  General Comment:I think this is a song about a relationship. I think the writer was in a relationship with an older person and that person decided to break up because of the age difference. If Kele is the one who wrote this song, it may be about a guy, since Kele is gay.

  General Comment:it might just be me that thinks this...
  
  but i thought it was his thoughts after someone had broken up with him
  he still seems optimistic that they'll get back together some day
  
  the age bit seems to be a typical excuse for break ups
  and he doesnt think this is a valid reason for breaking up with someobe.
  
  This would explain the "i'll go back if you ask" bit
  the second she desides she wants him back he'll come running backwards to where they used to be...
  
  this world aint just made of facts goes over my head a bit but i think its my fav line in the song

  General Comment:For all you guys asking about whether this is on Silent Alarm or whatever, this is how Little Thoughts was released.

  Silent Alarm Re-release: this was released a year or so after the original, like Bloc Party did with AWITC by putting Flux on the newer versions.

  General Comment:am i the only one who doesnt see this song as about a relationship? i see this song as more about coming of age, and growing up and what it means, the complications of life become more apparent which i think is what is meant by the first verse, and the second i think is a reference to the news, especially with the every "half hour is a countdown" and that ultimately theres more to life than facts, and i think that in the last bit hes sort of wishing he could return to a time when life was so complicated, like when you're younger or a child. thats my take on it anyways

  General Comment:I'd never thought about him being in love with a younger girl but it could be right. I always thought the "i'd go back if you ask" sort ot meant he'd sacrafice everything he'd achieved in his life so far, like a career, to be with her and he'd take a step backwards in life.

  General Comment:i think you could take it two ways.
  
  first way, about a relationship, maybe the protangonists broke it off because they thought they were too young (or one of them did, and if they ask, he'll go back, and then realizes the other is a coward if the reason they broke it off was because they were young). so it might be that its a song about trust or something.
  
  The other way I can interpret it is that its about progress and marching towards whereever society is headed. If we keep walking, we'll stay up. If we start paying attention to the details of what is going on, we'll go slowly slowly down.
  
  However, if realizes we could go back. He isn't buying into that march forward into "progress" could be what we need. If someone asks, we could could back ( and reexamines values and what's good and bad or something). The whole age thing is talking about how everyone talks about the youth being the promise of tomorrow, but never giving them any real responsibility in society. He's saying people are cowards if they think youth only want to go "forward." If asked, they'd go back and change the world.
