Lyrics for Jesus Of Suburbia as interpreted by prayingmantis84

Jesus Of Suburbia Lyrics
[Part I: Jesus of Suburbia ]

I'm the son of rage and love
The Jesus of suburbia
From the bible of none of the above
On a steady diet of
Soda pop and Ritalin
No one ever died for my sins in hell
As far as I can tell
At least the ones I got away with

But there's nothing wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed to be
In a land of make believe
That don't believe in me

Get my television fix
Sitting on my crucifix
The living room of my private womb
While the moms and Brads are away
To fall in love and fall in debt
To alcohol and cigarettes
And Mary Jane to keep me insane
And doing someone else's cocaine

[Part II: City Of The Damned]

At the center of the Earth
In the parking lot
Of the 7-11 were I was taught
The motto was just a lie
It says "home is were your heart is"
But what a shame
Cause everyone's heart
Doesn't beat the same
We're beating out of time

City of the dead
At the end of another lost highway
Signs misleading to nowhere
City of the damned
Lost children with dirty faces today
No one really seems to care

I read the graffiti
In the bathroom stall
Like the holy scriptures of a shopping mall
And so it seemed to confess
It didn't say much
But it only confirmed that
The center of the earth
Is the end of the world
And I could really care less

[Part III: I don't care]

I don't care if you don't
I don't care if you don't care [x5]

Everyone is so full of shit
Burn and raised by hipocrites
Hearts recycled but never saved
From the cradle to the grave
We are the kids of war and peace
From Anaheim to the middle east
We are the stories and disciples
Of the Jesus of Suburbia
Land of make believe
And it don't believe in me
Land of make believe
And I don't believe
And I don't care!

[Part IV: Dearly beloved]

Dearly beloved are you listening?
I can't remember a word that you were saying
Are we demented or am I disturbed?
The space that's in between insane and insecure
Oh therapy, can you please fill the void?
Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed?
Nobody's perfect and I stand accused
For lack of a better word, and that's my best excuse

[Part V: Tales of another broken home]

To live and not to breathe
Is to die in tragedy
To run, to run away
To find what you believe
And I leave behind
This hurricane of fucking lies
I lost my faith to this
This town that don't exist

So I run
I run away
To the light of masochists
And I leave behind
This hurricane of fucking lies
And I walked this line
A million and one fucking times
But not this time

I don't feel any shame
I wont apologize

When there ain't nowhere you can go
Running away from pain
When you've been victimized
Tales from another broken home

This song always reminds me of a friend of mine....abused household type deal.

I love the lines "Everyone is so full of shit/Born and raised by hypocrites/Hearts recycled but never saved/From the cradles to the grave". I mean, if you live in a town like I do, filled with arrogant asshole hypocrites, those lines basically define it.

Also the lines "The motto was just a lie/It says "home is were your heart is"/But what a shame/Cause everyone's heart /Doesn't beat the same"
They're so prophetic and so true. I mean, if you grow up in a shithole, that motto really sucks to hear. I love that they say that.

wag, don't forget The Hearts Filthy Lesson and Strangers When We Meet (Both by David Bowie). Bayer did both those vids and they're amazing. I agree, Bayer is the best music video director ever. Him and Floria Sigismondi are amazing.

I live in India & brought up in a totally different culture . But I can c how this video depicts the current youth trend in the western world . It is marathon anthem and changes tempo violently yet gracefully . I can compare it 2 Billy Joel's "Italian Restaurant" which is similar in its contrasting styles within the same song .

by the way everyone, billie joe doesn't do any (or mostly doesn't) of the guitar solos on american idiot (the whole album) it's jason white that is the amazing guitarist. Billie joe is still WAY cool tho

jesus of suburbia, the character, is basically my escape card when I'm feeling so bad that I just want to ditch all my friends and go off somewhere else and never speak to anyone i ever knew again. I get like this after a grl rejects/breaks up with me.....or just anything like that that can make someone want to rebel. very inspiring song

and to musicaholic, the temp stays the same. It's in 4/4 and at 152 bpm. Howeverr you are probably not a musician and that is total jibber jabber to you.

and punk isnt suppose to be a trend...however thats how people see it as. the idea of punk is being yourself while trying to corrupt the system...I take more emphasis is on the being yourself part though^^;;

well, everyone knows that Suburbia is like large houses that cost way too much and have rich people. in Suburbia a lot of drugs and stuff are done and no one suspects it because they are rich and they would never do that. He is the 'Jesus of Suburbia' because he was one of them at one time but he turned his life around and became something and now people in his situation follow his example.

i hope that clears things up.

they're just continuing to develop-they can't play the same songs as they did 17 years ago because they probably don't feel that way anymore and aren't concerned or angry about the same things now as they were then.
