Lyrics for Amerika (english) as interpreted by Shoot_Me

Amerika (english) Lyrics
We're all living in America
America is wonderful
We're all living in America
America, America

When there's dancing I want to lead
even if you're whirling around alone
Let yourselves be controlled a little
I'll show you how it really goes
We'll make a nice round dance
Freedom will play on all violins
Music will come out of the White House
and Mickey Mouse will stand in front of Paris

We're all living in America
America is wonderful
We're all living in America
America, America

I know moves that are very useful
and I will protect you from missteps
And whoever doesn't want to dance at the end
doesn't know yet that they must
We'll make a nice round dance
I will show you the way
Santa Claus will come to Africa
and Mickey Mouse will stand in front of Paris

We're all living in America
America is wonderful
We're all living in America
America, America

We're all living in America
Coca-Cola, Wonderbra
We're all living in America
America, America

This is not a love song
This is not a love song
I don't sing my mother tongue
No, This is not a love song

We're all living in America
America is wonderful
We're all living in America
America, America

We're all living in America
Coca-Cola, sometimes war
We're all living in America
America, America

I've been to Germany for a long time and it's really scary: Everywhere you go there's a fuckin McDonald's or Burger King or whatever and they keep messing around with their own language. One example: The "Backshop" which simply is a bakery. It's unbelievable how our American culture influences Europe.

God, I swear when most morons see the word "America" in a song they automatically think it's all anti-american <---what? actually most people assume that songs with "America" mentioned in them are patriotic, because unfortunately, that's the way it is.

If you actually read that interview exerpt it doesn't sound like the song is meant to ba anti-American... just likghtly mocking.

P.S.: what pisses you people off about the Iraq War so much? You really aren't affected, but a hell of a lot of Iraqis really are better off, despite being pissed off at the same time
http://www.iraqbodycount.net/press/
~20,000 civillian casualties. definitely worth it.
by the way, i think "blood for oil" comments are hilarious considering all oil has gone directly to Iraq.

To sum up America is fuckin awesome and I'm glad to live in a country that is both free and relatively untouched by socialism, having been born in the Soviet Union. So have fun in your
"redneck free" enlightened Europe. Just quit bitching.

Bugmenot - excuse me?! Are you quite deluded enough yet? We are all affected by what your government does - it is the most powerful country in the world (although definitely not the most responsible). Your description of Europe as 'enlightened', although sarcastic, is comparatively accurate. Also, the idealisms of socialism/communism are a lot more appealing to me than your so called freedom.

20,000 civilian casualties? oh, wait, that's the pro-American 'official' number, right? And the oil hasnt gone to Iraq, its IN Iraq! America lost its platform in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia) and it needed a new one, so they 'liberated' the Iraqi people, and now Haliburton (oh look! an AMERICAN company) control most of Iraqs oil.

The American propaganda is aimed at the uninformed majority - I'm guessing pretty much every supporter of this invasion voted for Bush?

I feel sorry for the 51% (ish) of Americans who voted against him, they and the rest of the world have to put up with Bush for another four years....(although give the guy some credit, he actually WON this time!!!)

Okok before someone rips another person's head off, let me have a say, ok I do live in america so let me get the I agree with bug 9ut of the way first

I don't want socialism, economically it does not work and I enjoy most of the freedom that I have (though it is opressed by a neo conservitive goverment of doom but I digress) and the song is a subtle mocking rather then a full out anti american anthem like american idiot and I am proud to be an american, but with points where I start fighing it too

Ok, all the pro america suff is out of the way, now for the anti american stuff, the body count is higher in iraq, by a lot, who knows how many people are dead cause of a war we did not need to fight. The oil staying in iraq does not mean it goes to the people, they are still poor and starving because huge oil compainies, like the one CHANEY runs, takes it, but we in the states still have uber high gas prices, go fig, the iraqis are not liberated, they are under our thumb and that is why they are pissed off and we are trying to get warring tribes to work together, that never works without totalitarianism in place (and that would suck) culturely in some ways europe is better, same vise versa though, and in this new age of internet and phones, government changes effect everyone, and it did even way back to the romans and so on back to egypt even, its always a chain reaction, you can not say that something america does is isolated to one or two places, its felt all over the world, we are not isolated like you think we are bug, we are part of the world theater no matter what anyone says, and we are the only superpower left, since guess what, ussr fell apart so before spewing out fox news pro bush stuff, think, or don't say a word

i don't see how you can have such positive or negative feelings towards a country. there can be no "perfect" government in a world where humans rule themselves. it really bugs me when people act like America is God's chosen country, but there's not really anywhere that's better to live, and it's a point that's not worth arguing and leads to segregating, labeling, and stereotyping people based on where they're from, and thus we should hate the sin, not the sinner, why pledge your allegiance to one country, when you can pledge it to the world?

while ive always admired rammstein, looking at what some of you have said (loving it, hating it, antiwar, whatever) it is becoming more apparent to me that almost anyone can write a protest song (rather than a anti-american song),it also becomes apparent to me that in post 9-11 world, there is a place for this type of music, not only a place but a need...so rock on, rammstein...

I agree both with redraven and with texor, but then protest songs are needed all the time, sometimes music helps give truth the sweetened taste it needs to show itself to the masses

This song is not about socialism or capitalism, it is just a song mocking cultural and political arrogance. It's not anti-American, it is anti-I-know-what's-best-for-you-and-you-better-toe-the-line-attitudes.

its about that all countries in the way of their culture become american... even asia or africa are. The line "were all living in america" says this.

