Lyrics for Amerika as interpreted by Shoot_Me

Amerika Lyrics
We're all living in Amerika
Amerika ist wunderbar
We're all living in Amerika
Amerika, Amerika

Wenn getanzt wird will ich führen
auch wenn ihr euch alleine dreht
Lasst euch ein wenig kontrollieren
Ich zeige euch wie es richtig geht
Wir bilden einen lieben Reigen
Die Freiheit spielt auf allen Geigen
Musik kommt aus dem Weißen Haus
und vor Paris steht Micky Maus

We're all living in Amerika
Amerika ist wunderbar
We're all living in Amerika
Amerika, Amerika

Ich kenne Schritte die sehr nützen
und werde euch vor Fehltritt schützen
Und wer nicht tanzen will am Schluss
weiß noch nicht dass er tanzen muss
Wir bilden einen lieben Reigen
Ich werde euch die Richtung zeigen
Nach Afrika kommt Santa Claus
und vor Paris steht Micky Maus

We're all living in Amerika
Amerika ist wunderbar
We're all living in Amerika
Amerika, Amerika

We're all living in Amerika
Coca-Cola, Wonderbra
We're all living in Amerika
Amerika, Amerika

This is not a love song
This is not a love song
I don't sing my mother tongue
No, this is not a love song

We're all living in Amerika
Amerika ist wunderbar
We're all living in Amerika
Amerika, Amerika

We're all living in Amerika
Coca-Cola, sometimes war
We're all living in Amerika
Amerika, Amerika

I find this song interesting, and the discussion even more interesting. It seems to be a very polarizing issue.

I am an American. I love my contry. With that said please seperate your attacks into two catagories, one for my nationalism, and one for my comments.

I feel the song does not necessarly have an anti-america sentiment, merely an anti-american culture sentiment.

Can a country truly froce it's culture on country. No. That countries citizens have to adopt it. Lets look at objectively. Even if McDonalds paid off a countries leaders in oder to build a McDonalds on that nations soil, it was still a citizen of that nation that allowed it to happen. Then we can point the finger at everyone who goes to that facility to buy a meal. And trust me, if someone forced them to do that, the news media would be all over it.

I am not even going to discuss the war in Iraq, or my opinions on it. But I would like to see some news coverage of some of the good things that happen over there. It is a hard process, and a messy conflict. But consider this, it seems that more than half blame the American goverment for 9/11. And interestingly enough, that same half critisies and does everything in their power to prevent the goverment from taking steps to make sure it will never happen again.

Whether Iraq was right or wrong, we are there now. We went over, and broke it. Now everyone in the world is telling us to pull out. Ok, but if we were to walk away, what would you say when the situation degrades even farther. Would we blame the American goverment? I think we have a commitment, or a duty if you will to Iraqi citizens to put it right. It is the same commitment that we had to Nazi Germany, and Imperial Japan. And I don't think anyone could look back and say we screwed up there.

As Americans we can be narrow sighted. As an anti american sentiment grows in the world, so does a seperatist sentiment in the USA. And that is a true tragedy.

Every country in this world has a unique and valuable perspective. But lets face it, as the world moves farther into a "World Economy" cultures will homoginize. It is inevetable. The only alternative is to do like north korea, or china. Through up a wall, repress your people. And why does everyone ignore the elephant in the room. Let's face it, Kim is phyco, he brutalizes and starves his own people to the tune of millions. Makes Saddam look like a boy scout.

And are we supposed to do about terrism? Ask Pakistan, Iran, and a host of other countries to do better? And sit back and let the planes fly?

A final question for all of us to ask, How can we call ourselves civilized (all nations) while we allow that to happen. Millions dead, tortured, starved.

I was raised with the idea that bad things happen becuase good people let them. And my friends we all let this happen, every day.

Well i think it is fucked up how the one guitar player lives in America now and writes music like this. The music video for this song is rediculous, for the fact that they have people eating Hamburger's, well i have some news for the Germans, Mc.Donalds has more of a profit in Europe than it does in America.
These guys are talentless retards, that get off on writing songs whice are stupid enough that Adolf Hitler could have wrote. I come from the country of Estonia, and have been to America many times. I think American's are much more Peaceful and friendly than the Germans, Rammstein has a fairly big fan base in America, and needs to rethingk before they write shit like this. Oh yeah talk all you want about America, i dont believe they are the ones who dont like to talk about World War II. I am sure you guys think that Americans are racist well look at what Hitler did he killed jew's so yeah. Go to America before you can say shit about the country.

