Lyrics for Give 'Em Hell Kid as interpreted by autumns_gone

Give 'Em Hell Kid Lyrics
Oh baby here comes the sound!
I took a train outta New Orleans and they shot me full of ephedrine.
This is how we like to do it in the murder scene.
Can we settle up the score?

If you were here,
I'd never have a fear.
So go on live your life.
But I miss you more than I did yesterday.
(You're beautiful.)

Well I'm a total wreck and almost every day.
Like the firing squad or the mess you made.
Well don't I look pretty walking down the street.
In the best damn dress I own?

If you were here,
I'd never have a fear.
So go on live your life.
But I miss you more than I did yesterday.
You’re so far away.
So c’mon show me how.
‘Cause I mean this more than words can ever say.

We are, made from the sharpest things you’d say.
We are young and we don't care.
Your dreams and your hopeless hair.
We never wanted it to be this way.
For all our lives.
Do you care at all?

If you were here,
I'd never have a fear.
So go on live your life.
But I miss you more than I did yesterday.
You’re so far away.
So c’mon show me how.
‘Cause I mean this more than words can ever say.

the whole teenage pregnancy thing is awesome, i would never have thought of that...if that's so, that means that the entire thing was written from the girl's POV. i think the "best damn dress i own" line has to do with her not having money, because many teenage mothers are in a hard financial situation, especially in sayerville, nj (that's where they're from). this is like a rant from to the father of the kid that was aborted. Maybe the "kiss that guy line" was her saying, "i didn't even want to kiss him, then suddenly i was carrying his kid." unfortunately, this whole idea doesn't fit in to the concept album's plot in the least. whatever.

I always thought this song was from a female point of view... I mean, Gerard Way might very well walk round in dresses, but it's a CONCEPT album. As in, not literal to the singer. Most songwriters (and writers/performers in general) take on personas, or characters that are a mix of themselves and their inventions.

Honestly, I don't have much of a clue about this song. The entire album hints at an "underworld" type of business; the mob, perhaps.

It seems like the girl (perhaps "Helena") is watching the male protagonist (yknow, the one who makes the deal, has to kill the guys, the one in "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison," etc.) as he tries to get her back from the dead.

Maybe she's looking down at him from wherever she is and talking about being shot full of ephedrine (in a hospital, perhaps, where she was taken before she died), and is talking about the "mess you made' in regards to this insane deal he's keeping up.

Just my interpretation...

I recently went to a concert of theirs. Rather, I went to their concert a few hours ago. GErard said this song was about kids being the future, and we don't care. ~

Helena was is his dead grandma but her real name's elena. The albums dedicated to her and someone else. I think the albums concept is he want's to bring her back to life so much so,he'd kill a thousand men for this as a deal with the devil.

here's my interpretaion.....

"Oh baby here comes the sound!
I took a train outta New Orleans and they shot me full of ephedrine."-This set's the scene.Maybe she was overdosed on ephedrine?

"This is how we like to do it in the murder scene.
Can we settle up the score?"-Hence my overdoes theory.the doctor gave her too much and she died.Gerrars asking the devil this.he wants some kind of deal to bring her back .

"If you were here,
I'd never have a fear.
So go on live your life.
But I miss you more than I did yesterday.
(You're beautiful.) "-He get's the fact that everyone dies but he obviously wishes she didn't have to.He's saying this to her.

"Well I'm a total wreck and almost every day.
Like the firing squad or the mess you made.
Well don't I look pretty walking down the street.
In the best damn dress I own?"-He's so stressed out by this. The mess is the deal-all the men he's killing. He's angry at her for all of what he's going through so he's taking the piss out of her in a moment of rage.

"If you were here,
I'd never have a fear.
So go on live your life.
But I miss you more than I did yesterday.
You’re so far away.
So c’mon show me how.
‘Cause I mean this more than words can ever say."-he's sorry for getting angry and he's just trying to explain how he feels.

"We are, made from the sharpest things you’d say.
We are young and we don't care.
Your dreams and your hopeless hair.
-the sharp things are his broken pieces. It hurt him when she said stuff about how awful the younger generation are when she got angry with him for something.perhaps she disaproved of his long hair?

"We never wanted it to be this way.
For all our lives.
Do you care at all?"-this is where i'm unsure.they might have had a row and he never got to appologise 'cos she died or this is him taking the piss again out of frustration.Does she get what he's going through?is it worth the effort?

The only thing i don't get is why gerrard said it's about teenage pregnancy andkids being the future. He might have wanted us all to think about the meaning or he felt vunerable with his emotions on show to millions.

No no! My friend pointed out to me that Gerard isn't saying "dress," he's saying "tux." If you listen, you can her the way he says "x" and not "ess."

This is such an awesome song...I'm all pumped up to see them at warped tour on August 12-- we should all go!...As a group!! haha no.

