    General Comment:I completely agree with the idea that this song could be about a break up. The song name "a boy brushed red living in black and white" could mean that this person - the boy - believes that life and all it's twist and turns , such as break ups, are easy to understand, that they are all in black or white. "A boy brushed red" could actually symbolize a boy with a lot of different feelings (since red often is used as a symbol to clarify strong feelings) but who simply lives in a world where things are supposed to be only in black and white. So... maybe this song is about realizing just how difficult and everything BUT black and white life can be.

    My Interpretation:I guess it depends on your perspective but I COMPLETELY disagree with many of the people on here. I don't really see where the song implies that having sex is bad, or "too far", It seems to be about a relationship thats pretty much over (something has gone terribly wrong...you've lost your touch) but both people are putting off the inevitable breakup and still holding on (In this moment where we both ignore the truth,its all over) because they are comfortable in the relationship and don't really know how to handle/are scared of single life (I'm scared, you're scared, we're scared of this). Im thinking it may be because he was cheating and destroying her life (slit wrists, you're sleeping with the next door i always knew you were such a sucker for that it doesnt matter what you say you never mattered anyway)
    Anyway I know the majority of people think its about the "temptation and evils of having sex" but I see it a completely different way and just wanted to offer an alternative opinion.

    General Comment:Its a fictional/non fictional story of two people engaging in sexual activity given the knowledge that thats not what they should be doing at the time. Its basically two christian or two people in general who have a certain set of morals they have set for themselves. And are at the point of breaking those and all the things that go through your head and the decisions you make when you decide to turn your back on what youve set for yourselves and go through with it. As the song progresses its kinda like the repercussions of it as well. If you read the lyrics its like boy, and then the conscience that is speaking to him. And its kinda a war in himself to figure out what's right and he has some repercussions that end up pretty badly.

    That was stated in an interview with the guitarist. It can be interpreted any way you like but this is the correct meaning for the song.

    My Interpretation:A boy brushed red.. living in black and white.
    So my thoughts were more along the lines of a boy brushed red- a boy sinning by cheating on his girlfriend. living in black and white - that everyone is blind to his this.

    General Comment:I don't think any of you understand this or any other lyrics or song of them. you have to look past the letters and words themselves and analize what they mean and what they felt when writing them.
    Im not exactly sure but someone long ago told me a few songs were dedicated to his gf like this song and down set go because aaron cheated on her, not because addiction or anything like that.
