I said God
In the trees it's lovely
But it's lonely
With a bone
He will try to clone me
Make a mother
There will be another me
Your mom
When the bomb exploded
Overloaded
Eaten fruit birthday suit decoded
I decided
You would like another mom
Bomb bomb bomb (etc)
Marry me lucky tree
You're my tree
And your [sic] my three
When you burn
Now I'm free
To find me number four
And number four can marry me
Bomb bomb bomb (etc)
Just like me
Final tree
You're lovely
But you're lonely
I will clone thee
Little tree
In the trees it's lovely
But it's lonely
With a bone
He will try to clone me
Make a mother
There will be another me
Your mom
When the bomb exploded
Overloaded
Eaten fruit birthday suit decoded
I decided
You would like another mom
Bomb bomb bomb (etc)
Marry me lucky tree
You're my tree
And your [sic] my three
When you burn
Now I'm free
To find me number four
And number four can marry me
Bomb bomb bomb (etc)
Just like me
Final tree
You're lovely
But you're lonely
I will clone thee
Little tree

Also worth noting though is that Satomi (lyricist) and Greg (drummer) are married.. When I first read these lyrics, before reading your response, my first thought was that this song was about him. My thoughts in particular:
You're my tree
And your [sic] my three
When you burn
Now I'm free
To find me number four
And number four can marry me
Number three an ex? And number four Greg?
Just like me
Final tree
You're lovely
But you're lonely
I will clone thee
Little tree
This I assumed to be in reference to Greg. "I will clone thee" meaning, I'll have your kids, lol.
It's more of a literal interpretation than what's been said.
Of course, if there's something in the CD insert about African trees then that could completely negate everything I just said :P
"The last few lines, starting with "Just like me/Final tree" probably refer to the similarity of all living things ("just like me") and how humans decided to cultivate plant life because they thought it was beautiful ("You're lovely/But you're lonely/I will clone thee")."
The "You're lovesly/But you're lonely/I will clone thee" thing kind of reminds me how in the biblical story, God created Eve from Adam's rib (I will clone thee) because Man needed Woman (You're lovely/but you're lonely). It also said something very similar in the beginning (But it's lonely/With a bone/He will try to clone me/Make a mother/There will be another me). I think the end is just kind of a reflection on the beginning there, has nothing to do with cultivation or whatever.
Otherwise, fucking awesome song, fucking awesome band.
Gosh, I never would have guessed :)
Agreed that this song is awesome, though. I always just thought it was mostly nonsense, but this Adam/Eve connection works, I suppose. Of course, there are sections that don't quite fit... someone can probably read WAY too far into it and pull some totally crazy abstract meaning out of it, like with the Mars Volta or something, but I'd prefer to just go on ahead and not try and divulge any deep meaning from them. I'm dumb like that.
all that's left to be said is that it's GREAT.