My friend and I are writing a story of the concept album, to link it together...the teen pregnancy bit wasn't how we interpreted it, even though that is eveidently what it's about...oh well. Rocking song, though!!!!

remember gerard said that the guys from " demolition lovers " had to kill 1000 EVIL men and how she went to hell and back, while he was looking for her.....this might be his great send-off to go find her..hence the name give em hell kid. he can't find her, she made a mess out of his life "Well I'm a total wreck and almost every day.
Like the firing squad or the mess you made..", thinking that she was gone and stuff.....he can't find her where he is, she seems to be avoiding him, not letting him find her..."If you were here, I'd never have a fear. So go on live your life. But I miss you more than I did yesterday. You’re so far away..." and then gerard DOES wear dresses sometimes...but it could just be him mocking her because she was being so awful to him " well don't i look pretty walking down the street in the best damn dress i own?" and when they met the were young, and they're probably poor now..." best damn dress i own...."
murder scene? yep, so he's having to kill to get her back...but he sorta sounds like he wants to do it fast, but fair "this is how we like to do it at the murder scence, can we settle out the score?"

-peace and milky-ways for all

Honestly, I think some of you are overthinking this one a bit.
(IMO) this song is pretty much a love song. Gerard obviously has a lot of anger over unrequieted (sp?)/unreturned love. More or less "Go on and live like I dont love you, but I love you more then I can put into words. "

Wow i can't believe no-one actually thought of this one.
The songs about abortion.
"I took a train outta New Orleans and they shot me full of ephedrine.
This is how we like to do it in the murder scene."
Right. She took the train to the hospital to have the abortion and epherdrine is the drug they gave her. The murder scene line refers to the fact that some people view abortion as murder. Yes it's about teenage pregnancy, but its about a young couple being too young to have the kid. The chorus is probably about her feeling alone without the guy (its pretty obvious to me that this song is from her point of view.)
"We never wanted it to be this way.
For all our lives.
Do you care at all?"
This speaks for itself. If your a young teenager and you end up pregnant you'll feel like your throwing your life away which is what i think this line refers to me. I can't believe no1 else picked up on the abortion theme, to me it was obvious.

WAIT I saw this one its pretty good.....its not my opinion but I agree with it

Oh baby here comes the sound!– here is the new band, a new beginning, the truth
I took a train outta New Orleans – took a train-was soul searching... outta New Orleans- got souber, left the world of drugs and alcohol)
and they shot me full of ephedrine. – (it could be the first theory or/BUT) he was refering to the facked that when he got sober, he became aweare of the damage that he has caused and that made him feel the same way as "ephedrine" does (i've already posted the definition of ephedrine - Ephedrine acts in a similar way as that of adrenaline)
This is how we like to do it in the murder scene. – comming clean about stuff... in the murder scene-when it comes to the point when it's almost deadful for fans and him (or the second possibility: if he overdosed it, they had to give him shots of ephedrine=i really think that it's the first one)
from here on everything is addressed to fans:
(p.s.: pay attention to the parts that Frank is singing along with Gerard (i think that that is Frank that is singing and not Ray, could be wrong, don't know)... those are the parts that are not only a message that Gerard is sending but the whole band is)
Can we settle up the score? – or if would say: "shell we look the truth into the eyes"
If you were here I'd never have a fear. – if he could watch over all his fans (if they were next to him) he wouldn't have to worry/fear that your going to waist your life the way that he did
So go on live your life. – the message-stay alive, don't waist it, living life to its fullness
But I miss you more than I did yesterday. - he realized how much fans really mena to him (more then they ever did)
Your beautiful! – refering to fans
Well I'm a total wreck and almost every day. - he really worries, blames himself, feels guilty-that's what is making him a total wreck almonst every day
Like the firing squad -the members of the band feel the same way (mabey he's got some problems within the band aswell)
or the mess you made.– his concern for the fans, because of the impresion that he/they'd been giving
Well don't I look pretty walking down the street. - trying to convince fans that this(new) image(of the band/himself) is better
In the best damn dress I own? – now that he's sober he is giving his best on stage (so he could show everyone how much fun you can have if you're sober)
You're so far away – fans are far from the truth...far from the message that he wanted to sent (or is it virtual distance=don't think so)
so c’mon show me how – "show"‘ him how he can make it better again
cause I mean this more then words can ever say – he really want to mend the impression, message
p.s.: the girl that sings along with Gerard says: "They may say" - refering to -fans may say-
we are made from the sharpest things you say. – the influence of his lyrics on fans
We are young and we don't care. - immpression that fans got from him... we don't care-the image that he gave to them
Your dreams and your hopeless hair. – his dreams became the dreams of his fans (but he was drowning his dreams in alco'/drugs at that time - and fans imitated him).... hopeless hair-is probably metaphora for imitating
We never wanted it to be this way. – band didn't want to give the wrong immpression(mark) of life(how it should be lived)
For all our lives. - he's/they're doing it for all of us - changing, showing us the true meaning of life
Do you care at all? – it's a question addressed to fans... i understand it like this: Do you think of what you're doing with your life (what decisions you make or break), so you won't do the same mistakes as he had (learn from his mistake

i was just thinking, maybe this 'dress' is a metaphore (SP) for something important? i mean, it is mentioned a few times in the album so maybe its not a literal 'dress'. dunno if it would make much sence but just figured it could...

Is it just me, or does MCR have alot of refrences to Drag queens and bisexuality in their lyrics?
I mean this line:
"Well don't I look pretty walking down the street.
In the best damn dress I own?"
- Seriously, somebody is obsessed...haha...
Anyhow, I love the whole record, even though a poor european kid like me has a hard time understanding what this crazy american dude is singing about, hehe :P
