Im going to take her back again..he is speaking of retreiving this lost love from "death" which is represented by the lakes possession and by being in the lake.
this can referr to simply losing someone who was lost in a relationship due to an indifference. the interesting part is the loss that stored in the "lake".
everyone ends up after death in a lake of fire waiting to be delivered from deaths grip by a flaming messenger..thats daves logo isnt it..the fire dancer.
this is a tale of a lost love and the retreival of and seeing that love restored...on that day
once i heard that i thought about it and it makes sense. every part of it.
However, thinking outside of the box, could the song be about Dave and Julia Grey? Julia Grey being the girl Dave asked to marry and she declined each time. Julia also being the girl who told the horrable lie that is the basis of the song Halloween.
The lyrics are very metaphorical, especially in the A Weekend at the Rocks version. Take a look:

"Ten years ago down by the lake I saw my sweat love a watery grave. " Could be a metaphor for 10 years ago I let her go, made an attempt to forget about her. And, if I am not mistaken, Julia told the "lie" about 10 years ago.
He can still close his eyes and see her face, he give his soul to take back that day (to make it never happen).
Maybe Dave saw Julia again not so long ago, realized he still has some feelings for her; albeit, he has moved on with his life. Realizing that he still has feelings that he wished he didn't he writes, "You have what I want and I am going to take it from you anyway I can".
Again, reading into the song a bit - but that part of the fun.
