Jesus Of Suburbia Lyrics
[Part I: Jesus of Suburbia ]
I'm the son of rage and love The Jesus of suburbia From the bible of none of the above On a steady diet of Soda pop and Ritalin No one ever died for my sins in hell As far as I can tell At least the ones I got away with But there's nothing wrong with me This is how I'm supposed to be In a land of make believe That don't believe in me Get my television fix Sitting on my crucifix The living room of my private womb While the moms and Brads are away To fall in love and fall in debt To alcohol and cigarettes And Mary Jane to keep me insane And doing someone else's cocaine [Part II: City Of The Damned] At the center of the Earth In the parking lot Of the 7-11 were I was taught The motto was just a lie It says "home is were your heart is" But what a shame Cause everyone's heart Doesn't beat the same We're beating out of time City of the dead At the end of another lost highway Signs misleading to nowhere City of the damned Lost children with dirty faces today No one really seems to care I read the graffiti In the bathroom stall Like the holy scriptures of a shopping mall And so it seemed to confess It didn't say much But it only confirmed that The center of the earth Is the end of the world And I could really care less [Part III: I don't care] I don't care if you don't I don't care if you don't care [x5] Everyone is so full of shit Burn and raised by hipocrites Hearts recycled but never saved From the cradle to the grave We are the kids of war and peace From Anaheim to the middle east We are the stories and disciples Of the Jesus of Suburbia Land of make believe And it don't believe in me Land of make believe And I don't believe And I don't care! [Part IV: Dearly beloved] Dearly beloved are you listening? I can't remember a word that you were saying Are we demented or am I disturbed? The space that's in between insane and insecure Oh therapy, can you please fill the void? Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed? Nobody's perfect and I stand accused For lack of a better word, and that's my best excuse [Part V: Tales of another broken home] To live and not to breathe Is to die in tragedy To run, to run away To find what you believe And I leave behind This hurricane of fucking lies I lost my faith to this This town that don't exist So I run I run away To the light of masochists And I leave behind This hurricane of fucking lies And I walked this line A million and one fucking times But not this time I don't feel any shame I wont apologize When there ain't nowhere you can go Running away from pain When you've been victimized Tales from another broken home

Part 1.Interduces who the JoS is. now obiviously this doesn't snyc up with biblical vaules, The JoS is not reaspected by the religous powers because he isn't very strait and narrow like you'd expect. But the JoS is VERY intelligent and knows more of the 'undergrouned world' that 'bible beaters' choose to ignore and leave to hell.
Part 2. The 7-11 is in the center of the world (hell) JoS has been there. The 'dammed' are the people who are trapped in this 'hell' not by choice and being condemed by Christan morals and value. (every new generation becomes societys scap goat) JoS Is saying to the Christain idealists 'I you care what you think about them, I know them better than you!' JoS sees the good in these outcast people.
part 3. JoS's desciples (the scape goat generation) are fighting back in a sort of protest. One disciple is "what makes us so bad in your eyes look at you, your all hypocrites. JoS is a huge cultural force right now. This attude is I don't care what you think about us.
Part. 4 The oppressive force has lost it's power because the youth generation no longer cares for their opinion. Now they are apolgising to JoS.
Part 5. JoS is saying that the same mistake won't be made again (idealist stuff) and he leaves to break the chain of fucking lies. last line in not sure.
*Panting* damn thats a deep song. I think the song is about polar extremes, hypocrites and unlikly heros becoming idolised as gods.

AI: Main character Jesus of Suburbia is a disillusioned kid who suffers a mental breakdown, runs away from home and goes to a big city.
CitR: Main character Holden Caulfield is a disillusioned kid who suffers a mental breakdown, runs away from his boarding school and goes to a big city.
Anyways if you like American Idiot, go read Catcher in the Rye if you haven't already.

1.Jesus of Suburbia- This is just an introduction to who Jesus is. It talks about how he is doing drugs, leading a horrible life, and sort of well...being punk, I guess. "But there's nothing wrong with me....This is how I'm supposed to be ". Its like he's trying to prove he isnt insane, to make himself feel better.
2. City of the Damned-Going along with the introduction, "City of the Damned" introduces the town. The descriptions really make you feel like you " read the graffiti In the bathroom stall
Like the holy scriptures of a shopping mall". Basically it shows that Jesus is not the only one who has a crappy life.
3. I Dont Care- Jesus lets go a little bit and says "screw you" to everyone. "Everyone is so full of shit ...Born and raised by hipocrites" he says, telling everyone he doesnt care and yet it seems he feels he is the same way.
4. Dearly Beloved- So now, after going crazy for a little bit, Jesus gets more down and "emo-like". He starts thinking once more, "WTF am I doing?" And then he asks "Oh therapy, can you please fill the void?" signifying his confusion. IMO, this is incredibly emotional and the most brilliant part of the song.
5.Tales of Another Broken Home- Jesus is pissed now. He hates his home and everyone in it. He wants to leave, but is nervous as well. Yet he goes on, "I don't feel any shame
I wont apologize
When there ain't nowhere you can go
Running away from pain
When you've been victimized
Tales from another broken home " And in the end he leaves home, still telling himself that he is perfectly fine. Its a weird thing of the mind where he NEEDS to tell himself that he is sane, or he'll just kill himself. So, he leaves...........
Like I said, this is how I see it. It might be similar to what others thing, or not. Either way, I am crazy about Green Day.

After watching Fight Club, I thought it had some things in common with American Idiot.
AI: Jesus of Suburbia copes with life by forming a more confident, rebellious alter ego named St. Jimmy
FC: The main character copes with life by forming a more confident, rebellious alter ego named Tyler Durden.

Everyone on the album has their own track. Jesus of Suburbia basically introduces us to the Jesus of Suburbia, how he was brought up in rage, and love, his atmosphere, friends, and basic general information. Part I, JOS, is just an introduction. "I'm the son of rage and love, the Jesus of Suburbia..."...Part II, City of The Damned, is just a crying out for help, hating his town, his city, and his overall miserable life that he lives. Part III, I Don't Care, is properly named and is about just that. JOS' apathetic screams of pain and how he just doesn't fucking care about anything anymore. Part IV, Dearly Beloved, is JOS asking if what he's feeling is natural, how he can get out, and if anyone can understand...Tales Of Another Broken Home, Part V, is basically the end of the anthem. JOS is fed up, fucked up, and just decides to quit town and quit the life that he's living. "I don't feel any shame, I won't apologize. When there ain't NOWHERE you can go. RUNNING AWAY from pain, when you feel victimized, tales from another broken home"...and he just leaves.
**GDA's overlook of the song