This song is about the outsourcing of America and how you can live, more or less, like an American no matter where you live. It is funny, all the people saying"pardon my English, it's not my first language" seem like Americans. Living in Europe as I do, but traveling the world I often see people who speak other languages. Only those faking their residency in the countries attempt apologies for their English...what is that saying about the lot of you? If you are truly not American and English not your first language...take pride in it, apologies not for misuse of it, embrace your culture make it your own...especially since you're faking.

Ok, before i give my opinion of the song and my belief as to its meaning, i would like to state first and foremost, i am an american citizen, and my greatest wish in life is to become a member of the United States Marine Corp. Now, Rammstein is an amazing band, they are not interested in the financial aspects of their music, they are primarily concerned with expressing themselves with their given talents as well as putting on a good show for people. The song is basically a joke on the American way of life, and i am not talking about how we are a democracy or the institution that is our government, i am talking about how most people within this country are primarily concerned with only themselves. It has to be said, that yes, we are an overly selfish country, as is our population, and that many of the things that our government does are wrong, attempting to police the whole world and therefore impose our own culture on others for example. Do no get me wrong, i love my country, i love being an american and the only thing i want in my life is to serve this country, but i also maintain the belief that our culture is separate and different from others, which therefore entails the fact that if someone was imposing their way of life upon us, we would not like it either. In the end, it is just a song, with a kickass guitar solo in it, gotta have respect for Richard Kruspe, and to demean the country of Germany because you do not approve of a song is simply ignorance. Also, having been to germany in the past, it has to be said that it is an extremely peaceful and clean country.

ok u need to hear this from another american: we're f***ed up! i first heard this song at a summer program where german was taught to us by a native. he let us listen to the song, and then, so show that he's unbiased on this topic, let us debate the issue for an hour and a half. the debate spilled over to our dorms (we were staying at northern michigan university). i'd also like to comment on what someone said a few comments back. something about germany = warmongers. bulls***. tell me this: are they allowed to have nuclear weapons? yet our president is negotiating with the president of n. korea, which is part of the "axis of evil"

I would just like to state that the previous poster does not speak for all of us. First I have a hope that if someone is that unhappy with thier country they would either attempt a change, or at least move somewhere that they feel is more suitable. But that is what defines freedom of speech. Freedom to speak out against authority with no fear of reprisal.

Second he stated that the american president is negotiating with the president of north korea. A member of the "Axis of Evil". The way a see it we have three choices. Ignore it. Which never works, or bomb it, which almost never works, or negotiate. Which one would you like? Personally, I think they should negotiate as long as it takes. Because maybe, just maybe we can avoid war. And if it comes down to that maybe we will be able to sleep, and say that we tried.

But at the end of the day, whether it be through negotiation, or war, may it be swift enough to save a few more north koreans from starvation, or torture. May someone step up and give these people the freedom from fear. Fear of thier own goverment. Freedom to speak thier own minds, even if it conflicts with the interests of the North Korean Goverment.

I pray that negotiations accomplish this, but sadly I do not think they will. Maybe we get N. korea to abandon thier nuclear program and call it a day. And the entire world. All of us. We can go back to turning a blind eye to the horrors that happen at the hands of a dictator.

ok i have some things to say to archive. i'm sorry if i offended you with my anti-american remark. i have just noticed that over the decades we are pushing for more and more power, yet keeping a peaceable visage. also, i agree; no nation should have nuclear weapons. also, negotiations with a country that seems to defy our way of life are indeed more acceptable to war, but as we have seen in our other dealings with n. korea, negotiations are pointless, simply because logic cannot be used on illogical people. also, moving would be nice; sux though that i'm only 16

My God, nationalism is terrible. I've never seen such a grouping of partriots before... Our government has most of society blinded and brainwashed! Doesn't anyone know that our army trained Al Qaida to help them restore their country? We promised to help them restore Iraq, but we lied, and we never did. Are we helping them now? No. We're killing them and ourselves. That's why this war isn't being won, because they know our strategies. We're forcing ourselves on them, and that's all we're good for. I would love to leave this country, and perhaps move to either Germany, Austria, or Finland, however, I'm only 16. Hopefully, I can get out of here before every outside country decides we're a pissant, and point nukes at us until we're a wasteland.

I always get a laugh when I hear individuals (especially Europeans) complain that the U.S. is the "Worlds Police Force". The fact is our military policing today is the result of two world wars brought on by Europeans who could not get along or get it together. These wars cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans. America did not ask for the “World Police” role but due to these two world wars we were no longer going to be re-active, but pro-active. Simply put, the U.S. became a world power as a result of Europeans not digging each other. I advise anyone who has an issue with American Globalism, to protest your own government for permitting the evil American business to expanded into your homeland. Yes this is a Anti American song, but so what, it's a german band complaining about the success of American influence. I will never apologize for being American.

i will. Rammstein knows what's going on. Our culture and influence is too widespread. Look at our culture. For the most part, American music, american-ized food, american ideas. very little do we see anything from other countries (with the exception of all the crap "Made in China"). Look at other countries; most of them speak dialects of our language, eat our food, and use things created because of american ideas. its a bit one-sided, don't you think?

