, yet still utterly alone. if she could let go of that and just not care she could eventually find peace, and maybe someone who could see her as an individual, rather than what she is, a prostitute. (of course, I'm speaking figuratively.)

"it's just seems like it's laying out what girls have to do to get guys to even notice them - go all out, all the time. and it's really too bad it's like that sometimes."

have to do? please! this is saying that she DOESN'T have to do anything, but just like in "admit it," this song paints the scene as almost a self-righteous deity. I hate the word scene--I hate that it's used as an adjective, but you have to appeal to your audience, I guess. haha I just thought of this, say anything is like the stereotypical hot girl's asshole boyfriend. Max can say anything he wants, insult and degrade the scene, alienate his fans, and they just KEEP COMING BACK FOR MORE.

"and no like three beatles song such as abbey road, here comes the sun etc. "
abbey road isn't a song. it's an album.
i like the first verse of this song, because it reminds me of that painting called "the scream" by edvard munch.. and the vocals are really amusing, especially when he sings, "she took pity on me, horizontally"..

haha. The Beatles have accomplished more together and apart than you ever will in your entire pathetic life. They invented music. Can you say that about yourself? No.

I think this is saying how in heaven since you're not alive, you're just living a dream, and if all people want to live in is a dream, then they can, but he's going to cherish life as if there is no life after death.

Ye totally agree with skid but don't see this woman as a prostitute, "can't get laid in thsi town without theses pinty fuckin shoes" could be a metaphor for a lot of things, bring your own interepretation to that, but the "get laid" bit, i think getting laid is about being popular. You have to make a lot of sacrifices to be "scene" and not be yourself. i know you wer speaking figuratively, great take though skid. P.S My favourite line "please take me out of my body
up through the palm trees
to smell california in sweet hypocrisy"
Talking about how she would just love to be herself but doesn't want to be unwanted, being hypocritical of other popular people, as she is popular herself. She lives with "WOE".

"They invented music"

sure thing, kid.
ya know, even the most celebrated bands have influences to draw from. the Bs were around to inflict a lot of change in what appealed to music fans everywhere. but, as chapman proved, they were still human.

ok this shouldn't be here... The Beatles did not invent music you ignorant idiot. they were heavily influenced by RnB (proper RnB, not usher you idiot), Motown and many others. They were initially attempting to imitate the Motown acts of their era but of course came up with something unique. That's how music works.

This song, was truly amazing. I loved it, but then again, most all of say anything's (newer) stuff is. They put so plainly what everyone bitches about. kind of like a "FUCK YOUR SCENE" it bugs me when those sort of people listen to this music... it's almost like they don't know that they're degrading them to hell and back.

that verse "so now i'm forging ahead/past all the plutocrats/who sold me out/go sob in your bed/if life is twice as pretty/once you're dead/then send me a card/i'm still the optimist, though it is hard/when all you want to be is in a dream" , gah, its just amazing. especially the way its sung. its like you're just pushing all the people out of the way and its like "whoa". i guess thats a really weird way to articulate it.

the first verse, when everyone is saying "that boys got woe", its like their just brushing it off. like any real emotion is so easily manufactured, no one knows when something true is actually happening. also when its talking about the girl, its like she's saying "i cant do anything without doing something i dont want to" which is really backward, when u think about it.

first off- LOVE this song...especially the end (like most people)
but i had a question about these lies:
i stood proud in the gallery
with my open socket of a mouth for them to see
they all just laughed and said
"that boy he, that boy's got woe, woe
he lives with woe, woe"
--do ya think that his description of his mouth may be reaffering to him in Woe, almost liek total disbelief of something? i meen his jaw i guess is dropped and instead of the people saying hes in utter disbelief, hes got "woe"?

sorry, i was listening to this when i was high, causing me to think farrr tooo deep.
