Before I start my little ranting section here, let me just say that SOMEONE needs to go change those lyrics to thewrite words. I won't bother trying to re-write them because people have already done so in previous comments. Also, stwjester, even though your comment was a little lengthy, I still read every word. It was a really good observation and don't listen to whoever it was that said otherwise.

Right my two cents. Like many people have already mentioned, I really do believe it is about the whole '1000 bodies' scenario. In 'You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison' It explains that two people, obviously in a relationship, died in a gunfight. She went to heaven whereas he went to hell. I'm still really confussed and tryng to figure out the reason he went to hell in the first place, but anyway. He misses/loves her so much, he'd do anything to be with her again, so he makes a deal with the devil, stating that if he were to kill 1000 evil souls, and bring them to hell, he would be reunited with his love. Taking his chances, the man agrees and is sent back to Earth to do the job.

This is obviously saying what the guy is doing, killing souls day by day, sending him to hell, each one that he kills will ead him closer to the woman he loves. 'So deep and down we go' i think, is reffering to the souls going to hell.

He tries to get to the woman, who is obviously, in heaven. He falls out of grace because he can't get to her.

When Gerard screams 'I tried' over and over again, I think thats saying that the job was unfinnished. Either, he didn't kill the 1000 souls because it was too traumatizing, his concience getting the better of him, or, as i have heard from an interview, he kills 999 souls, and realizes the last he has to kill is himself, but I really don't know.

The Devil conned him, back stabbed him, lied to him, call it whatever you want, the Devil was lying to the guy all this time, he'd never see the woman ever again, no mattter how many souls he had killed for him. I think '2 shots to the back of the head' could be a mataphore, coz 1. How dan the Devil kill the guy i he;s already dead? and 2. Why would the Devil even use a gun to kill the guy? Anyway, I reckon it's a metaphore that he will spend eternity in hell.

I can't clean the blood off the sheets in the bed!! I love that line, that's like saying, for the rest of his life, for the rest of his eternity in hell, he has to live with what he did to all those people. The blood won't ever come of the sheets, coz it will always forever be in his mind, what he did, who he killed, etc. "We'll cry again/dance again" is saying he WILL see her again, which will hopefully lead to the next album, the next song, that will hopefully finish off the true ending to this song. It CAN'T just end like that! IT CAN'T!

That's what i thought, maybe i'm wrong, maybe i'm right, no one really knows what this song EXACTLY means, which makes it so fucking awesome. The riffs, Gerard's voice, Bob on drums, it all fits together so well. Fucking fantastic song! MCR TO THE END!!

I think that MAN, WOMAN, and THOUSAND CORPSES thing is like a twisted humty dumpty: The WOMAN HE loved sat on the wall, SHE took the plunge and THEY lost it all, and all the MAN'S prayers, and THE CORPSES OF A THOUSAND EVIL MEN couldn't ever bring them back together again. Maybe it's just a guideline to the songs, rather than the plot???

i think he just kills alot of people including his girlfriend.. and the whole "we'll love again and we'll laugh again" maybe he's just insane.. but when it says "and never again and never again they gave us two shots to the back of the head and we're all dead now" means that he died in prision and *never again* meaning he'll never be able to kill again

I just love the whole vibe to this song. it makes you wanna fucking kill someone just to have a real experience of the song. it sorta sounds like it could be on their previous cd. how you can get this whole dark vibe from it. i LOVE it.

i think "bury me in black" is the true ending.
you got this sad ending where everybody dies, but then you got the bonus sequel ending where the hero comes back to life and beats the crap out of the bad guys.

I think this song is totalli about how he tried to kill all those men but then he finally gives up because he realices that he can't bear the guilt that every life he takes from those people gives him..and then he says " I can't clean the blood off the sheets in my bed " as saying he can't forget everything and become someone else because the marks those murders left him are too strong..And then i think he just gives up and he lets the police get him cause he is tired of running away...when in you know what they do to guys like us in prison it says " well they're never gonna get me ..like a bullet through a flock of doves.." he gets tired of that and he goes to jail..and then he says he tried ..but that its eventually better off that way...that he'll laugh again..cry again..dance again...just like being human again...even if he's in jail he and he's kinda saying is better off this way..without her..that he might just spend the rest of his life in prison but he aint at least killing anyone


i totally love this song..its so beautiful...even if the lyrics aremorbid...there's such a human feeling to it..something really deep..and really catchy like when it says and we'll laugh again we'll love again...
and how he talks to her..he refers to her as babe thats hot....well i thinnk its a great way to end the album cuz i guess the battle for getting the chick back is over..and if he really did die...the next album doesnt necesarilly have to be about the same guy,..it would be def. boring..to just hear about that guy's story...well i hope im right...sorry if im not..

This song seems to me maybe like a serial killer...maybe he rapes girls in bed or something (blood on his sheets)...At first I thought The first verse could be about groupies but now it seems like he gains the girls trust and then does whatever to her

i do not think this song is about serial killers like i did at first, i think it might be when Gerard was depressed and was going to commit suicide and he is saying how fame isn't everything and is explaning his life as a rock star with some metaphors....you can tell this on the other I Never Told You What I Did For A Living the original one before his music manager chaged the words to make it fit and sound better

This is pretty much my favorite song by them. I am a fanatic believe me and I've been one since before 3 cheers. So it would take quite a lot for this to be my favorite song by them.

Wow. This song is so beautiful... I love it. What I think it means might be totally different but here's my opinion;
He's dating a girl and he doesn't tell her that he kills for living (Maybe he gets paid? I don't know I just think he's sick.) Anyway I think he tries really hard to keep it all inside but he can't help but forget that he's lying and it's really painful for him to kill those people... So they kill themselves and he thinks it's better.
Then again I can be completely wrong.. I've seen many different perspectives on this board.

I think this is about a man who goes around and murders select victims. With the lines "Another night and I'll see you/One other night and I'll be you/Some other way to continue to hide my face." To me it seemed to be about the man's struggle to continue hiding and killing people and then living their lives for a short while. And in the man's opinion he's doing them a favor in a way and feels that "It's better off this way... And we'll love again and we'll laugh again/We'll try again and we'll dance again/And it's better off this way/So much better off this way." I'm guessing the victims he's choosing lead lives without anyone close to them so he's taking their lives and doing what he can in the short amount of time to make "their" lives better. And in the end of the song when he is shot and he says "We're all dead now" he's referring to the fact that all of the people he has killed are all really, truly dying at that moment. When he himself is killed all the people whose lives he has taken over are ending. Or it ties in with the story about the man and Satan and all that jazz. It's about the guy killing all of the people that he had to but I'm still trying to figure out how it's supposed to end. "And we're all dead now" this line makes me think that maybe after he killed all 1000 people he found his girlfriend but she ended up being in Hell with him? I'm not sure if someone was supposed to have killed her or the Devil just played a trick on the guy and ended up having both of them dead.

I think this song is about being addicted to something

in this case, he's addicted to killing people
and he knows that it's wrong, and tries to stop (all that "i tried but i lied" stuff)
but no matter what he does, he can't forget it ("a stain that never comes off the sheets" & "the kind of dirty where the water never cleans off the clothes" & "i cant clean the blood off the sheets in my bed")
and it eventually defeats him and he's all hopeless ("and we're all dead now")

its a kinda interesting way to end the album cause up until this song theres quite a bit of hope, then all
then all of a sudden it's like. bam. defeated.

it makes the album feel like it's about hopelessness and feeling defeated more than anything (well, to me at least...)