It is interesting to hear that we are forcing our culture on others. Most common examples are Coke, and McDonalds. But how exactly do we force our culture on someone else? By opening a McDonalds? I am sorry, but I don't see that as "forcing". The people that go there make a decision to do so. To the best of my knowledge, noone puts a gun to thier head and makes them order a big mac.
Let me state this as clearly as I see it. If someone adopts an "American" culture, it is because they CHOOSE TO DO SO. It is thier decision, not ours.
I agree with rgraves001. We have taken a pro active stance to our security. I believe the policy is called preventitive spending. It is alot cheaper to maintain a military, and fight a war off our shore than to rebuild new york.
But part of what makes this country great is our ability to openly disagree with the goverment.
And to qoute rgraves001: I will never apoligize for being American.

Ha Ha! Dammit people its a song! Get over yourselves. Look the point of songs is so people can have their own interpratations of them. Who cares what this song means anymore? Remember a little song by these same people called " Du Hast" or " Du Hasst" ( You have or you hate)? My point is, again that this song has more than one meaning. Rammstein is an incredible band. That deserve nothing but respect.

Now, I'm American and I don't think we force our culture on you. You force it on yourselves. If American culture is so terrible than stop buying our movies, CD's and just about every other piece of media or product from the US. Our culture is also a mix of various cultures. EVERYONE in the US is an immigrant. it is kind of hypocritical to say that you can find fault with our way of life. Nobody is perfect. Every country has its problems. Even Germany has an illegal immigration problem because of Turkey. Why do people hate American's so much? I don' t hate people that hate me. If you hate America you are very misinformed about us. We actually aren't war mongering believe it or not. Please come to America and experience it before you judge it. Oh! and for all the people apologizing for their bad English- Its perfect. Don't worry about it. Du sprachst Englisch sehr gut.

Another thing. IF this song is anti-American in any way that is very hypocritical because Rammstein is signed to Universal records. Which is a big AMERICAN record company. That should be put in the dictionary as an example of irony. ha ha.

What does this song mean to you?

this song is saying that america want to control the world and already controls a many countries including germany. From this government control it will also put commercial profits over culture and the hungry.

america is wonderful? No, this is not a love song.

Now let me say this, I am American and I am proud of it.

Do I agree with out government and our politics? No.

I believe us americans are pretty stupid. Yes I just insulted myself. I think its stupid how our schools really don't teach us current events from other countries, but yet many countries have to learn ours. As others have said, our government keeps us in a bubble and we know practically nothing about the outside world, we are fat, lazy, and stupid. We like how we like and are very nasty people. I can't change how I was raised, but I can change how I act and what I know.

Our country is moronic (yes ranting over and over), I realize that we can get whatever we want when we need it, but that is just down right stupid. We have one of the highest if not the highest crime rates in the world and our leaders aren't really setting good examples. I mean seriously, our leaders are so paranoid of other countries that when they even try to partially arm themselves to have a defense that doesn't even come close to ours, our leaders crush them. Why? because they think that if anyone else gets close in our standings then we are screwed, and not a world power anymore. Ignorance thats all it is.

I Luv Rammstein! I'm an German American, I appreciate my traditions, and I consider myself a patriotic American. I don't think the song is Anti American, I think they are poking fun at us,it's just a song. My fellow Americans need to lighten up.To the Germans I'd say they are really making fun of themselves, as there are more Germans here than there are in Germany. As to American wars, It's true. Afghanistan needed invading. Iraq...well whoops, sorry. Remember 911.
All nationalities died there, yea even Muslims, AMERICAN Muslims. We need to clean up the mess we made of Iraq. It would be nice if our German and Japanese friends put aside their collective national guilt trips and helped us out a bit. If we joined hands in places like Bosnia, Africa, Korea, and yes Iraq. Maybe fewer mistakes would be made, and we could all do the world some good. If we were unified in the concept of Amerika, or whatever you want to call it. Unlike the song nobody makes the Germans dance. Only Friends dance, America shouldn't have to make anyone do the "right thing". One planet, One people. If you want to call it planet Amerka, I'm okay with that lol :)

Thanks to the Germans for inventing xmas(The traditions), one of their better influences.

Lol at the two people who said it was ironic that Rammstein were complaining about America in a rock song. It's not a rock song, it's a form of industrial music called Neue Deutsche Härte. Better luck next time (even though neither of you will see this since it's been like a year :P).
