Lyrics for Evil as interpreted by jasonlund

Evil Lyrics
Rosemary, heaven restores you in life
You're coming with me
Through the aging, the fearing, the strife

It's the smiling on the package
It's the faces in the sand
It's the thought that moves you upwards
Embracing me with two hands

Right will take you places
Yeah, maybe to the beach
When your friends they do come crying
Tell them now your pleasure's set upon slow release

Hey wait
Great smile
Sensitive to fate, not denial

It took a life span with no cellmate
The long way back
Sandy, why can't we look the other way?

We speaks about travel
Yeah, we think about the land
We smart like all peoples
Feeling real tan

I could take you places
Do you need a new man?
Wipe the pollen from the faces
Make revision to a dream while you wait in the van

It took a life span with no cellmate
To find the long way back
Sandy, why can't we look the other way?
You're weightless; you are exotic
You need something for which to care
Sandy, why can't we look the other way?

Leave some shards under the belly
Lay some grease inside my hand
It's a sentimental jury
And the makings of a good plan
You've come to love me lightly
Yeah, you come to hold me tight
Is this motion ever lasting
Or do shudders pass in the night?

Rosemary, heaven restores you in life

It spent a life span with no cellmate
The long way back
Sandy, why can't we look the other way?
You're weightless, semi-erotic
You need someone to take you there
Sandy, why can't we look the other way?
Why can't we just play the other game?
Why can't we just look the other way?

it's hard to tell what he's saying at times, but these lyrics are definitely a little off. for example, it's, "your pleasure's set upon slow release," rather than "relief."

"tell them how your pleasures set up on slow release"

I can relate to it, I love that line.

"I spent a life span with no cellmate" is just brilliant piece of writing. paul's got the meaning of lonliness wrapped up in one line

I think this song and c'mere are the best ones on the newest album.. i really didn't care for too much of the rest. (Though I've only given it a few listens so i could be speaking too early)

to me, it seems like two things in this song jump out at me....the setting of the beach (Feeling real tan, Yea maybe to the beach, The faces in the sand) and the instance of the "trial". i think its a song about something that happened on the beach, and how he was set up to look like he did it: (Leave some shards under the belly, Lay some grease inside my hand) and about the trial (It's a sentimental jury, It took a life span with no cellmate , But, hey, who's on trial?) and how she could have testified against him and now she's "evil": (tell them how your pleasures set up on slow release).
maybe, i don't know, just trying to piece another thing together.

hey i agree with x_miss_red_head_x, if u look at it that way there are also amazing parrallels to the book "The Outsider" by A. Camus. The book depicts the live of a man who refused to lie and was hence punished by society not for his murder but rather because he didn't cry at his mothers funeral. Many lines reflect similarities: "Sensitive to fate, not denial", "Right will take you places
Yea maybe to the beach", "I spent a life span with no cellmate " basically the whole song...holy shit!

right on
but hey who's on trial?

you took a lifespan with no cellmate
a long way back saying "Me, why can't we look the other way?"

he speaks about travel
yeah we think about the land
we are smart like all peoples feeling real tan
i could take you places
but you need a new man?
wipe the pollen from the faces
make me vision to a dream while you wait in the van

anyway
they smile
sensitive to fake nods
but hey who's on trial?

it took a lifespan with no cellmate
but a long way back saying "Me, why can't we look the other way?"
you're weightless
you are exotic

saying "Me, why can't we look the other way?"

leave some shards under the belly
lay some grease inside my hand
it's a sentimental jury
and the makings of a good plan
you've come to love me like me
yeah you've come to hold me tight
is this motion everlasting
or do shudders pass in the night?

Rosemary
our heaven restores you in life

I've spent a lifespan with no cellmate
a long way back saying "Me, why can't we look the other way?"
you're weightless
semi-erotic
you need someone to take you there
saying "Me, why can't we look the other way?
Why can't we just play the other game?
Why can't we just look the other way?"

i remember i was on mtv2 once, and this song started. when it said "Interpol" i though, ooh, i wanna listen to this...except i wasn't even listening this first time...the video involves a really strange puppet singing, and i was just staring at it, thinking "errr..." but later i actually *heard* the song, on the radio...it feels so dark and sinister and scary, and i love it! it's great

oh, god...everytime i hear this song it gets better! (and i've probably heard it over 20 times now). what i hate is deciding which part to make my msn screenname...right now it's the "why can't we just look the other way why can't we just play the other game" part...but i just don't know... ;)

woah this song does remind me of The Stranger, a LOT. This song just feels hot, all the mentions of the beach and sand and weightlessness. And in the Stranger a man kills another man basically because he's on a beach having heatstroke or something and just freaks out and shoots some guy. Then he goes to trial but his extremely lonely life that he has lived doesn't go over well with the jury. They're "sensitive to fake nods" and he's not giving any. oh! and the name of the song! Evil! in the Stranger everyone thinks this guy is Evil cuz he didnt cry at his mom funeral! ok i think i'm just talking out my ass now.

REAL MEANING>>>you guys are all wrong...they were on KROQ RADIOSTATION (becuz the songs confusing) and they asked them about what this song meant and they said something like its about..>>>A man whose in love with two women and he's playing them both>> When your friends say "you come crying"<< and Sends her to the fake love
But, hey, who's on trial?

i still don't get the video. it's been a while now since i saw it, but it involves a singing puppet, who was in an accident, then the doctors operate on him, and at the end the puppet's dancing around above the operating table...

...?!!!!

mca1lyric may know the "real" meaning, but it still is strikingly similar to the stranger.

I read somewhere that the song was about surviving a tragedy and that the video was supposed to emphasize this.

noisetothetape loses.

"Evil" is such an awesome song, no joke. The similarities to "The Stranger," now that I think about them, are eerie, but it always just struck me as one of Interpol's typical love songs.

mca1lyric, you DO realize how off noisetothetape's lyrics were, right?

Does anything think there's any significance to the name "Rosemary?" Because if you think about evil, and then think about the book/movie Rosemary's Baby, I don't know...maybe that's just my weirdness, because I really like that book. Anyway, awesome song with great lyrics.

yea rosemary's baby thats such an awsome book, but the lyrics don't really have anything else to do with it. I think rosemary is the girl hes cheating on Sandy with.