Furthermore it shows america as someone who wants to control everything so that it looks like hes trying to help, but actually is trying to make profit out of that. U can see that in lines like
"When there's dancing I want to lead"
"and I will protect you from missteps"

Just a quick note - the line "This is not a love song" is the title of a Public Image Ltd track from way back which is all about enterprise and the way we change in the face of moolla.

Why is everyone saying "this isnt an anti-american song like american idiot"? american idiot isnt an anti american song. Bille Joe clearly stated its about the confusion the country is in with pop culture, the war etc. It's not in anyway an anti-american song not a single song on the cd is. People see American Idiot and assume its anti american.

And most europeans ignorance of america astounds me. You hate us for no reason like the population of america puts mcdonalds over there..please. You see a few idiots on cnn a liberal biased channel that make themselves lool like asses therefore its lets be anti american because of the media. And I am SO sick of this America wants to rule the world bullshit if your serious when you say that you HAVE to be semi retarded.

Umm... i'm not really sure what to say... I think this song is actually about the globalization of American culture. I went to Germany in 2001 (Pre 9/11) and it is shockingly similar to the States. Almost all of their music is American music. On top of that, most of them speak English (it's a requirement in most schools). I think Rammstein might be upset at how Germany (and much of the world) is losing it's cultural heritage because of America. I would think that's why the world dislikes us.

I think that Europe also sees us coming dangerously close to being a military empire. I've noticed that many Americans have a "we don't give a fuck what the world thinks of us, we'll do what we want" attitude. The world views us as sort of a "jerk" of a country. No one wants to be around the asshole that doesn't care about anybody else, the one that wants things his/her way.

One more thing, i'm tired of people bitching about France. I realize that we saved them in WWI and WWII, but if it wasn't for France we would have never won our independence from Britain.

First of all, I'm tired of seeing so many illiterate people who think it's the government that controls a country like the united states. Wake up you fools, this is not the Greek empire nor Roman empire.

America is a commercialized society, the statesmen no longer have any real power, it's those who have most of the money who make the decisions, who change the culture of America and the rest of the world to serve to their advantage.
The government is just a tool in hands of those people, acting on behalf of them, and hiding them from being seen as the decision-makers and therefore saving them a lot of trouble.

And I'm also tired of seeing so many ignorant people who think wars are fought for 'freedom'! Open your eyes, these days wars are fought by capitalists trying to save their ass from being overrun by an ideology that threats them, such as communism. Why the hell did WW2 happen? It seems everyone forgot the fact that it was Britain that helped Germany build its military and industry, just to fight the growing wave of communism on the east side.
Or who made up Taliban in Afghanistan? The whole group and their ideologies were created by CIA to fight the Soviet forces up to north.

Think a little please!

And about this song, I think it's a great song.
As pointed out by bush_h8er, the American policies are destroying other cultures with a pace never seen before and replacing natural and healthy food with crap like coca-cola and McDonald's and Subway.
Did you know that there are already 5 Subway restaurants in Iraq? Ironic, that's all I can say.

PS: Fuck communism and fascism and terrorism and fuck all this ethnocide. I'm tired of hearing about them. I just wish I was born in Australia some 5000 years ago, and I wouldn't have to worry about any of this crap.

It's not necessarily anti-American politics (Rammstein have stated time & time again that they dislike being pinned down politically), but it's definitely a satire of America, and what it has come to represent to those who aren't American -- "This is not a love song." It even satirizes the American attitude on language through the use of English lyrics in the chorus and on the bridge.

deathwish - "I feel sorry for the 51% (ish) of Americans who voted against him, they and the rest of the world have to put up with Bush for another four years....(although give the guy some credit, he actually WON this time!!!) " Heh, the day Bush "won" again was a truely sad day. I honestly cried. I just missed being able to vote in 2k so this was my first biggy... I actually read up on the issues (I already knew no Bush) but I wanted facts and reasons to support a democrat. And I really did like the Kerry/Edwards ticket. Still... I have my doubts about Bush "winning" this election. Though thanks to most of the mid west any "cheating" may have been purely overkill anyways. I just wish that more people in this country would have just read up ... done some research and made the desision for themselves. To ... to many people voted for the wrong reasons. Namely, midwesterers voteing for Bush because he is a good christian *laughs* . And that is sad. I am NOT anti religion . I just thought that church and state were supposed to be seperate... but that gap is growing tighter and tighter by the day. Before the election I got into numerous debates with Bush votes. Very few gave me decent reasons for voteing for him ... other then : Good christian, I dont like Kerry , or the bought into the anti Kerry crap... all they had to do was a tiny bit of research and deside for themselves and not be told how to vote. If more people had done that and Bush had STILL won I would still be sad... but less frustrated and angry. Americans... dont like to think.

But I digress... This song is really cool. I love the music video . It is just paced so nicely. As for the meaning. Im leaning more towards the irony side then anti-american. Like the song says... It is not a love song. But I dont think it is a hate song either. More mater of fact. I know it sounds a bit distressing to some but in the end this world will all end up danceing the same tune. Countries and governments may stay seperate but over time alliances will form... counsils set up and like the highlander... in the end there can only be one. This could be a good or a bad thing though. Now forgive my long windedness and this upcomming metaphor but things can go two ways from here... 1984 a few countries playing against each other and its own people. Or ... *cough* Star Trek... an Unified planet. This song points out some of the good things of danceing to the same tune... Protection and food ... downsides... a certain loss of national identity "I dont sing my mother tounge" ... I'll leave you with that... sorry I said so much.

I turned 18 just in time for the election and was seriously planning on voting Kerry, but god damn, his supporters really turned me off. "Americans are stupid", "Bush = Hitler!", "**** Amerikkka!".

With so many anti-Americans being pro-Kerry, I really thought that if he won he would **** things up even worse than Bush did.
