Lyrics for King Eternal as interpreted by aliforsale

King Eternal Lyrics
All men condemned by men to die
Damned by blind bitch in hallowed halls
Hear it, heed this call:

Oh fucking eternal

Infinity's hourglass will measure all measure all
So, power

Cover your balls
'Cause we swing kung fu

Oh fucking eternal
Oh fucking eternal

Afraid of thunder children, so hide your ears
Hope your fortress holds up for many many many years
Shudder, it's a shame
Lightning, call the game
Send us up a baby boy
Let the smoke carry his name

If it's a girl let her shine

We will be

Oh fucking eternal

The hour of man is nigh
So gather up all supplies
And stack 'em up high
Stack 'em up high

Faith, Nathan I could see it in your eyes
Warmth, Nathan I can see it in your eyes

Golden houses, silver brides
Immortal erection, tongues untied

Oh fucking eternal
Oh fucking

Dont you think its somewhat a jesus-y song? "send us up a baby boy, let the smoke carry his name", makes me think of the birth of jesus. could it be a reference? And in this context, i think the next sentence is charming - "If its a girl let her shine".

I think the song is pretty self-explanatory. "the hour of the man is nigh" - man is really nothing, lives for a minute - and in infinity's hourglass, even less. love this song.

Always saw this song as a statement on corporal punishment. But the thought that Aerial had about it being "jesus-y" is interesting. Especially since Jesus is probably the most famous occurance of corporal punishment in history.

"All men condemned by men to die
Damned by blind bitch in hallowed halls"

It reminds me of the jury ("condemned by men to die") and Lady Justice ("Damned by blind bitch").

"Afraid of thunder children, so hide your ears
Hope your fortress holds up for many many many years
Shudder, it's a shame
Lightning, call the game
Send us up a baby boy
Let the smoke carry his name "

It could be the death by electric chair, though I'm not sure the significance of "Send us up a baby boy, Let the smoke carry his name"... Maybe it means soul with a clean slate, that the smoke from being electrocuded cleanse his sins?

For the rest, your guesses are good as mine.

i think this song's about how man's downfall will be HIMSELF... the song talks about being ETERNAL, IMMORTAL, but his "tongues untied" (knowledge/communication/beliefs) condemn fellow men to die... also it seems to deal some with spirtuality, "let the smoke carry his name" to the baby boy being a sacrafice? but "if it's a girl, let her shine".. i think the song's a lot about pride, pride of being human and being greedy, selfish, stacking up our supplies. wonderful song.

It's about patriarchy in society. Men are driven to be emotionally sterile and essentially 'condemned by men' to die, as it is usually the men who ensure other men don't act warm.

Fear is referenced as a basis of patriarchy(thunder, hide your ears)

Forts, silver brides, golden houses... all references to the almost impossible task given most men to be a king among men, with no call to accept failure or growth.

Emotionally, women are given liberty. "If its a girl, let her shine"
References to eternal and immortality are both an attack on the pride of masculinity but also the power it has over all of us and the likelihood it will continue.

Why has no one questioned the use of the name "Nathan?"

From Wikipedia:

"The Nathan the Prophet was a seer who lived in the time of King David and his wife Bathsheba.

His actions are described in the Books of Samuel, Kings and Chronicles (see especially, 2 Samuel 7:2-17, 12:1-25.) Nathan wrote histories of the reigns of both David and of Solomon (see 1 Chronicles 29:29 and 2 Chronicles 9:29), and was involved in the **music of the temple** (see 2 Chronicles 29:25).

In 1 Kings 1:8-45 it is Nathan who tells the dying David of the plot of Adonijah to become king, resulting in Solomon's being proclaimed king instead.**"

**possibly a reference?

>> Why has no one questioned the use of the name "Nathan?"

I assume that this is a reference to the lyricist's son in my reference to Patriarchy.

"Fucking eternal" must be a play on various Christian hymns (I find the ads on this page most alarming). That rhythmic "We will be" is absolutely uplifting in exactly the way hymns are meant to be and for completely the opposite reason. Fantastic song and the best band I've heard in ages.

"Oh for King Eternal" actually makes a little more sense to me.

"Infinity's hourglass will measure all measure all"

"The hour of man is nigh
So gather up all supplies"

"Faith, Nathan I could see it in your eyes
Warmth, Nathan I can see it in your eyes"

I think this song is more about getting ready for judgment day or individual, the day you meet your maker

"Golden houses, silver brides
Immortal erection, tongues untied"

These are the things (great things) you are award when you enter heaven (who wouldn't love an immortal erection?)

the song is a tribute to Nathan Maddox, who was in the band Gang Gang Dance and was killed by lightning on a Manhattan rooftop in July 2002
